**************
I set it up, as if the syndication deal spilt the show in 2 parts. I count Seasons 6 & 7 as just one season.

In the first series, only Belding, Tommy and Lindsay are in every season. However in the second series, Belding, Eric, Nicky, Katie, Maria and Screech are in every season.

So which do you like better and which would you prefer to go into syndication, if there could only be one?

I prefer Series 1 better. One main reason was Megan Jones. I've always been attracted to her. Plus, comically, I like Bobby Wilson.

LOL, I didn't even know they had a character named "Maria Lopez"!

I pick Series 2 (Seasons 4-6). Aside from Tom Wade Huntington, I like every single cast member from those last 78 episodes, maybe because the cast changes were less frequent. I mentioned in the past how much I hate the first season, so that brings Series 1 down for me.

I don't know if I'll feel differently once I have the entire series on DVD. Right now, I've seen more of Series 1. I quit watching the show during it's fifth season. And I saw the series finale, and I didn't like Tom Wade Hunnington. I figure the second series would be the more popular one, since it had less cast changes, but I prefer the early years.

My favorite characters include: Weasel Wyzell, Tommy De Luca, Megan Jones, Brian Keller and Bobby Wilson. As you can see, they all exsist in the first series. Of course it's been a while since I've seen an episode from 4-6, but I remember liking Nicky Farina, he reminded me of Rider Strong.

Seasons 2 through 6 stick out the best for me, I remeber quite a few episodes from those years because I'd record the whole TNBC lineup occasionally.

After watching the season 2 dvd, I grew to like Bobby. I was sort of indifferent to that whole cast when it originally aired but I can see the appeal of his character. Eric, Ryan and Maria are all favorites of mine, so obviously I'm more into Series 2. Maybe part of it was that by that time it no longer seemed like they were trying to make copies of Zack, Slater, Kelly, Lisa, etc.

On the E! True Hollywood Story, Dennis Haskins seemed upset about the last season of "The New Class". He said the producers took certain liberties with the Belding and Screech characters. Since I didn't watch that season, do you know of any examples of that?

Actually both Dustin Diamond and Dennis Haskins didn't seem too enthused about talking about "The New Class".

That's the thing, I don't remember season 7 like I do the others, but to be honest, any time it was a Screech/Belding scene that didn't involve one of the students, I turned the volume down and waited for it to go to the next scene. That's how much I hated both (but especially Screech) by that time. I can't really think of any specific changes other than they were just doing more of that bumbling, slapstick type of stuff that just wasn't funny, only irritating.

I've been watching my season 2 DVD for the past couple days. That's why I'm in the mood to talk about the series so much. Right now, I have "Goodbye Bayside, Part 2" on in the background. I read on IMDB that they were only going to make two seasons. But were surprised with it's success and kept on bringing it back. I wonder if that's why the finale to season 2 was called "Goodbye Bayside" and why Zack, Slater and Lisa guest starred, trying to make the big finale.

What gets me about Belding is that he has a wife and son, and yet he spends all his time with the students. Even when they go on trips (Palisades Hills, Screech's Uncle's Ranch, etc.) he doesn't bring his family along.

I don't know if you remember the episode, but they finally had Mrs. Belding on one of the season 3 episodes of the New Class. I just finished watching the entire set last week, now I'm waiting for season 4 next month. Hopefully you'll be getting both sets sooner than later.

I love the new class and have watched it for year. But i never looked at as 2 series, but now that you point that out it is like 2 diffrent shows. I love the 1st 3 season because i loved Tommy & Lindsay. I always wished they could have been in the 4th season because after they left the show was not the same anymore. The hole feel and look of the show was not the same. so with that said I love series 1.

If i could have my had it my way i would have had a season with this as the cast. these are all my fav. charcters and i think would have made a great cast:

Jonathan Angel as Tommy Deluca
Natalia Cigliuti as Lindsay Warner
Sarah Lancaster as Rachel Meyers
Richard Lee Jackson as Ryan Parker
Samantha Becker as Maria Lopez
Ben Gould as Nicky Farina
and Dustin Diamond and Dennis Haskins

also I hate Rachel Meyers in season 4...because she just wasn't the same Rachel they made her chararter alot like Lindsay (the lead girl)

The season seven thing that Haskins was referring to was the fact that the producers turned Belding and Screech into complete idiots. Neither could function properly in reality. Screech would have never survived on his own and Belding couldn't and wouldn't have been a principal. It was complete physical, exaggerated comedy that dismissed the years leading up to it. It was horribly unfunny.

