View Full Version : Are you still waiting for your ultimate favorite to be released on dvd?
vashti1999 06-07-2005, 04:55 PM I know Sasette is happy to have Lois and Clark, and TVAdam was eager for NewsRadio. How many are still waiting for their number one most wanted show to be released?
For me, I wouldn't say Good Times is my all-time favorite above everything else, but it's a show I grew up watching and it was always a show that was special to me for some reason. I remember a couple of years ago when I saw on a website that a Good Times Season One dvd was coming out, I jumped out of my seat with excitement. I was so happy about being able to own those episodes and watch as often as I wanted.
A lot of my all time favorites have come out: the Honeymooners, Three's Company, I Love Lucy, and A Different World is coming out soon. If I had to pick one show at this point I'll be the most excited about, it would probably be Fame. There's many others that I'm looking forward to, but the day I hear that Fame Season One will be released is a day I'll be very, very happy.
So the question is what ONE show you're dying to see released on dvd, if it hasn't come out already? (Season twos of shows like Diff'rent Strokes or Who's The Boss don't count).
Dean Winchester 06-07-2005, 04:58 PM it's not my absolute all-time favorite show.... but I am definately holding onto the hope that one day we're going to see Facts Of Life out on DVD. I can just see Sony releasing seasons 1 and 2 together. It's not my #1 show, but it is definately my favorite show not either on DVD or currently airing in syndication (unless you live in Illinois) and I cannot wait until Sony finally gets off their butt and announces it.
Even though I actuall ylike Roseanne more than FOL (FOL is definately in my all time top 5 tho), I am not as excited over that coming out on DVD as I would be over Facts, because Roseanne is so commonplace on television
Pavan 06-07-2005, 05:36 PM Mostly all of my all-time favorites are out. I'm still waiting for Perfect Strangers, Small Wonder, 8 Simple Rules, Mr. Belvedere, One Day at a Time, Hooperman, the Three's Co spinoffs, among others. But since you said ONE ... I will choose Perfect Strangers.
vhshunter 06-07-2005, 05:47 PM Six Million Dollar Man
Bionic Woman
One Day At A Time
barwars 06-07-2005, 05:57 PM My three most favorite series of all time (Cheers, Frasier, and Seinfeld) have all been released on DVD, and are just about half way done by now.
But, if I were to choose my most anticipated release would have to be "The Tortellis - The Complete Series"
A complete season set of SNL would be a close #2.
PZelda 06-07-2005, 05:58 PM MAMA'S FAMILY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Felix Na Vi Da 06-07-2005, 07:27 PM My very favourite show that I've been waiting for is Brimstone that was a shortlived show on Fox of course that was about Ezekiel Stone who made a deal with the devil to track down 113 escaped souls from hell in return for a second chance at life on earth. I hope and pray one day WB releases it.
Also I don't understand the holdup with The Real Ghostbusters, as of now basically every big 80s cartoon has come out or will be coming out and still nothing on the rader of this.
MariposaLKB 06-07-2005, 08:21 PM Pav, I would also like to see Perfect Strangers--but the ultimate for me would be uncut episodes of Chico and the Man!
vashti1999 06-07-2005, 08:30 PM the ultimate for me would be uncut episodes of Chico and the Man!
You're one who'll probably get what you want, since Chico is supposed to be coming out soon and Warner is usually good about presenting things intact.
Adamantium 06-07-2005, 08:31 PM I had 5 shows that are a must for me to have on DVD. They are (in order):
1. NewsRadio
