View Full Version : Would it have worked if Mr. Furley acknowledged the camera like Mr. Roper did? GARFIELDKOOL 05-05-2005, 07:45 AM Don Knotts was hilarious so I would say yes! TV DVD Fan 05-05-2005, 09:07 AM i think they wanted roper and furley to be way different from each other, so they probably never even gave it a first thought. it would probably work though. BUT... remember how they gave each character their own little thing. the roper camera smirk, and the furley eye bulge. pat GARFIELDKOOL 07-09-2005, 09:57 AM bump Mr. Television 07-09-2005, 01:09 PM i think they wanted roper and furley to be way different from each other, so they probably never even gave it a first thought. it would probably work though. BUT... remember how they gave each character their own little thing. the roper camera smirk, and the furley eye bulge. pat Exactly. You don't want a carbon copy of Mr. Roper. Terri Cardellini 07-09-2005, 02:17 PM That would be like trying to copy Chrissy with Cindy. Which we all know didn't work. I Love John Ritter 07-09-2005, 03:57 PM It would not work if Furley did the camera mug as well as Roper. Each character had their own different thing, Roper had the camera mug, and like TV DVD Fan mentioned, Furley had the eye bulge. Norman Fell was the only actor the producers allowed to somehow make "contact" with the audience when he played the character of Roper. This is called "breaking the fourth wall". He did this, of course, by doing the famous Roper "camera mug". Janet Tripper 07-09-2005, 05:00 PM No! What makes each character differnet is what makes us like them! PrettyinPink55 07-09-2005, 08:43 PM It would not work if Furley did the camera mug as well as Roper. Norman Fell was the only actor the producers allowed to somehow make "contact" with the audience when he played the character of Roper. This is called "breaking the fourth wall". He did this, of course, by doing the famous Roper "camera mug". So very true!!!! Each character did have their own thing. TVFactFan 07-10-2005, 01:42 PM Don Knotts was hilarious so I would say yes! That only worked for Mr. Roper because he was serious 85% of the time. So no it wouldn't have worked for Mr. Furley because he was Goofy 85% of the time. Moonlight Lady 07-10-2005, 02:03 PM No, It was only funny when Mr. Roper did the camera mug. That was his thing. Mr. Television 07-10-2005, 02:32 PM No, It was only funny when Mr. Roper did the camera mug. That was his thing. I remember one episode Mr. Furley nearly did it, When the trio thought he was dying. Right before it went to commercial he sort of smiled to the camera. Kristen J. 07-10-2005, 04:39 PM I remember one episode Mr. Furley nearly did it, When the trio thought he was dying. Right before it went to commercial he sort of smiled to the camera. :lol:Lol! Yeah I remember him doing something like that! PrettyinPink55 07-10-2005, 09:56 PM I remember one episode Mr. Furley nearly did it, When the trio thought he was dying. Right before it went to commercial he sort of smiled to the camera. I'll have to watch more carefully when that episode comes up! I remember that episode though, when the trio thinks he is dying, and they cater to his every whim... |
