View Full Version : Post your all-time favorite episode here TJ 02-18-2000, 11:23 PM What is your all-time favorite episode of Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. and why? Gilligannut 08-08-2000, 02:08 PM All of them! i dunno. I just started watching it. rjrane 10-07-2000, 09:34 AM I think it was the episode where Sgt.Carter, so frustrated by the fact that Gomer actualy liked him, decided to quit being a drill instructor and get transfered to another camp. After Gomer and the others graduated boot camp,Sgt.Carter left for Camp Henderson in California. When there,he saw that his new platoon was the same platoon-who'd just left boot camp for infantry training. When Sgt.Carter saw Gomer he looked stunned as Gomer said, "Surprise,Sergant!Surprise,Surprise,Surorise!" Gomergirl 11-25-2000, 11:33 AM Any ep where he sings like an angel and where he has problems with girls! By his new album "When He Spoke"! I haven't yet but I will when the X-mas shopping in K-Mart has subsided. ------------------ Tell Aunt Bea that Gomer says "Hey". Richard 12-06-2000, 06:05 PM I liked when Duke was on leave, and his friends got him to do a stage-act in a nightclub. He got big laughs with all his jokes about Sgt.Carter. DUKE:Before he was a marine,he must have been in the van and storage business. His favorite expression is,"Move it!Move it!Move it!" Mayberry resident 01-20-2001, 11:11 PM I start laughing out loud whenever I think about the episode where Sgt. Carter travels back home to Wichita. Gomer accidentally gets trapped on the plane and he tries to hide from Sarge throughout the show. Sgt. Carter keeps getting quick glimpses of Gomer and thinks he's loosing his mind. Limly Gilbert 03-12-2001, 11:24 PM I love the episode where the photographers trick Gomer into poseing for a "Girlie" magazine, when Sgt Carter runs back into the barracks and opens that magazine and says "Wait A minute, I think That's Clarice" is my all time funnest TV line! I'm new to this site, I love it! EdBrownJr 04-09-2001, 12:36 AM I like the Welsh Rabbit episode where Gomer keeps having those dreams and sleepwalks and yells at Sgt Carter. Also the sing a song for papa episode where he the nightclub owner wants Gomer to sing that song everynight. ------------------ GET OUT OF MY GARAGE!!! DarleneIllyria 04-09-2001, 12:40 AM I would have to say my fave episode is the one they are showing now. Gomer has his foot stuck in this silver trophy boot. It is hilarious! OMG! Now Carter has it on his foot! LOL [This message has been edited by Jenny (edited 04-09-2001).] Loo Ann Poovie 04-16-2001, 10:06 AM My favorite episode would have to be "The Show Must Go On" It's the one where Gomer has to sing in front of the President, and when he finds out he loses his voice. He ends up regaining his confidence and sings at the Lincoln Memorial before he sings "The Impossible Dream" with an orchestra! I love the way he sings! ------------------ Jenny*Jenny Austin Tripper 08-16-2001, 04:54 AM I love them all.. it is the ONLY show I like & think is funny before I was born.. * the golden boot episodes * the friendly freddy episodes * when gomer had to drive a military guy ..sct. carter had to give direction. * gomer gets a dog for lou-anne * the bank robbers that become good with gomers help and open a resturant. * when sgt. carter couldn't yell for 24 hours because of a bet.. * when gomer can tell when it was going to rain.. with that little dance. * gomer & carter go on a survival test and gain 15 pounds, because gomer knows how to live in the woods. * the mob guys love gomer singing * gomer finds in china town a undercover gambling .. in the back of a resturant .. favorite line: someone on the phone asks a chineese guy " for Gomer Pyle".. and chineese guys thinks it is a horse and says "What Track?" I love that show. marmalade 08-19-2001, 12:26 AM I like the pilot where Gomer first joins the marines, and the one where he wrecks Carter's car. [This message has been edited by marmalade (edited 09-06-2001).] TVLanFan 08-24-2001, 03:24 PM I think I like just about all of the GP episodes...I can watch this show any time it's on, and I don't mind any of