Once, I was at the dentist and they had to put in a filling, so I had to have that gas crap. It took about 25 minutes for it to finally kick in so I'll be numb, but I still wasn't numb enough for them to work on. At this point, I was getting kinda dizzy. Finally I felt numb enough and they started working. And I wasn't too dizzy anymore. A while later (while they were putting in my filling), I was no longer numb and I felt every single thing they were doing inside my month! I still have no idea why that happened! But I couldn't talk to tell what I could feel. And I didn't even notice that I was crying until the dentist started wiping my face. When they were done, they found out what happened and they were afraid we were going to file a lawsuit or something! So I switched to a different dentist. :D

Don't forget to floss!! ;)

Either getting my wisdom teeth out or the migraines I get. It feels like someone took a pick axe to my head.

The 8 teeth abcesses I've had in the past 5 years. The last was the worst - the infection spread to my jawbone, eye socket and up the side of my skull. The dentist tried to open 6 different areas in the gum to drain it, (he was even pushing from my eye socket downwards) but couldn't get much. He put me on extremely strong antibiotics and painkillers and said if it got any worse, I'd need to be rushed to ER as it was that close to getting into my bloodstream.

I've had a lot of chronic pain with the three forms of arthritis I have over the years, but the abcesses beat everything. :(

No really, It got sliced off at work a few years ago and after I was taken to the hospital, my co workers went to look for it and couldn't find it anywhere. It probably got swept up with the trash. Funny thing though, after several months much of the skin and tissue grew back on it's own.

I've never broken any bones or anything, but I've had so much trouble with my teeth. The first time I got braces, I remember it hurting for a couple days; it was terrible. It wasn't as bad as the time that I had to go to an oral surgeon and he cut half my gum open. That was probably the worst pain I've ever been in :o

Same here. I've never got stung by a bee or broken a bone. My braces were sore a few days I got them on, and they hurt a lot. I guess my only other pain is when I sprained my wrists and my ankle.

Reminds me of when I had a colonoscopy once and the sedation hadn't kicked in when they rolled me into the O.R.. I told them I wasn't sedated at all - I was sitting upright on the gurney and had been talking baseball stats with an orderly. Didn't matter - they did it anyway and even when he couldn't get it past one curve, had me change my position and with my hand try to move my abdomen myself so that it could get past a fold. The idiot should have had his license revoked!

My mother also woke up during her gastric bypass surgery (for cancer, not excessive weight) back in the 70's. She heard exactly what the surgeon was talking about, felt a burning pain but couldn't move or speak. She said she was awake for about 5 minutes. At first they didn't believe her until she told him the name of his sail boat and when he had it out last (the topic of his conversation that she shouldn't have heard). Pretty strange!!

That said though, still wasn't the worst pain either of us ever had.

For a while the medical profession tried to hide this fact as it happens more than they would like you to think. It depends on the person and how they react to the anethesia. To me - that would be the worst because you're totally paralyzed and they only can tell by blood pressure and other readings whether you're coming out or not. I heard recently that its completely the anethesologist's fault if you come to - he should be able to tell WELL before you're that aware. Just horrible!!

And yeah, my mom said the gallbladder was as bad as childbirth (and she had a very rough one with me). I've never had kids, but I've heard from women who have that say an abcessed tooth is as painful as childbirth, but at least in childbirth you have something to show for it afterwards instead of a huge dental bill! I think they have a point!

I've had some fun migraines too in the past that felt like they were strokes they were so intense - and would last for three days.

I'm still thankful we live today - imagine going through stuff like that even 100 years ago????!!! YIKES!

P.S. - so sorry to hear about your daughter and grandchild Marlene. It's always heartbreaking.

Don't know about Marlene, but I understand they now usually do it laproscopically - two or three holes are made (no long incision) and they basically suck it out with tubes they insert that have cameras and scalpels on them. Much less pain and recovery time required when done that way.

I had one done on my uterus - wasn't bad at all. Hope all goes well for you!

Yeah, I think that's what my mom said about it. Ugh, it makes me so disgusted. Never in my life I've had an operation, and I plan not to in the future. I don't want any tubes and stuff in me!

Wow, uterus? You're lucky it didn't hurt. Thanks though! I don't think I have a big problem with it though - just only my heart.

Also to add for worst pain: Getting shots and blood taken out. I hate it!

That happened to me and an old friend of mine. We were goofing around and chasing eachother over a bunch of old planks. He stepped on the nail first, then I stepped on the exact same nail! We both got a scolding for that!

Winner: Getting whalloped in the head by the box springs of a bed, hard (was a little younger at the time). Ever seen a TV show/cartoon where someone, carrying something head-level, suddenly swings it around - hitting the person innocently standing nearby? That.

That. Hurt. Like. Hell, largely due to the energy gained by the momentum of the swing.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a challenger to the throne previously held by the box springs bonk!

