Looks white to me... which would mean a new Pope elected. Crowds are cheering. Nothing official yet and the bells have not tolled.

Hour is strange. They had just come back from a break.

Some places calling it "dark".

Yup - its official!

(look at us - neither of us is even Catholic)

Since they just got back from break, and its only the second day, its got to be one of the front runners.

Front Runners are just those that those on the outside think are at the top of the list...there could QUITE easily be a Cardinal that noone thought of that was highly regarded among the Cardinals

Yeah they were just saying that on CNN. Geez, this puts the Miss America Pageant to shame for the excitment in hearing the "winner"!!

Yeah I watched the coverage on NBC today. Although not quite a devout Catholic, it was still exciting to see a piece of history being made.

But Benedict?! Ugh... I hate that name.

 Yeah. It's not a name I would have chosen myself. But, at least the Pope has a choice! That's more than most people can say!

Eggs Benedict is one of my favorite dishes. Now everytime I eat them, I'll be thinking of this guy :o

Btw, you do know who I am, right? ;)

Does the Pope have to be old?

Pope John Paul II was one of the youngest... only 58 when elected, so, yes.

All I can think of his Benedict Arnold!!!! YIKES!

Course it's better than Pope Barney or something like that - you'd be thinking of a big purple dinosaur then!!

Well they're chosen from the most senior "elders" of the church as it takes many years to rise through the ranks of priest, bishop, archbishop, cardinal - pope so yeah, the guy's gonna be up there. JPII obviously rose through the ranks fairly quickly. This is closer to the norm (although I think maybe early 70s is more viable).