the episodes. Several favorites come to mind (most of which have already been listed)... When Carter goes on furlough to Wichita and Gomer gets trapped on the plane.Carter keeps seeing Gomer in Wichita and thinks he's losing his mind (I love when Carter peeks up into the attic and there's Gomer, in a nightshirt, holding a candle and stretching out and yawning!) Hilarious! When Gomer poses for a photographer and has pictures taken (alone). Later the photographer inserts several beautiful girls into the picture and makes it look like they're all over Gomer. Of course, Carter wants in on the action, and wants to know where Gomer spends his Sunday afternoons. Boy, was Carter ever disappointed... The ep when Gomer gets his foot stuck in the boot booby prize. The ep where Gomer is selected to train a guard dog (Gomer changes the dog's name from "Killer" to "Limly Gilbert", and the dog turns out to be a pussycat, except when Gomer himself is attacked). The one where Carter has to not lose his temper for 24 hours...he drives miles off the base and climbs a mountain and starts screaming at the top of his lungs! Also, I love the ep where Gomer has to paint the Marine Corp Mobile Command Post (camoflage colors, green, beige and black) and 3 hippies (Rob Reiner among them) help him. They paint their half of the vehicle all psychadelic colors with flowers and peace signs all over it...Gomer then complains that "no one will recognize this as a Mobile Command Post" to which the hippie (Moondog) replies, "well, that's the idea, ain't it?". That was great!! ("Hey, you're parking on the daisies, man") Oh yeah, forgot one other favorite...the one where Gomer makes a call on a pay phone, and a bunch of change pours out, and he tries to return it to the phone company, who thinks Gomer's some kind of nut!! Great show!! [This message has been edited by TVLanFan (edited 08-24-2001).] classic_tv_fan 11-22-2001, 02:59 AM I tend to especially like all of the ones in which Gomer decides to put in a transfer request for whatever reason and Sargent Carter, invariably, ends up realizing just how much he would miss his favorite knucklehead not being in his platoon! The one episode, in particular, that stands out is the one in which Gomer is deciding whether or not to re-enlist in the Marines and Sargent Carter lines Gomer up with an apartment, new clothes, and a job in order to entice him to go back into civilian life. The end results are hilarious! reaness 06-30-2002, 07:16 PM Hi Everyone I know it been awhile since someone answered this one, but since I'm new on the list, I would like to put in my two cents. My favorie episode is Sergeant of the Week. I just laugh myself silly everytime I see this one. It is so funny when Sergeant Carter brings Gomer the apple, sugarcubes, someting to wrack the flies with, a brush to cromb his hair and not realizing all these things are really for a dying horse. And the look on his face, when the Lt. handed him that horse's pill was price less. At the end was good to when Gomer decided to do all the things that Sergeant Carter did for him. Even though Sergeant Carter wasn't to thilled about it. I was also glad that Sergeant Carter was choosen Sergeant of the week, because of his devotion to a dumb animal even though he misunderstood and thought it was Gomer that was dying. By far I thought this was a great and veryfunny eposide. Irene:D Gomer and Lou-Ann Forever PS I hope this makes sense. I kind of wrote it fast StarshipTrooper 07-19-2002, 08:36 PM A lot of great episodes have already been mentioned, but one of my favorites is the one where Carter, frustrated by his car's low gas mileage, first offers to sell the car to Hacker, but he doesn't have all of the money to pay for it, so Carter sells it to Gomer. Upset about being snubbed, Hacker, with help from Cpl. Jensen, start siphoning gas into the car at night. Then, when Gomer starts telling Carter the great gas mileage he's getting, Carter comes up with a story about how he can handle not having a car, but Bunny has blisters on her feet because she now has to walk everywhere. Of course, Gomer sells the car back to Carter. When Hacker finds