With the upfronts just 2 weeks away, I thought it might be fun to make bold predictions for the network's fall line-ups. Try to do so with a realistic outlook towards your favorite series. For instance, I love Less Than Perfect, but I know it's as good as dead. I'll start with ABC.

Reasoning: 8pm Monday ratings are always bad for ABC because the show gets preempted in half the country. Something cheap for sure.

It would also open up 8pm to a new drama, maybe one of the Housewive-like shows that ABC has in development. "Anatomy" could also be moved up to the slot.

Yes:Half of the new shows will be gone before week 6 of the new season will have passed.Why can't these :cuss: networks at least let a show go at least 13 weeks before pulling the plug?That what they used to do in the good ol' days.They would even(believe it or not)let a show stay on A WHOLE YEAR and let the Summer reruns ratings comes in before cancelling a show!!!Now with the reality shows being the easy way out(and a cheep way),the sitcoms might as well be dead!Remember;it takes millions of dollars to create a show,find the right actors,and when you add in the competition(esspecially from cable),the error of sucess/failure is few and far between.I would like to see at least one sitcom that's NOT base on a comic routine.

"60 Minutes II" is likely to be cancelled all together, especially considering the memo gate scandal and declining ratings. CBS might try another reality show Tuesdays at 10pm, as well.

I think there's a decent chance CBS may do away with sitcoms all together on Wednesdays and just have 4 on Mondays... as sad as it is. I'll be shocked if any network has more sitcoms on in the Fall than they did when this fall season started.

I wouldn't be surprise if the networks just take off ALL of the sitcoms,and just have dramas and realities shows.I dought that ABC will put on another game show even if it is Super Millionare.Of course,I don't know what I'm ranting for;I seldolm watch the networks anyway! :lol:

I like your sched, Riff, but I'm torn whether TAR will stay at 9pm or more to 10pm. The advantage for 9pm is that it'll give the 10pm show a big adults lead-in (which NCIS will not), but at 10pm, a new drama will have a tough time against other established dramas. Also, it'd be tougher for TAR to get that important family audience at 10pm, especially considering that they'll be airing a family edition in the fall.

i'm pretty sure "Yes, Dear" will come back- it's been building off it's lead-in. Granted, KOQ faces "Idol" and YD does not.

Ratings have declined quite a bit for Fran, but they're still good enough to get a second season.

Word is that Joey is getting shipped to Tuesday, The Office is getting a secodn season, and in an unprescidented movie, Trial By Jury is getting cancelled.

No official word on Charmed yet, but the producers did make a season finale that could also serve as a series finale, just in case.

Well, apparently NBC is desperate for comedy, so I guess that answers it. If I were Zucker, I wouldn't even consider bringing back The Office until midseason again.

NBC is in dire straits right now. "Joey" drew just 8.8 million viewers for it's season finale last night. I could really see NBC giving up on sitcoms all together on Thursday next season. So far, it's got Will & Grace, Joey, Scrubs and maybe The Office coming back, and unless a miracle happens, they will all be cancelled by the end of next season. Could NBC be sitcomless in 2006/07? It's a very distinct possibility, especially with Sunday night football coming and "CI" and "Crossing Jordan" needing new homes.

I am sure in early 91, people would've said "Tartikoff is nuts for renewing Seinfeld". I think The Office has a chance at being one of those slow-burning hits that takes off after the network gives it time to find it's audience.

people say NBC should kill sitcoms on Thursdays. I disagree. It's NBC who screwed with the system by putting REALITY on Thursdays.

One of the big deals with reality shows on Thursday is that "Must See Thursday" has always been a harbor for sitcoms that have long lives in syndication long after they leave the air. 20 Years later, people are still watching Cosby Show and Cheers, 10 Years later, people are still watching Seinfeld and Friends. Reality shows have proven a very unsuccessful shelf life in terms of reruns, CBS reran the first Survivor season to pisspoor ratings, and haven't even bothered doing the same with the seasons that followed. The Apprentice will never be to 2005 what Seinfeld and Friends were in 1995 and Cosby, Cheers, Family Ties and Night Court were in 1985.

NBC screwed it up. And it didn't help that they axed basically every sitcom that came along that wasn't as big as Friends or as acclaimed as Frasier (the only reason they let W&G last long enough to finally become a top 10 hit was because it had critical respect) but now with those 2 shows gone, NBC has found themselves struggling, and they deserve it.

I totally agree. I don't even watch NBC Sitcoms anymore. They ditched them all and started to go with Reality TV. It doesn't seem long ago that tey dominated Thursday nights but now the Must See Lineup on Thursday belongs to CBS. They had a decade to try to find a successor to Friends and Seinfeld and they couldn't do it. One of the reasons is that they just tried to copy them and none of their new sitcoms had any originality. Their 2 best sitcoms in the late 90's IMO was 3rd Rock From The Sun and News Radio and NBC moved them from one time period to another until they killed them. As for Reality I think NBC will regret giving Thursday over to Donald Trump. I still can't believe they want to do a Martha Stewart spin-off show.

ITA with NBC killing itself with sitcoms. A huge part of it was the sitcoms they chose to air on the night. Outside of Friends, Seinfeld, Frasier and Will & Grace, has NBC had any critically acclaimed, hit sitcoms, in the past 10 years? NBC chose sitcoms that were derivative and people didn't watch them, so they got cancelled. It had no backup plan for when "Friends" left. "Friends"s departure hurt NBC alot more than Seinfeld did because the network has nothing waiting in the wings last time.

I'm not saying that I think NBC should dump sitcoms all together on Thursday, but it's really looking like they will have to. Another season of "Joey" to lead-off the night is just not going to work, especially since it hasn't even broke 10 million viewers since February. But in getting rid of sitcoms, NBC runs the huge risk of airing a new show that does even worse.

To that end, it shouldn't be cancelled TBJ either. Sure, it's not winning its timeslot, but 10 million viewers is not that bad. It's going to end up airing a new show that does even worse in what is a tough timeslot.

"The Office" could very well break out, but then again, it may not. "Scrubs" hasn't, even 4 seasons in, despite getting the post "Friends" timeslot for a season and a half. Even an all sitcom night on Tuesday next season is going to be a up-hill struggle. "Scrubs" hasn't broken 6 million viewers in 2 months, and a new W&G last Tuesday at 9:30 drew only 5.5 million viewers and didn't even hold onto all of its lead-in. "Joey," as I said before, drew only 8.8 million for its finale on Thursday. These shows are basically dead, and it's NBC's fault.