2. Taxi
3. Wings
4. Ellen
5. Boy Meets World
All but Wings have released some seasons. NewsRadio is my all-time favorite show and the show I wanted the most of all the others. Now that it's out, I'm really awaiting the news of "Wings" coming to DVD. And of course, the remainder of the other series.
The Odd Couple is # 6 on my list and Chico and the Man is # 8 (King of Queens is # 7, but that series is already being released).
Living In a '70's Dream 06-07-2005, 08:37 PM A lot of my favorite programs have been released on DVD, but I would be thrilled if Police Woman was released on DVD (I always loved that show) :)
L&OFan4Eva 06-07-2005, 09:29 PM Just one? lol How hard! I'll have to say Wonder Years, with Blossom, The Facts of Life, and I'll Fly Away close enough.
TV DVD Fan 06-07-2005, 09:49 PM my favorites have all been released except for-
facts of life
family ties
welcome back, kotter
WKRP
odd couple
perfect strangers
3s a crowd
the ropers
the addams family
get smart
step by step
wings
and thats basically it. golden palace would be nice too though, although ive never seen it (nor have i seen 3s a crowd or the ropers but if they're spinoffs of 3s company, i love 'em!!!!!!!!!!!)
pat
#1 would probably be The Facts of Life, but there are many others I'd like to see including Gimme a Break, The Hogan Family, Mr. Belvedere, Webster, Silver Spoons, Family Ties, The Courtship of Eddie's Father, and Please Don't Eat the Daisies.
I really just want to see more seasons of shows like Happy Days and Diff'rent Strokes released at a more rapid rate. Atleast one season every six months.
dlemond 06-07-2005, 11:16 PM My ultimate is WKRP in Cincinnati.
And with the music rights issues, I'm not holding my breath.
With that uphill battle it really makes it the ultimate release if they could get clearance for all the music.
Brian Damage 06-07-2005, 11:23 PM The Odd Couple
more Diff'rent Strokes
The Facts of Life
dawsongirl 06-08-2005, 01:30 AM I'm not sure what my ultimate series would be. But I have gotten lucky so far this year. Lois and Clark, the Jack Webb trio, etc. I guess the one I'd like to see more than anything is Route 66, but I think I'll be dead before that happens.
treky 06-08-2005, 03:10 AM I'm waiting for season 1 of "The Beverlly Hillbillies" in sept. Even though it's just three-quarters of the season  I can't wait to see the episodes unedited and uncut! And the extras sound great!
Also, I hope the rumors are true about "The Odd Couple" and "Get Smart" coming to DVD!
~*Emma*~ 06-08-2005, 03:23 AM I'm waiting for Family Ties :bored:
Ant-Lox 06-08-2005, 02:01 PM All My Fav's Are Out...Except Becker....Thats the one I'm really waiting for..
troopoleon8897 06-08-2005, 05:43 PM My Top 3 Fav Shows Along with Many Of My Other faves have already been released or announced (Roseanne, TCS, Full House, Ellen, 3's Company, Cheers, TKoQ, Married..With Children, Seinfeld, Gilligan's Island, SBTB, BMW, HI, TGG.) So I Gonna Have to Say Its Between Mama's family and The Drew Carey Show And I kno It would make more sense to pick mama's family because its barely shown anymore and i haven't seen all the episodes but i truely love TDCS so ill have to pick that.
Joker85 06-08-2005, 06:38 PM hmm, it would be hard to pick just one. Either Mama's Family or Empty Nest would be great! I would also love Birds of Prey: The Complete Series and the 1960s Batman show. But out of all of those, if I could just pick one, I'd probably pick the 60s Batman.
Number 9 Dream 06-08-2005, 08:26 PM 8 simple rules and the Wonder Years for sure
One of my favorite shows will be coming out in August. That's Adam-12.
The other show that I really want to have on DVD is The Love Boat.
I'd also love to see Trapper John MD released sometime as well.