My favorite was the first series, by the way. By far. Season three, to me, was as good as any original season.

When I first watched the show, I was surprised when Tommy D and Lindsey left after three seasons. However, looking back, they were in 10th grade in season 1. So in the third season, they were seniors. I don't know if it was ever said that they were seniors, just by doing the math, you realize. That's why I split the show in two parts. Season three was the end of the "original" new class.

I have always looked at The New Class like this (what grade every kid was in every season and why the kids left after each season and why the show lasted for 7 years):

Season 1:
Scott, Weasel and Vicki are (seniors)
Megan is in (11th Grade)
Tommy, Lindsay and are in (10th Grade)

Season 2:
Megan, Brian and Bobby are (seniors)
Tommy, Lindsay are in (11th Grade)
Rachel is in (10th grade)

Season 3 (The Best Season!!!)
Tommy, Lindsay and R.J are (seniors)
Rachel is in (11th Grade)
Ryan is in (10 Grade)
Maria is in (9th Grade)

Season 4
Rachel is a (senior)
Ryan is in (11th Grade)
Maria, Eric, Nicky and Kaite are in (10th grade)

Season 5
Ryan is a (senior)
All the other kids are in (11th grade)

Season 6/7 (same year split into two seasons)
All the kids were (seniors)

As for the kids that only lasted one season, i just say that they were in thier serion year in that season! (may or may not be ture)
Scott Erickson
Weasel Wyzell
Vicki Needleman
Brian Keller
Bobby Wilson
R.J. Collins

Also I love how you look at the show as being 2 different series. I think that is a great way and I see it now!!! Because it's true, you have The "Orginal New Class" with Tommy and Lindsay and then "The New Class 2" with Maria, Nicky, Eric and Kaite!!! After season 3 the show was a completly different show...(I think)

cool

I always looked at it like this:

(of course nothing is official, either one of us could be right)

Season 1: 1993-94
Scott Erickson (10th grade)
Weasel Wyzell (10th grade)
Tommy De Luca (10th Grade)
Lindsay Warner (10th grade)
Megan Jones (10th grade)
Vicki Needleman (10th grade)

Season 2: 1994-95
Tommy De Luca (11th grade)
Lindsay Warner (11th grade)
Megan Jones (11th grade)
Bobby Wilson (11th grade)
Rachel Meyers (10th grade)
Brian Keller (10th grade)

Season 3: 1995-96
Tommy De Luca (12th grade)
Lindsay Warner (12th grade)
Rachel Meyers (11th grade)
Ryan Parker (10th grade)
R.J. Collins (10th grade)
Maria Lopez (9th grade)

Season 4: 1996-97
Rachel Meyers (12th grade)
Ryan Parker (11th grade)
Maria Lopez (10th grade)
Eric Little (10th grade)
Nicky Farina (10th grade)
Katie Peterson (10th grade)

Season 5: 1997-98
Ryan Parker (12th grade)
Maria Lopez (11th grade)
Eric Little (11th grade)
Nicky Farina (11th grade)
Katie Peterson (11th grade)
Liz Miller (11th grade)

Season 6: 1998-00
Maria Lopez (12th grade)
Eric Little (12th grade)
Nicky Farina (12th grade)
Katie Peterson (12th grade)
Liz Miller (12th grade)
Tony Dillon (12th grade)

That way the whole gang start off as 10th graders and in the final season, the gang are all in 12th grade. For the 1 season characters, it's not as important, what grade they're in. Such as R.J. I had a hard time placing a grade for him. And Vicki, could have been an 11th or 12th grader, because in real life, she was the oldest of the six. I made Bobby in the 11th grade, because he gave me the impression that he was in the same grade as Megan. example "I've been asking her out since the 7th grade." Made it sound like they were in the 7th grade together.

That's cool

But i always say that the season a charcter leaves, that they are in 12th grade like Megan in season 2 was a senoir and so on because that explames why they are not in the next season...but you can always say they witched school or something the next season. But like you say nothing is official, either one of us could be right.

Also great topic!!

