View Full Version : Does it bother you when cartoons are made over to look more up to date?
TVFactFan 06-02-2005, 12:10 PM I hate this and prefer to see the original cartoons i used to watch like Scobby Doo. I don;t like the 2000 era Scooby do gang and would prefer to see the version of Scooby Doo I watched in 1979. Same thing with Tom and Jerry. I don;t like the more up to date cartoons. Anyone else?
dlemond 06-02-2005, 12:25 PM I agree.
I like the original animation better. With Looney Tunes (Bugs, Daffy, Elmer, etc) especially. They were given a modernized look in the 70s and 80s.
Also Tom and Jerry, Woody Woodpecker, The Jetsons were all changed somewhere between the mid 70s and 80s I believe.
As far as Scooby Doo goes, he premiered in 1969 and the show changed a few times up until 1979 when the ultimate horror of Scrappy was introduced.
The earlier the Scooby Doo the better, but after 1978 it was just awful.
TVFactFan 06-02-2005, 08:06 PM I agree.

Yeah I hated Scrappy Doo too-LOL What was the point of that
Brian Damage 06-03-2005, 10:22 AM I think Scrappy was introduced to bring in more kids to watch the show.

Scrappy Doo was actually mentioned in a sitcom during the 90's-lol
greenlaser5555 06-03-2005, 05:52 PM Well Scooby Doo had really started to suck in that damn late 80's-early 90's version when they were like kids & teens. I like Scooby Doo's mid-eighties version, Mysteries & 13 Ghost much better.
Also Tom and Jerry's 1963-1967 cartoons were horrible. And here are some changes. There's no Spike, Tom became a little p#$$y, and Jerry became none other than a queer. I like the 40's, 50's & early 60's versions alot better.

What year of Tom and Jerry had the Woman in the Kitchen?
I like the Scooby Doo's when they had the guest stars like Don Knotts and Harlem Globe Trotters

I liked those episodes too, especially when they had other cartoon characters guest starring, like Jeannie and Babu, Speed Buggy, and Josie and the Pussycats.

Are you talking about Sylvester the Cat and Tweety the Bird?
snl75 06-07-2005, 03:14 AM Are you talking about Sylvester the Cat and Tweety the Bird?yep the very ones
jayman75 06-08-2005, 12:56 PM I miss the classic Looney Tunes, Woody Woodpecker, Chily Willy the Penguin, Yogi Bear, Pixie and Dixie, ANY Saturday morning cartoons from the 80s, and Voltron.
Give me some Jem! Or some SMURFS!! Or even some Super Friends!!! Don't remake the classics. People are just desperate to make money on memories.
W.J. Griffin 06-18-2005, 10:34 PM Yes, I, too, hate it when these producers decide to "update" classic cartoon characters by putting in "contemporary" ideas and attitudes.
Hanna-Barbera was especially guilty of this crime...what they did to subsequent remakes of Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, Jonny Quest, the Jetsons (I freakin' HATE the '80s episodes!!) and especially "Space Ghost" is unforgivable!!(An aside: While I feel that "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" is a complete waste of airspace, "Harvey Birdman, Attorney At Law" is an unqualified HOOT!! At least this update, along with "Sealab 2021" is light years ahead of the originals.)
Ditto with the Looney Tunes (@#*!!in' sell-outs...why the hell would the Tasmanian Devil hang around with geeks like Sylvester and Elmer Fudd, anyway? I wouldn't be caught dead with them fools!! I mean, HONESTLY...)
And don't get me started on "Super Friends". "Challenge" or not, them shows sucked!!
And now, just when you thought things couldn't suck any more, Warner Bros. is giving us "Loonatics"...
FIGHT THE MACHINE!!!

They changed the format of the network. Cartoon Network now runs mostly original cartoons, while their sister channel Boomerang airs all the classic cartoons.

I think I only have Boomerang as an ON DEMAND feature. I don't think I can grab the remote and change it to Boomerang-lol
spunkygirl 06-25-2005, 07:24 PM I love Boomerang, I watch it more than any other channel nowadays

Boomerang is a very good channel.
spunkygirl 06-25-2005, 07:33 PM Boomerang rocks  I record more shows from it than any other channel :D
Mikado 07-09-2005, 12:24 AM yes, i hate that, nuff said
megamanj2004 07-16-2005, 08:57 PM I think Scrappy was introduced to bring in more kids to watch the show.
That's kind of funny to whoever said that, b/c i read a post at jumptheshark.com and they said that little kids got scared of Scrappy Doo! :D But unfortunately, that's the true shark jump for Scooby Doo.
And I agree with remakes of already established cartoons. Why do they anime-lize most of them? I rather watch cartoons with the cheesy animation than those with that anime-lized (no offense to anime fans) technology anyday.
The same thing can be said for Baby Looney Tunes as well. If I want to watch the Looney Tunes characters as midgets, watch Tiny Toons on Nicktoons, anyday!
As much as I like Sonic X, they do not need to anime-lize it, either. The earlier Sonic cartoons had better animation (except for the first series, pre-dark Sonic era.)
For TMNT, when I first saw CN's schedule about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming to their shcedule, I was hoping for the 1987-96 version that most of us knew and love, but instead they put the newer version on. I like that it stayed true to the comics, but again anime-izing it is unnecessary as well as that god-awful ****ty new theme.
Damn It! I don't even get Boomerang on my cable service! Cartoon Network sucks ass nowadays anyway!
BTW, (What's the Purpose of the Cartton Network? I never see anything CLASSIC on there-lol) the only classics that are on the sched during the weekdays nowadays is Tom and Jerry as far as I know.
This is part of why most of today's cartoons suck ass nowadays!
Today, will continue watching NickToons TV and/or Boomerang everyday! Fewer crap on the scheds!