Ant-Lox 06-09-2005, 09:24 AM hmm, it would be hard to pick just one. Either Mama's Family or Empty Nest would be great! I would also love Birds of Prey: The Complete Series and the 1960s Batman show. But out of all of those, if I could just pick one, I'd probably pick the 60s Batman.
wow....Empty Nest..i completly forgot how much i loved that show...
Superstar 06-09-2005, 01:09 PM 2 of my fave shows haven't been released yet:
Sabrina, the Teenage Witch
That's So Raven (a season set, not a freaking 4 episode disc)
dawsongirl 06-09-2005, 09:17 PM New Dick Van Dyke Show
That would be cool. But I just want season 3.
If I read that Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman: The First 35 Episodes was being released, I'd scrap every cent I could to go buy it, no matter how much it would cost!
JethroSimpson 06-11-2005, 06:09 PM Jointly- Silver Spoons, Facts of Life, Wonder Years
Dean Winchester 06-11-2005, 06:53 PM Jointly- Silver Spoons, Facts of Life, Wonder Years
there might be a very good chance we'll see the first two this year :)
Wonder Years, I've heard that Fox is working on that one, but there's so many music rights to be cleared
treky 06-11-2005, 08:37 PM I have a lot of favorites I want to see on DVD.

ther's a rumor that "The Odd Couple" will be released soon, and, if you have a VCR, the first and the last episodes of "The Fugitive" are avalible on VHS and have been for years. The tapes aren't being made anymore, but last time I checked, some stores were still selling it.
Nighthawk76 06-11-2005, 09:08 PM I would love to see Square Pegs on DVD. That would be a must for me. The first season of Charles In Charge (with the Pembrokes) would be nice too.
Dean Winchester 06-11-2005, 09:12 PM I was surprised they never released Square Pegs on DVD while Sex And The City was on to capitalize on Sarah Jessica Parker's popularity on that show.
Kellibean 06-11-2005, 09:31 PM Mama's Family
Alice
Eight is Enough
Facts of Life
PrettyinPink55 06-12-2005, 02:27 AM I am waiting for The Facts of Life, and The Wonder Years to be released! :D
robby76 06-12-2005, 07:55 AM The Edison Twins, Eight Is Enough and Small Wonder.
These are the 3 that would keep me happy, but they all seem to be quiet on the news front!
Oh and Seasons 3 and 4 of Punky Brewster... is no news good news?
Felix Na Vi Da 06-12-2005, 03:49 PM The Edison Twins, Eight Is Enough and Small Wonder.
I can't believe someone else remembers Edison Twins? I loved this show when I was younger. I wish I had taped it because I haven't seen it probably in 15 years. It would be great to have this on DVD and who knows more and more Canadian TV shows are coming out lately so it's entirely possible. I've also talked to someone who works at VSC and dropped hints that Edison Twins would be a great show to release. I'm crossing my fingers :)
Dean Winchester 06-12-2005, 03:57 PM top 10 unreleased (as of yet) shows
1. Roseanne (will be removed come 8/30)

3. The Cosby Show (will be removed come 8/2)
4. One Day At A Time (could be out by year-end)
5. Ally McBeal
6. Gimme A Break
7. A Different World (will be removed come November)
8. Remington Steele (will be removed come 7/26)
9. Living Single

