I visit a couple of websites and it says I need to install a plug in. I do have Macromedia Flash, I thought that was compatible with Firefox? What do I need to do to install a plug in for Firefox?

Anyone know? thanks

It should say click here to install plug-in where the flash applet should be and when you click that it installs it.

I do that and it says no suitable plugins found :(

the most common plug-ins are here:

https://pfs.mozilla.org/plugins/

you should be able to click on the "Install missing plug-ins" button in the bar at the top of the tab, or install it manually

what is the file you are trying to view?

...and anything not on that page, should be on this one:

http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/windows.html

It's still not letting me. The browser is preventing me from installing it for some reason

you may have to add that site to the "allowed sites" list to install software

go to the Tools>Options and click on the Web Features tab

make sure the "Allow Web sites to install software" is checked, and click on the "Allowed Sites" button

add mozilla.org and mozdev.org

then try to install your plugin again (make sure it's the right one for that filetype)

is your firefox up-to-date?

go to the Help>About menu, the current version is 1.0.3 (the most current versions of some plugins may not work with older versions of firefox)

Yeah it's the current version 1.0.3.

How do I know which plug in suitable for a website? I installed one, but I guess it wasn't the right type for that website.

Yeah it's the current version 1.0.3.

How do I know which plug in suitable for a website? I installed one, but I guess it wasn't the right type for that website.Sometimes it won't install correctly, because the flash plug-in works for all sites with flash

try it - use the same version as you have for Media Player (9 or 10)

See I'm confused cause I already have Media Player 9 installed, and I click on that, and it wants me to install it again

the plugin is NOT the same as the full version of Windows Media Player, you need to install it to play wmv in the browser

apparently for WMP you have to go through the Custom Installation option when you do the install routine, and select which programs to register the plugin for...

we can check to see if it is registered in firefox, open the Tools> Options> click on the Downloads tab, under filetypes, click on Plug-ins...

which plugins does it list?

robyrob

i usually use the Real Alternative player - it plays RealPlayer and Quicktime files in the classic WMP plugin - so it may not be compatible with something that needs version WMP 9 or 10

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm

(I'm going to install it on this machine and see if it'll play that file)

....edit - apparently whatever that file is, it NEEDS the WMP plug-in

Well I think I'll just forget it, I guess it wasn't meant to be :(

I do have another problem, maybe you can help me with that instead. I am getting this message with Firefox Browser ONLY when I go to www.tvshowsondvd.com:

http://img193.echo.cx/img193/4208/tsod1su.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)

Do you know what's causing that?

that looks like a java scripting error - it could be the site's fault, or it could be something messed up in your temporary files that the javascript is trying to use.

try clearing your temporary files and empty the browser's cache (Tools>Options>Privacy>Cache>Clear)

...as for the WMP problem, you have to activate/install the plugin during the setup installation for the full version of WMP. I believe you can ADD it from the Add/Remove Programs entry for WMP in the Control Panel - just select it and choose the Change option, then choose the option to modify the installation, and there should be an option to enable the Netscape/Mozilla plugin by checking a box.

the problem is that I am giving you these instructions from memory and I can't find any explicit instructions that give you the step-by-step to enable it. :(

I'll keep looking.

Thanks for all of your help and thanks to Dr. Phillips too :)

I tried that and I'm still getting the error message. I contacted Gord Lacey at TSoD and he said he's had problems like that come up before with Netscape.

I tried uninstalling and resintalling and that didn't help. TSoD comes up fine with Internet Explorer so I might use that to get to TSoD until something can be done to fix this.

I appreciate all of your help. All this confuses me cause I'm not very computer savvy :(