That's the thing that ticked me off about the show. I didn't mind the cast changes as much as the fact that most of the characters never got an explanation for where they went. I mean to my knowledge only Tommy, Lindsay, Rachel and Ryan were mentioned. Would it be so hard to have one of the characters say "I miss Bobby ever since he moved away." ? ;)

I know. I really hated that and I think the only reason those 4 were talked about when they left was because they were on the show for a longe time and that would have not been cool if the next season there was no mention of them.

Also TvAdam and any others who would be in your ideal cast/class?

For me it's:
Tommy Deluca
Lindsay Warner
Rachel Meyers
Ryan Parker
Maria Lopez
Nicky Farina
Screech
and Mr. Belding

My ideal cast would be:

Brian Keller (played by Christian Oliver)
Bobby Wilson (played by Spankee Rodgers)
Tommy De Luca (played by Jonathan Angel)
Lindsay Warner (played by Natalia Cigliutti)
Megan Jones (played by Bianca Lawson)
Rachel Meyers (played by Sarah Lancaster)

I picked one character at a time. It wasn't until I finished that I realized it was identical to the second season. :)

Here's why I picked who I picked.

Brian Keller - I just thought he was a funny, nice guy. Plus I liked his relationship with Rachel.

Bobby Wilson - I liked Weasel a lot, but with Screech there, there's no need for the two white nerds with curly brown hair. Next to Weasel, I liked Bobby (mainly because I didn't like R.J. or Eric). Bobby was the funniest in that silly guy role. Plus, I liked his thing with Megan.

Tommy De Luca - I didn't like him in the first season, but in seasons 2 & 3, I thought he was good. It's nice to have a tough guy in the group.

Lindsay Warner - I chose her mainly because I chose Tommy. It was between Lindsay and Katie, but Lindsay won out. She wasn't very good in the first season, and she was never a great actress on the show. But she definately improved.

Megan Jones - The one girl on TV I have developed a crush on in recent years.

Rachel Meyers - You've got the nice girl, the smart girl and now the fashionably beautiful girl. The main reason I chose her was because of her relationship with Brian.

I'll try a second assortment:

Ryan Parker - my second favorite lead male.
Bobby Wilson - he's still my favorite sidekick.
Nicky Farina - I only liked him when Ryan was there.
Katie Peterson - she was fine on the show.
Megan Jones - she's still my favorite female on the show.
Rachel Meyers - I didn't like Maria, Vicki or Liz, so I chose her again.

TommyD

That's great!

Here's why i picked who i picked:

Tommy Deluca- because I have always loved Tommy D in all 3 season Just because he was tough but at the same time very lovable and guffy.

Lindsay Warner- I didn't really care for her acting in the 1st two season but I think she really came around in the 3rd season and i have always loved Natalia Cigliuti as an actress and the stuff she did after the new class and I think she makes a great famle lead and I couldn't have a show with Tommy and not Lindsay.

Rachel Meyers- I chose Rachel because I just love her. She is so fashionably, beautiful, and funny all at the same time.

Ryan Parker- Because you always have to have that guy that's going to get you in to cazy situations and stuff.

Maria Lopez- But i would want the early Maria because i thought she was alot of fun and she was so sasy and was not aferaid to snap on you.

Nicky Farina- because i love his and Ryan realtionship and the hole spetbrother thing.

I'll try a second assortment also:

Tommy Deluca- I just love Tommy.
Lindsay Warner- Can't have Tommy without Lindsay.
Brian Keller- Great lead guy.
Bobby Wilson- Was funny and silly.
Vicki Needleman- I really liked Vicki and i think was one of the best things about season one of TNC.
Megan Jones- I loved her atituded about everything.

I didn't really care for Katie and Liz, they were cool but i would want to see them again.

also i don't think i would like to see Megan and Katie on the same cast just because they are alot of like and want to be the best at everything and get good grade.

Hey how about this, what to you (TvAdam and anyothers) would be the worst cast ever and why?

Here's my pick for the worst to cast ever:

Set one
Scott Erickson
Ryan Parker
Brian Keller
Megan Jones
Katie Peterson
Vicki Needleman

For my fist cast i don't think it would work because everyone is so so simler. the Scott, Ryan and Brian are all to much alike and are like Zack and we could have a show with all Zacks that would be crazy. For the girl they are all in a way alike because they are all neurotic and stuff like Jessie. So a show with all Zacks and Jessies would not be good.

