View Full Version : Least Favorite Character Brett Ferino 03-28-2001, 11:22 PM Who is it and why? Pitooey 04-26-2001, 07:06 PM I might hear it but, I detested Mr. Haney!!!! I enjoyed the pig more. MARFAR104 04-30-2001, 12:37 PM MR. KIMBALL. HE DRIVES ME NUTS! NAN ELIZABETH 07-07-2001, 10:02 AM Mr. Ziffel. He always wore the same clothes and was a scraggily old man, especially with that beard. I don't know what his wife Doris saw in him, but to me, HE'S UGLY!!1. [This message has been edited by NAN ELIZABETH (edited 07-10-2001).] Mignon 08-06-2001, 09:07 AM Uncle Joe...... something about his monotone voice really annoyed me. I'm glad they dropped the character. goldie 09-03-2003, 10:41 PM Mr. Ziffel, and especially Hank Kimball and Haney were very important characters in the series, and were extremely funny - not sure how anyone could think they were annoying or not funny. You have to realize just how clever their scripted dialogue was, and the art of their delivery and timing as actors - really talented. Joe Carson was a transition character from "Petticoat Junction" as GA was a spinoff of that series. Peace ~ Sara_M 09-04-2003, 11:10 AM I agree with goldie, all of the characters were important to the show; if the characters hadn't been portrayed as they were, the show wouldn't have been as funny and great as it was. I just don't have a least favorite character because they were all funny and talented in their own way. Cheers! peacesign: ~*Dailey'sGurl*~ 04-13-2004, 12:35 PM Yes, all the characters were important, but I still despised MR. HANEY... IMO he is aggravating! ScottD 04-13-2004, 05:18 PM I can't really say I don't like any of the characters either. I think Mr. Haney and Mr. Kimball are hilarious! Yes, I'd find them extremely annoying if I knew them, but hilarious nonetheless. marvin g 04-14-2004, 09:35 PM I didn't like Mr. Haney when I was young but I've grown to like him. I've always like Kimbal! CarJackSnyder 04-18-2004, 05:33 PM I lyk dem all !!! each 1 has a special place in da show!!! :D :D tdr 04-20-2004, 11:45 PM Although there were a few funny moments about him, I didn't like Arnold the pig very much. A pig watching television, sleeping in a crib, falling in love with a basset hound, and having his grunts understood as spoken language by almost everyone except the "strange" Mr. Douglas... this is too far out even for a silly and somewhat satirical farce like GA. If the Ziffels were silly enough to treat a young pig who never grows as part of the family (since they apparently had no kids), that's one thing. But to give him human qualities and to make the straight man Douglas as the stupid one who doesn't believe he actually is a 'virtual human' is almost akin to the Outer Limits. And in the 60's they couldn't even talk about all the pig*%#@ that would have to cleaned up in the Ziffel house, and sometimes the Douglas house and Drucker's Store. Nevertheless, the funniest scene with Arnold I recall was when Sam Drucker had a display of something with the name Gourmet in it, but he spelled it GOORMAY on his sign. Then Fred Z. and Arnold come in, Arnold grunts a few times and Fred says, "Arnold says ya ain't got gourmet spelled right." If that's about as far as they took it, alright; but sleeping in bed and crying because the light is put out....sheesh! Incidentally, I had an aunt-- "great aunt," I think-- who was sometimes talked about as being a little "off her rocker," and I only saw her a couple of times. And she had this chicken-- a plain old hen-- which she kept in the house and talked to it like part of the family, not caring how much she had to clean up after it. So there actually are some Ziffel and Arnold comparables out there  . Dixie Darlin' 06-19-2004, 04:51 PM Hm, where to begin? I never liked Fred Ziffel, he was always so grumpy. And the way he treated Doris was beyond me. I would have divorced if he were my husband, but then I hear that divorce was not so big back then. Sorry guys, I never liked Arnold, there was just too many