I occasionally have a toenail become ingrown. It alone, doesn't really bother me much, pain-wise (even if it gets to be infected), I get it cut out, I'm fine for another year or so.

Well, I've currently got one. And what happens? Dropped something heavy on it by accident from around 5 ft up. Hurt*S* like hell.

One of the worst emotional pains anybody can have when it comes to somebody dying is when they commit suicide. I experienced it firsthand and would NEVER wish the pain on anybody. As far as physical pain goes...

1. Dentist Work...I swear no matter how much stuff the try to numb me with, it is always the most HORRIBLE pain. It makes me want to barf just thinking about it.
2. Falling off some sort of jungle gym like thing at the park when I was 13 or 14 and landing on on of the lower bars...Right in the NUTS.
3. Getting my toenail ripped off when I slipped and ran it under a door in 2003...Not a pleasant expirience by any means.

Other than that...I'd probably have to say getting a huge friction burn on my arm going down one of those HUGE slides on Belle Isle. I still have a scar going all the way up my arm, and that was over 10 years ago.

Hmmm, Where to start....

1. Surviving A Car accident When I Was 4.

2. Being burnt on a wood stove when I Was 3

3. Having my head cracked open with a fishing pole When I Was 8.

4. Falling off a 20 foot slide When I Was 6.

5. Having A Potato thrown at me and hit me in the head when I Was 7.

I Was a very injury prone boy.

This reminds me of a commercial like that - and the tag line is something like, "It'a a wonder he made it to the age of ten!!"

Yeah, I had a car wash brush thrown at me when I was 3 and remember it vividly. Had to get stitches in my right eyebrow and still have a big scar there from it. Boy do head wounds bleed badly!

As for the emotional pain - well, I can't even go there. Let's just say I have a few "t-shirts" in my collection (as in, "been there, done that, got the t-shirt"). :(

I tripped and fell over nothing when I was five in 1990 and I ended up breaking my glasses and having to go to the ER to get stitches, because I managed to split my left eyebrow open. THAT was lovely. :( I can vividly remember it bleeding and I vividly remember crying really hard when the docs were stitching me up...it hurt SO ****ing much. I remember when my dad was leading me into the ward to get stitched up, I walked past a man lying on one of the beds that had been in a nasty motorcycle wreck. UGH. I will never forget that.

My worst pain, I guess, was when I feel and dislocated my knee cap, tore my miniscus, and sprained my MCL...couldn't walk and all that....nothing exciting or that terribly bad compared to some of you guys, though!!

I fell into an open-air dye vat at work & burned 80% of my body. I was in the Burn Unit at Winston-Salem, NC. When they first started, they have to scrape off all the dead burnt skin. With pain meds, even then, I was told by my wife that she could hear me yelling, screaming, & crying throughout the building. Even in my hospital bed it was hard to get my back to heal. When they changed the medicated strips, new skin would peel off with them & I would scream in excruciating pain. I am so glad that part is over now. I thank God that I am alive each day.

A couple of things come to mind. Hard to decide:

1)I was playing basketball during a block party and I stepped on uneven pavement and my ankle bent almost all the way. One more hyperextension would have torn everything according to the doctor.

2)I was closing the door to my backyard and I only got 4 of the 5 fingers away from the door and slammed it on my middle finger.

3)When I had food poisoning when I was 7. The cramps were so bad.

4)Dislocating my elbow. The actual fall wasn't that painful. It was popping it back in that was.

5)Any time I accidently kicked the wooden box near my couch. My dad and I have each broken a toe over the years.

When my high school (and my only ever serious) girlfriend died of cancer on July 6, 1994. That was real emotional pain. :(

Well, imagine having to go through that pain EVERY month for about 40 years. That's how we females feel. ;)

I shut my leg in a car door. Most people are like, "Oh I shut my finger in the door" ... yeah, not me. I was late for practise, RUNNING, I just go to slam the door, it catches my leg and goes BAM on it. I limped up to the school, run into the auditorium, throw my stuff down and hoist my aching leg onto the seat. All my friends go, "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO??" I told them and they all laughed at me :p There is going to be the biggest scar from that.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, so I've had to develop a high tolerance for pain over the last few years. It's just the nature of the beast.

But even so, I still can't handle the excrutiating pain of a toothache. A few months back, one of my fillings broke off when I was at work, and the pain was so bad that I couldn't even think straight enough to look up my dentist office's phone number.

A bad toothache is probably the worst physical pain that a person can suffer.

You must have the heart of a saint to be able to get thru something like that, your wife and family must also be angels to stand by you when you need it the most. It really makes you wonder about life, that is why everyone should enjoy their health while they have it.

Certainly never thought that I would be in the shape that I am now, there are many days that I cannot get out of bed or dress myself due to physical challenges. Somehow I always make it, never missed more than a few hours here & there from work for doctors appoinments, etc. Way too many hospital bills piling up.

I commend you & your family for what you have went thru and what you are facing, good luck.