2. The Real Ghostbusters
3. Are You Afraid of the Dark?
4. Grounded For Life (announced but no date yet)
5. Sightings
6. Student Bodies
7. An American in Canada
8. Edison Twins
9. The Little Vampire
10. Mighty Max
All of these except for Grounded For Life haven't even had a murmor if they will ever come. I'm pretty confident though that Ghostbusters and AYOFTD will come but the rest who knows?
TVQuack 06-12-2005, 05:52 PM Just some I would love to see in no particular order.
Growing Pains
Salute your Shorts
Out of this World
Perfect Strangers
JethroSimpson 06-12-2005, 06:02 PM there might be a very good chance we'll see the first two this year :)
Wonder Years, I've heard that Fox is working on that one, but there's so many music rights to be cleared
I thought that would probably be a big problem for them releasing The Wonder Years because it has so much music in it. Hopefully they can sort it out, it would be bad if they released it but edited out scenes because they couldn't use the music.
robby76 06-12-2005, 09:57 PM I can't believe someone else remembers Edison Twins? I loved this show when I was younger. I wish I had taped it because I haven't seen it probably in 15 years. I've also talked to someone who works at VSC and dropped hints that Edison Twins would be a great show to release. I'm crossing my fingers :)
If you're desperate (like I am), you can still get the Edison Twins on VHS. They released 5 volumes in 1986 (2 or 3 episodes on each video). I have 3 of them and absolutely love taking myself back in time to my Saturday mornings! My sister and I LOVED them! One of my all-time favourite shows! Don't forget to vote for it on www.tvshowsondvd.com :happyface
Dan T 06-12-2005, 11:43 PM I've got quite a few I'm waiting for. In no particular order:
The Rockford Files
Simon & Simon
Coach
WKRP
The Fall Guy
The Incredible HUlk (season sets)
Perfect Strangers
CHIPS
Mr.Belvedere
The Wonder Years
The Ropers
Three's A Crowd
Rhoda
We will probably never see all of these come to DVD. However, if you would have told me 4 years ago how much stuff would be on DVD in 2005, I would have never believed it!!
We have to keep pushing the studios to release more classic material!
robby76 06-13-2005, 01:28 AM After Dan T's post, I would like to add Simon & Simon to my list. That show was almost always in the Top 10 ratings. Crime busting and comedy... great combo!
Manifan 07-01-2005, 09:54 PM Ally McBeal
Chicago Hope
Boston Public
Empty Nest
American Gothic
Strong Medicine
Dharma & Greg
Moonlit_Suburb 07-18-2005, 01:17 AM Well, my ultimate favorite, Roseanne, is coming to DVD on August 30. I'm sure the show will sell very well, and Anchor Bay is releasing S2 shortly after S1, so I am very optimistic about that series on DVD. (I just hope the episodes are uncut...)
My other favorites are Gilmore Girls and Family Guy, which are both popular on DVD. I'm sure both series will be released in their entirety.
Mikado 07-18-2005, 02:35 AM I NEED Get Smart, especially the last season ive never seen
Luckymama58 09-08-2005, 09:35 PM You're one who'll probably get what you want, since Chico is supposed to be coming out soon and Warner is usually good about presenting things intact.
The fans of Chico and the Man are grateful to Warner Bros for finally releasing some of our show. The problem is that this will only be a six episode best of DVD. What we long and drool for is to have the complete season sets. I am hoping that the sales of this DVD will be large enough for Warner Bros to crack open the vaults and finally release the season sets. I will be in line for my best of DVD on Sept 27th as will all the fans of the show. Keep em coming.
Brian 09-08-2005, 11:59 PM I wouldn't call it an ultimate favorite since I haven't seen it but I am still waiting for the original Mission: Impossible to be released on DVD.
Dean Winchester 09-09-2005, 12:05 AM I won't lie, I'm still waiting for the day Pavan has news to tell us that Facts Of Life, One Day At A Time and season 2 of Diff'rent Strokes are coming out, on the same day, LOL.
vashti1999 09-09-2005, 12:08 AM If I had to pick one show at this point I'll be the most excited about, it would probably be Fame. There's many others that I'm looking forward to, but the day I hear that Fame Season One will be released is a day I'll be very, very happy.

Yeah, I was thinking that, because of my luck with those shows, I'd take requests from you guys to add your favorites to my list (for a fee).

treky 09-10-2005, 02:19 AM I just got an answer to my e-mail to tvshowsondvd.com where I asked about Barney Miller, & they said there's been no word from Sony, and they also said that season 1 didn't sell well, so that's probably why.
mlingerfelt 09-10-2005, 09:15 AM I am waiting for THE ROOKIES,[season sets of Chico and the Man],Chips CPO SHARKEY,and Whats Happenin Now. also more Different strokes,227,and Whos THE BOSS.and I also want more of DRAGNET,ADAM-12 AND EMERGENCY.
Adamantium 09-10-2005, 05:25 PM I just got an answer to my e-mail to tvshowsondvd.com where I asked about Barney Miller, & they said there's been no word from Sony, and they also said that season 1 didn't sell well, so that's probably why.
I don't get it. Even if a movie flops at the Box Office, they still release it on VHS and/or DVD. Why should TV shows be any different? Besides with TV shows, you can't sell just one or two seasons and then stop. With TV shows every episode has to get released. The people releasing shows just don't care. I'd like to be in charge of Sony. I'd release every season of all the shows.
Luckymama58 09-10-2005, 08:11 PM For the most part, theatrical releases are more or less really big promotions for the eventual VHS/DVD release, since that is when companies make the most money.
And that is always the bottom line isn't it...... money. *sigh*
If the fans ruled the world.......
treky 09-11-2005, 11:43 PM it's like what someone said to me once,YEARS ago: "The whole world runs on the almighty buck!"