episodes revolving around him if you ask me. During the last season, Lisa started getting on my nerves, she was acting even dumber than usual. And Mr. Kimball, I swear I think he got dumber as the show progressed. The only people on the show I actually liked full-time were Mr. Haney and Eb. Oliver was okay sometimes, and Lisa was fine until the last season. Miss Lisa 01-08-2005, 05:48 PM I've always hated Mr.Wheeler he was really stuck up. grnacrsfan 01-09-2005, 04:40 PM I never really hated any of the characters but the way they acted sometimes annoyed me. Mr. Haney was funny, but at times the way he constantly hasseled Mr. Douglas for money got on my nerves. Mr. Kimball was also extremely funny, but his forgetfullness did annoy me at times. Mr. Douglas's temper also got on my nerves, especially when his anger was directed at Lisa. And although Lisa is still my favorite character of all time, in the last season, I hated the way they made her dumber than usual. Usually there would be a sort of strange sense and intelligence behind what she said, but in the last season, they writers just made her into another dumb blonde (it pains me to say that :( ). Anyway, despite these facts, Green Acres was a great show, the writing was brilliant, and all the characters were endearing. Bye for now! cindysong 02-21-2005, 02:35 PM Second and third runner-ups are Uncle Joe and Sam Drucker. Sam talks too much, too quickly. Uncle Joe has the personality of a treestump gilligan fanatic 02-23-2005, 08:43 PM I like both Joe and Sam. Sean50 03-24-2005, 11:57 PM I never liked Eb...he always came across as a snotty kid. Inca 03-29-2005, 12:09 AM Oliver's mother was my least favorite... TripperFan 03-29-2005, 12:12 AM Oliver's mother was a bitch, but I liked it when they would make her look foolish so I've got to say I liked that so, it would be LISA'S mother for me as least favorite. People didn't like Mr. Haney because you weren't supposed to! He was the town weasle!! You have to have a hated character to round it out! Haney rocked in my opinion! :D JohnRittersHappyWife 04-22-2005, 02:38 AM The little girl who came on near the end of the series (cannot remember her name) was the only character who annoyed me. I liked Fred a lot: Fred: "How is that beautiful, little Mrs. of yours?" Oliver: "Oh, she's fine. How's your wife?" Fred: "Oh, why'd you have to bring her up for?" I also liked Sam Drucker, Oliver's mother, Eb, etc. I do agree that Lisa got very dumb in the last season...remember in the first season she was pretty bright? (smarter than her husband, that's for sure!) Lisa is my favorite character though; Eb and Mr. Haney closely behind. I think, excluding the little girl, all of the characters were wonderful. grnacrsfan 04-22-2005, 11:58 PM The little girl you are referring to was named Lori. She came in for about three or four episodes in the last season for who knows why. While she didn't annoy me, I saw no purpose for her being there. Anyway, TTFF! Jack1000 05-24-2005, 11:41 PM Guys, I vote for Oliver's Mother. I thought it was mean the way she treated Oliver. Jack spawndude 07-16-2005, 03:32 AM Another vote for Ollies mother TV DVD Fan 07-26-2005, 10:38 AM Haney is funny and meant to be annoying, but always makes me want to pull every hair outa my head. I like it alot better when he's not in an episode, but when he isn't the show isn't as funny. When he's in it, its funny. So I like him, but I don't all at the same time. Pat Buttram is a very convincing actor. I think he could be best described as the best character on a sitcom you love to hate. pat kooky12 10-17-2005, 02:43 PM Between Arnold, Eleanor, Alice & Bertram, and Mignon, there was enough of a fine animal cast in Green Acres. Why did they devote episodes to this duck ? He was just irritating - taking over Oliver's bath (unclean, too - yechh!), and making Oliver look for him in a storm. Lori was OK. She entered Hooterville when the Douglases decided to host 4 underprivileged kids, incl. Lori, on the farm for a