My pick for the worst cast:

Scott Erickson - Tried too hard to be like Zack, yet wasn't a good actor.
Eric Little - I couldn't stand him or his singing.
Tony Dillon - Bad acting, lame character.
Maria Lopez - I was never a big Maria fan. And of course she lasts seasons 3-6.
Liz Miller - I never liked her either. She was cute, but so what?
Vicki Needleman - She actually wasn't that bad. I just think more than one season of her, would have been too much.

TVAdam and others, speaking of not liking poeple who are the kids from The New Class you don't like or never got into?

For Me it's:

Scott- Zack wannabe.
Eric- Also hate him and his singing.
R.J- liked him sometime...but most of the time i didn't.
Katie- Just didn't like her.
Liz- Just didn't like her.
Tony- To much like Tommy was in the 3rd season: Guffy, Silly and loveble and i hated that. There is only one Tommy D!!

Everyone else that was on the show I liked.

 That's alright. Still, that's why I'm most eager for the season 4 dvd, because that's when Eric joins the cast. That's it. If he didn't sing, I'd probably like him better. Of course it's been a while since I've seen an episode with Eric. I know I'd still dislike his singing, but his character might not be as bad, this second time around.

I will give him some credit. At least he wasn't a bad actor (like Tom Wade Hunnington and Robert Sutherland Telfer).

I will admit watching it now, I can see how he can be irritating when he sings. He overdoes it with all the arm and neck movements when he sings. You can tell he grew up watching alot of Boyz II Men videos. It'd be better if he sang without all the motions.

Doing the guys section of this was actually harder than I thought it would be.

The Guys:

2. Ryan Parker (Seasons 3-5)
3. Nicky Farina (Seasons 4-6)
4. Bobby Wilson (Season 2)
5. Eric Little (Seasons 4-6)
6. R.J. Collins (Season 3)
7.Tommy De Luca (Seasons 1-3)
8. Weasel Wyzell (Season 1)
9. Scott Erickson (Season 1)
Never saw season 6 so Tony Dillon does not make the list yet.

The Girls:
1. Megan Jones (Seasons 1-2)
2. Rachel Meyers (Seasons 2-4)
3. Katie Peterson (Seasons 4-6)
4. Maria Lopez (Seasons 4-6)
5. Lindsay Warner (Seasons 1-3)
6. Vicki Needleman (Season 1)
Only saw a few episodes of season 5 so Liz Miller also doesn't make the list yet. Will add her at the end of the week when I've watched the DVDs.

After watching season three, I noticed how dumb they made Tommy D. He also seemed lonely. I mean he couldn't keep any guy friends. Scott, Weasel, Brian, Bobby, Ryan and R.J. all came and went during Tommy's stay on the show. I thought about this during the Love Bugs episode. Tommy went into Lindsay's room alone and listened to their conversation, alone. Whereas Ryan had R.J. througout the whole ordeal.

Interesting observation.

Here is my updated list for the girls, I've changed it a bit and added Liz:

The Girls:
1. Megan Jones (Seasons 1-2)
2. Katie Peterson (Seasons 4-6)
3. Maria Lopez (Seasons 4-6)
4. Rachel Meyers (Seasons 2-4)
5. Lindsay Warner (Seasons 1-3)
6. Liz Miller (Seasons 5-6)
7. Vicki Needleman (Season 1)

I didn't miss Rachel as much as I thought I would, and watching the 5th season I liked the characters of Katie and Maria more. Thus, Rachel moves down the list. I also agreed with you about Liz, although she was an all right character, there wasn't much there, and so I placed her near the end.

Watching the 5th season also changed my opinion of the guys, and so that list is changing as well:

The Guys:
1. Ryan Parker (Seasons 3-5)
2. Brian Keller (Season 2)
3. Eric Little (Seasons 4-6)
4. Nicky Farina (Seasons 4-6)
5. Bobby Wilson (Season 2)
6. R.J. Collins (Season 3)
7.Tommy De Luca (Seasons 1-3)
8. Weasel Wyzell (Season 1)
9. Scott Erickson (Season 1)

I liked Ryan much more this season so he moved to the top. Eric also was good this season, and although I don't like his singing either, he moved up. RJ and Tommy might switch places when I watch the earlier episodes again. I'm not sure what my reasoning was for putting them like that.