Hawaii Five-O.
robby76 12-16-2005, 11:59 AM The Edison Twins, Eight Is Enough and Small Wonder.
These are the 3 that would keep me happy, but they all seem to be quiet on the news front! Oh and Seasons 3 and 4 of Punky Brewster... is no news good news?
6 months on and still waiting for news of these 4 shows.
freshprinceofLA 12-16-2005, 11:25 PM growing pains and family ties
Heart Shaped Box 12-16-2005, 11:45 PM Family Ties :)
MyFairBrady 12-23-2005, 02:10 AM Most of my all time favorites are already out but poor sales have put them in peril, potentially nixing further releases.
1. THE COMMISH - SEASON 3-5 I'M WAITING TO SEE RELEASED
2. MAMA'S FAMILY - HEARD IT MIGHT SEE A RELEASE DATE SOON
3. NIGHT COURT SEASONS 2-9 - LOOKS LIKE I HAVE TO SETTLE WITH A BEST OF SET
4. WHO'S THE BOSS - NOT HOLDING MY BREATH
Redd Foxx 12-23-2005, 03:57 PM Yes, and it is called, drum roll please,
Are You Afraid Of The Dark?
Dean Winchester 12-23-2005, 04:17 PM A lot of my favorites are out and doing well (Roseanne, Seinfeld, Golden Girls, etc..) and some are completed already (Buffy, Sex And The City), but there's still a few I am holding out hope for.
-The Facts Of Life - should I even justify this with an elaboration?
-Ally McBeal - the entire series is out in the UK, I am sick of the music rights holdup here. It's no longer airing on FX and you haven't seen TNT or anybody reach for it, just give us the sets already. This is a show that peaked in the first two seasons so a season 1 DVD would be heavenly because it started out at it's peak.
-One Day At A Time - promised over a year ago, another show not currently airing in reruns, what's the holdup?
TV_Fan 12-24-2005, 12:37 AM I'd have to say my ultimate unreleased sitcom favorite is Silver Spoons. I'm not getting my hopes up for a release anytime soon, and am afraid that if it does get released Sony will cancel it after the first season. I can scratch my former sitcom favorite Gimme A Break, thanks Universal!

U.M. Fanatic 12-24-2005, 11:42 PM I echo the sentiments of the people above who want Family Ties and Dinosaurs released on dvd soon.

You and me both. Starman is my most wanted show. I'm pretty confident we'll see Voyagers one day (hopefully sometime this year) given Universal's track record, but I doubt we'll ever see Starman.
comedyfreak 03-15-2006, 10:03 AM I would really love:
Starman
Voyagers!
iOffer.com has Voyagers.
robby76 03-15-2006, 10:12 AM Voyagers is also in my Top 10 dvds to get a release. Not overly desperate for it, but it's definitely in my top 10. I've seen the pretty cool bootleg dvds on Ebay, but I'll wait for the official release.
Ant-Lox 03-20-2006, 11:10 PM My Ultamite Favorites are already out (Frasier, Seinfeld, The King Of queens)..... But I have yet to buy a Cheers Set .... I'm just not in the mood for cheers now .... Mash is also one of my Favorites and I only have 2 seasons of it (5 & 6) .... I like the Winchester years A Lot more ....