week. But Lori strayed from the train when it left with the other kids, so she stayed a while longer. lyron 11-23-2005, 01:53 PM I vote for Mr. Haney, he got old too fast. Can't see how anyone doesn't like Fred Ziffel or Hank Kimball. As someone else mentioned, Mr. Wheeler was pretty lame, but it was cool when he was around because Oliver could call him a mallethead. Wasn't crazy about Joe Carson either, but he did deliver a good one every now and then: Joe: "What's your name?" Oliver: "Douglas. Oliver Wendell Douglas." Joe: "Douglas Oliver Wendell Douglas? You got enough names for two fellers." > Nevertheless, the funniest scene with Arnold I recall was > when Sam Drucker had a display of something with the name > Gourmet in it, but he spelled it GOORMAY on his sign. Then > Fred Z. and Arnold come in, Arnold grunts a few times and > Fred says, "Arnold says ya ain't got gourmet spelled right." Outstanding scene. Absolutely outstanding. B Miss Lisa 11-29-2005, 06:41 PM When Lori was on GA she didn't irritate me, but to me she just didn't seem to fit in with the others. ptcruiserfan2004 02-01-2007, 08:40 PM Oliver's mother was my least favorite... Ditto, closely followed by Lori. AB 02-02-2007, 04:22 PM I never cared much for Hank Kimball, you wondered how he had enough sense to get up in the morning much less have a job. roseha 03-15-2007, 01:30 AM Agreed on Mr. Kimball. I love Mr. Haney because you wait to see what evil sleazy thing he's going to come up with, and he advances the plot. Whereas Mr. Kimball invariably makes it stop dead in its tracks with 5 minutes of pointless confusion. After all it's only a half hour show (actually slightly less) Zoneboy 03-15-2007, 03:44 AM Mr. Ziffel. He always wore the same clothes and was a scraggily old man, especially with that beard. I don't know what his wife Doris saw in him, but to me, HE'S UGLY!!1. That may be but Hank Patterson has a beautiful Niece http://www.the-planets.com/star-biography/Tea-Leoni-Biography-4.jpg T'ea Leoni AKA Mrs. David Duchovny TURBOCSX 03-17-2007, 04:34 PM wow! I didnt know he was her great uncle. Fred Ziffel was a great character. I wonder if Hank was really like fred or not. JamesMAnders 03-29-2007, 09:20 PM Sorry this is long. My brother use to play a game where a character had one bullet and could shoot any character on the same show and get away with it. We played with the character of Oliver Wendell Douglas and my brother always chose Eb to be the one shot. After I got done laughing I asked him what if he had two bullets. He said he would shoot Eb again! Haha. Personally I did not like Lisa. She is very pretty but just too dumb! mrs.gingerhinkley 04-01-2007, 12:27 PM I luv em all! richieonline 04-08-2007, 09:29 PM Loved the Ziffels but Haney did get on my nerves with that whiney cracky voice... the monroes are the winner of the least favorite character(s). Scoobiedoo30 04-09-2007, 03:19 PM I Luv them All comedyfreak 04-20-2007, 04:46 AM Mr. Kimball, he would never get to the point. TV_on_the_Porch 06-02-2007, 01:58 AM Brian Williams, Oliver's "junior law partner" in a few (but not few enough) early 1970 episodes. Awful, monotone delivery. Such a non-actor that I can't even muster the energy to look up is real name. I'm sure his list of credits is short. Zoneboy 06-02-2007, 02:02 AM Brian Williams, Oliver's "junior law partner" in a few (but not few enough) early 1970 episodes. Awful, monotone delivery. Rick Lenz (http://imdb.com/name/nm0502360/) TV_on_the_Porch 06-02-2007, 02:09 AM HAH! Well, I deserved that, didn't I? About as much talent evident in that role as the guy who played Lisa Hartman's brother in Tabitha--a guy who has a similar mile-long list of credits. catlover79 06-22-2007, 04:06 PM I don't have a least favorite either, but a little of certain characters could go a long way. Rezny@gmail.com 01-27-2011, 10:27 PM Two of my least favorite characters, were both played by the same actor,Robert Foulk. He played Mr.Trendall and Mr.Wheeler.Both characters were downright mean. |
