View Full Version : To me, the funniest thing Fred said to Esther was....

.....on Sanford. Not Sanford and Son. He dissed her left and right on S & S, but this particular episode of Sanford he knocked me back.

Esther wanted to move in, and Fred said no. Esther told Fed that that was her sister's home too and she could stay where she want to. Fred said, "Your sister died over 20 years ago, won't you go stay with her!" I dropped dead laughing when he said that! LOL Only Redd Foxx could think of something like that.

I'd post the line I'm thinking of, but when I did in another thread I was accused of being a racist so why bother discussing if I'm going to be slandered down the line!

I'm still trying to figure out how I can be a racist if I'm quoting a line from Fred Sanford??????

Say it. What did you say and who accused you of being a racist?

Say it. What did you say and who accused you of being a racist?
Well actually I'm still waiting for a reply if the accusation was meant towards me, but it was posted directly under my post so I'm assuming Mr. Monitor meant it for me.

I just used Fred's famous "gorilla cookies" line to describe the second Vivian on Fresh Prince. It certainly wasn't meant to be racist and I figured with it coming from Red Foxx is was o.k.. I've also had many friends of colour over the years who've used it as well as other Sanford lines. I guess I just don't think of it as of the 5 best friends I've had in my lifetime, 3 were black and 1 was Mulatto. I've also dated other colours. It's just not an issue for me. If it were, why would I enjoy Sanford & Son, Cosby, Fresh Prince, etc., Will Smith as one of my favourite actors and have a quote from Jimi Hendrix in my avatar.

UPDATE: - All's straightened out on the other thread and we're cool - no hard feelings! ;) :)
If they did mean me, I'll apologize if they were offended, but it certainly wasn't mean in a racist tone (and I'm offended at the accusation - I'm anything but a racist - and I find the term extreme).

Anyway, to me, it was when he was saying that to Esther - that he'll use her face as a mould to make "gorilla cookies" - I thought it was funny.

Fred's famous "gorilla cookies"My favorite along with "she looks like the part of the polaroid you tear off (dated reference but still damn funny). But maybe that one wasn't directed to Esther. I think he was talking to Melvin too. Oh well.

I liked the look Fred gave Esther in the Circus episode when Esther asked Fred what she was supposed to do with the new supplies she bought for the Circus.

Or my favorite was when Fred came back from his trip in St. Louis and gave Esther plastic wrapper as a gift:
Esther: "This is just a clear piece of plastic"
Fred: "No it's not, hold it up to your face"
<Esther puts the plastic wrap up to her face>
Fred: "It's your Halloween mask!"

No Fred wasn't talking about Esther when he said that. I can't remember who he wasn't talking about.

Fred: "Poor wall, it's a good thing you ain't got no eyes, that way you can't see who talking to you!"

My favorite was< Esther saying:I just brought over some of my homemade preserves(holding it up)

Fred: Well don't get it up there to close to your face, cause we don't want to preserve that

I still like the episode when they're all coming back from a friend's funeral, and Esther is going on about how nice the ceremony was.

ESTHER: It was a beautiful ceremony. Just beautiful. And they had a real nice spread about it in the Mortician's Digest.

BUBBA: What do you know about the Mortician's Digest, Esther?

FRED(Irritated) : She POSED for the CENTERFOLD.

Here's some I like in the episode Fred and Esther get chained together:
Esther looking at Fred mopping: "I don't believe it, I just don't believe it! You with a mop in your hand??... Well it's about time you faced up to this mess!"
Fred: "Speaking of facing up to this mess, who messed up this face?"
Esther: "Fred Sanford, why is it everytime I come over here you call me ugly?"
Fred: "'cause I'm not the type to lie"

Here's another one:
Esther: "Now what do I do every year around this time?"
Fred: "Shed your skin"
Esther: "No, I round up talent for my church show"
Fred: "Esther, that's where you belong.. a roundup!"

Also... I think the sounds of the chains clinging were dubbed in.

This was a more subtle insult but i thought it was hilarious none the less. It is from the episode "Tower Power" where Fred builts a huge sculpture in his yard.

Esther: "Lamont! You father wants me pay him to come in here!"

Fred: "Hell! You should tip me just to look at you."

JeffRuss1972

I also like when Fred received a package from the mailman:

"Thanks a lot for the package, now feel free to go back to your appointed rounds. And if you expecting a tip, go back to your DISappointed rounds."

I liked when Fred kissed Esther before going to Hawaii. After he kissed her he just stood there in a dumbfounded daze.

I think this is the only episode he ever kissed her????

What about the episode when Fred was a witness in the hospital against the mob boss Daniel Tracy and he asked Esther to pull the drapes open for him.

How about one with Grady and Esther:

Grady: She can't stay here, because there isn't any room.
Esther: That's what they told the baby Jesus but they found him a place.
Grady: okay, I'll build you a little manger out in the back yard and get you some sheep to sleep with.

That quote came from #63 ("The Surprise Party"), in which Fred and Aunt Esther traded these really funny insults, such as Fred told her she didn't need a drink, then she asked (paraphrased) "Why don't I need one?" and Fred said "Because you are one. A (z)ombie."

I'll post more insults from that episode later on today!

Esther (to Fred): "Now I could've called you pickleheaded evildoin' heathen, but I won't.' (Grady says something to Fred.) Esther (cont'd): "And I could've called you a frogeyed, fisheatin' fool, but I won't." Fred: "And I could've called you a monkeyfaced, fatbottom go-rilla.(pause)But I didn't. LOL - that one pretty much takes the cake.

Another good "line of insults" exchange occured in the "Sensitivity Group" ep. when Lamont moved in with Julio.

Esther kept insulting Fred for kicking Lamont out, saying that it was actually "Elizabeth talkin'!" Then Fred said "Esther, if you keep insultin' me like that, I'm gonna need an alibi." :)

Fred: "Listen to that. The voice of a chicken comin' out of a buzzard." (to Lamont): "That's what she is, a gorilla. She looks like Mighty Joe Young's sister....Mighty Ugly."
