What are some of the worst [not very common] mispelled words you have ever seen? (Please don't mention names if it's from Sitcomsonline. ;))

The PRESIDENT of a company I used to work for would spell, "what" as "wat" and never get any of the "there, their or they're" right in context. Basically, everything was spelled phonetically - it would take us literally hours to try to make out what he wanted to say properly. When challenged about how someone could become the president of a Fortune 500 company when he couldn't spell "cat", he just said, "That's what I have a secretary for".

I honestly don't know what it was! I know he didn't have a college eduation, but hey - he should still be able to spell better than that. I'm sure he would have openly told us if he had a learning disability. I think he was just super lazy!

I agree with that! I hate when people do that, but most of the time that is on purpose! ugh.

Basically any bad spelling bothers me. I guess because I've always been a fairly good speller, so I always seem to notice spelling mistakes.

Honestly - you keep that up for very long, you'll forget how to spell properly! With all the text messaging and people relying on spell check on their computers, we're going to end up with a generation of people who can't spell! It's scary. I'm amazed sometimes.

Do you know that there really isn't a word, "snuck"? It was always sneaked for the past tense. People got lazy and started the snuck crap and it finally was added the to (U.S.) dictionary officially a few years ago! I think its still "sneaked" in the Oxford version. It's like you'll also find "ain't" in the dictionary now. The whole language is going to ratsh*t!

I have ALWAYS said "snuck," even as a little kid. I never heard it as "sneaked" until a few years ago.

I know! I think most younger Americans have always said it. I used to yell at the t.v. when I'd hear Peter Jennings (Canadian) say it because he should have known better! (I'm not saying Canadians are better spellers or speakers, just we follow the British versions more still). If you use a word often enough, it becomes mainstream. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see a definition of "crashed" in the dictionary now as "slept". Slang just seems more and more acceptable.

I either won't respond at all to those posts or go nuts on them (depending on my mood)! I didn't realize the rules of SO when I first came back, and my first posts were attacks on the spelling of one of the members! It just made them sound like a total moron though.

Their was a person here once who would correct everybody's spelling errors and insulted them while he did it and it resulted in a big fight. I think a lot of the spelling errors here is because people type fast and never proofread what they type. I know thats happened to me.

 I know it happens to me a lot. I might not notice it for a bit and it'll be while I'm rereading other posts. You'll see my edits periodically with the reason being, "Whoops - typo!" or something like that. I cringe when I spot them!

I can see the odd spelling or grammatical error, but this particular post was asking for advice, but at the same time, insulting the people who posted. It was just very odd (more ignorant I guess) than anything that got me turned off.

That drives me crazy too. I also go nuts when people use "your" as the contraction for "you are" (you're) or get their, there, and they're mixed up. That's just laziness, in my opinion. My kids at school learned very quickly not to let me catch them making those mistakes! :D

I know not everyone is a great speller, but is it really so hard to keep a dictionary or thesaurus nearby? They have electronic and on-line dictionaries now. There really is no excuse for poor spelling these days. My 8th grade English teacher always told us, "If you're not sure what a word means or how to spell or pronounce it, don't bother using it until you've learned to use it properly."

that's not an error, it's intentional.

In my building the superintendent AKA "the super" posted a note telling all residents to place the recycling materials in the basement.

He signed it - the "supper."

It cracks me up every time I see it.

Some people, sadly, think that's really how those words are spelled. :(

Oh! I know! I have seen so many spelling and gammar errors all over the web! That bugs me! But I am beginning to believe that it is kind of a psychological thing.(or birth defect?) What I am trying to say is that my Mom who is an intelligent person cannot spell to save herself! Neither can my college graduate niece. But I have to confess that bad spelling and bad grammar are 2 of my major pet peeves! I do realize though that it is very difficult for some people! For example I have always been very deficient in Math. So I can understand other's problems with spelling and grammar. But on a social level it can be very embarrassing not to speak correctly.

You should write in under it, "Will Do!", Regards, Dinner (or Lunch, Breakfast, etc.) ;)

One of the grammar errors here in Michigan(and all over) that I hear the most are the misuse of pronouns. Example;
"Her and I went to the store". That makes me cringe! I hear that all the time! I would say that that is the most common thing around here!

Exactly!!! Sometimes, in order to confirm the spelling of a word, I'll open up "Word", copy and paste the word from here, then run a quick spellcheck and if necessary, change, copy and paste back on. It definitely would be handy to have available right here, but it's not all that tough to toggle between windows for the sake of sounding like you have at least an average I.Q.! ;)

i get a kick out of people using the word I's, ie "John and I's plan." the word is MY! that's just like saying "this is I's cat" or "i can't find I's shoes". it's almost like talking about your self in third person. I's.

WHAT???????????????????????? I'VE NEVER HEARD ANYONE SPEAK LIKE THAT!!! OMG!

I mean - come on! Where would you even hear that to learn to speak that way? Somebody HAS to be going out of their way to speak like a friggin' idiot on that one! I can see hesitating on when to use "me" and "I", but to say I as possessive? WTF?????

If it's on social media, typos don't bother me, because they are likely just THAT....typos. People type fast, fingers hit the wrong keys, plus English is a sloppy language when it comes to spelling.

But some interesting ones that stand out are.... SO MANY PEOPLE spell Chick Fil A as Chic Fil A, I'm guilty of that, I could have sworn that's what it was. Dilemna instead of dilemma, seperate instead of separate, I could have sworn seperate was the verb form and separate was the adjective

One mistake that drives me insane: when people want to write "would've" (for would have), instead we get "would of." AAAAAARRRGHHHH