After viewing all three seasons of "Series 1," I am sure that that is my favorite of the two "Series." However, I have more respect for the second" series. Like Eric and Maria I remember hating. Now I don't hate them anymore.

Also I've notice that season 3 is a combination of both series. It has Tommy and Lindsay from series 1. It has Ryan and Maria from series 2. It has Rachel, who's in both series. So it seems like a mixture of the two. Although I like the season, I don't think it's the best group the show had. Of series 1, the best group was the season two cast. Of series 2, the best cast was the season 4 cast. Of course that's my opinion.

Right now I like "series 2" the most but that may be because I haven't rewatched any seasons since they came out.
For some reason I have little memory of the third season episodes even though that was only in June. But I do agree with you that the best casts in each "series" are seasons 2 and 4.

I'm just glad that you guys don't dislike Eric and Maria like you used to.

Just for fun, I looked up the new class cast member's birthdays. Here's the list. The only one I couldn't find was Spankee Rodgers.

(In Order of Birth)
Dennis Haskins (born: November 18, 1950)
Christian Oliver (born: March 3, 1972)
Bonnie Russavage (born: July 10, 1976)
Dustin Diamond (born: January 7, 1977)
Jonathan Angel (born: April 25, 1977)
Salim Grant (born: May 28, 1977)
Anthony Harrell (born: May 31, 1977)
Robert Sutherland Telfer (born: July 31, 1977)
Tom Wade Huntington (born: September 2, 1977)
Natalia Cigliuti (born: September 6, 1978)
Bianca Lawson (born: March 20, 1979)
Richard Lee Jackson (born: May 29, 1979)
Isaac Lidsky (born: July 30, 1979)
Samantha Becker (born: October 25, 1979)
Sarah Lancaster (born: February 12, 1980)
Ben Gould (born: October 25, 1980)
Lindsey McKeon (born: March 11, 1982)
Ashley Ca***na (born: February 15, 1983)

It's interesting to see that Christian Oliver (Brian Keller) is older than Screech! Of the cast, I'm only older than Lindsey McKeon and Ashley Ca***na. Also Ben Gould and Samantha Becker had the same birthday, just different years.

Tommy moved up and Bobby moved down. Bobby used to be a favorite of yours.

I've been watching the show in order, every night. Weasel is the only character from season one that I missed. So I knew I had to move him up some. I still like Bobby as much as I did before. However, in watching the dvds every night, Tommy D. has become my favorite. Also it just hit me that Ryan is not in the final season. I always knew it, but it finally sunk in and I'm gonna miss him when I get the dvd. So I figured I should move him up on the list. R.J. and Tony are still the last two, though. Notice, Eric moved up a slot. Brian is still my favorite lead character.

Here is something I thought of. At the start of season 3, wouldn't Maria have been in 10th grade because they said she was a Valley transfer along with Ryan and R.J.? Yet she was on the show through season 6, four seasons. Another contitnuity hole in terms of deaging a year at some point.

That has bugged me so much. Also, since they aired the 6th season as two different seasons, that made her on the show for five seasons (I go by it as just the one season). Maybe Valley is like the school on "Boy Meets World" where it's 7th through 12th. If that was the case, it would help out alot.

Also, Tommy D. and Lindsay were in 10th grade in season 1. In season 3, they should have been seniors. Yet in the 4th season premiere, everyone was shocked that Lindsay didn't come back to Bayside. Ryan said "You mean Lindsay's not coming back to Bayside!?!"

Tommy moved to Texas, so I guess they could have been shocked that he moved away, not that he's not at Bayside anymore. I don't know why they couldn't have just explained that Tommy and Lindsay graduated.

Thinking about all the cast changes, I realized something. I'd hate to be one of the gang in "The New Class." I mean, if I left, they would replace me with someone else and not even remember me. Seeing that I'm kind of weird in real life, if I were one of the gang, I would never date anyone in the gang (notice Weasel, Bobby, R.J., and Eric never dated anyone in the group). Also, I'd have the principal and his wacky assistant following me everywhere I'd go.

Yeah, I'd hate to be one of "The New Class." ;)

But then you'd be missing out on trips to space camp, cruises, even France. We never did anything like that at my high school.