out, he and Jensen start siphoning the gas out of the car at night, and Carter now is getting less mileage than ever. This is without a doubt one of the funniest episodes.:D :D Earl J Waggedorn 11-04-2002, 06:57 PM I like the ones when they are in maneuvers and Gomer becomes the hero. A recent one is when Gomer keeps getting captured and he eventually captures dozens of enemies, wearing a disguise. Another one that comes to mind is the survival training when everyone loses weight except for Gomer and Carter because of Gomer's hunting and fishing skills. bb25 12-23-2002, 01:15 AM Well, I have seen maybe 3 quarter's of this show altogether, and can't really name a favorite episode - none of them really stand out...but, I can say that I like the black & white episodes better... rlm1626 09-22-2003, 11:40 PM I was thinking of the very episode that Starshiptrooper named. That has to be my favorite. I laugh so hard every time i see that one. The prank itself is one that really could be done to someone. Zoneboy 09-24-2003, 03:21 AM My favorite is Welsh Rarebit (not rabbit) that episode is probably the funniest one of all. Others I like are: The one where Pyle & Carter team up for a survival test and Gomer catches the trout with his keyring & the pheasant with a snare. The one where Carter gets 50 yard line seats to a football game and gets crushed by one of the players is another favorite. roni4319 01-15-2005, 11:22 AM I agree this was one of the best!!!! Okay, that's enough! I could go on and on! What a great show! Veronica M. Cunningham http://www.Number1Superfood-OPRAHshow.com "'Success is helping others be successful who want it bad enough!" AB 09-18-2007, 04:09 PM That one with the wrecking ball is one of my favorites too. bfuller07 01-20-2008, 11:42 PM One of my favorite episodes has too be the one where Gomer runs into his old friend Moose, who happens to be a big time football player. He gives Gomer and Carter bench passes to the big game, but Carter has trouble getting into the stadium, and ends up paying his way into the game. omg65 01-21-2008, 12:53 PM Always Chasing Gomers Gomer Pyle the Welsh Rarebit Fiend The episode where Hacker bets Carter he cannot lose his temper towards Pyle for a certain legnth of time. Lee G 01-24-2008, 12:20 PM There are many great episodes, I have to also mention the Welsh Rarebit one. The writers were clever with this episode, figuring out a way to have Gomer mouth off at Sgt. Carter. This episode is very amusing. Another good one is Gomer The Recruiter. The interaction between Gomer and Carter in this episode is very funny. Jim Nabors and Frank Sutton were absolutely perfect in their roles, they made a great team. Gomer Pyle USMC is one of the funniest sitcoms of all time. There are many sitcoms that are more silly rather than funny, Gomer Pyle is one that's genuinely funny. Well written, well acted, well done. jml1231 02-22-2008, 01:03 AM I won't rank them because of lack of time. In no certain order... Survival of the Fattest The Order of the Lead Boot The Jet Set Trip to Las Vegas Sgt Carter Dates a Pyle Gomer on the Beach...'Sunday is Fun Day for Gomer' Ghost of Gomer...Sgt Carter's trip to Wichita Sgt Carter guys Hacker's car BarneyFife 03-08-2008, 03:19 AM I like the episode where Gomer and Lou Ann try to help the two con man open up a Diner, not knowing that the two man are gonna try to blast their way into the Bank next door. tlc38tlc38 03-22-2019, 09:09 PM “Private Ralph Skunk” is my favorite. SarahBellum 08-10-2021, 04:36 PM Wow, hard to pick one. Here are a few I like: The episode where Carter goes home for the weekend to get away from Gomer, except Gomer accidentally goes with him. The episode where Gomer drives Carter to the airport in Carter's car which gets stolen and eventually destroyed by a wrecking ball. The episode where Gomer lost the wedding ring he was holding for Purcell, apparently in one of the loaves of bread he was baking for Sgt Hacker. gomer-pyle 09-15-2021, 10:40 AM Its impossible for me to just pick one. However, here are a few on my favorites-(the ones with ** are must watches) The Pilot Episode from Andy Griffith** Private Ralph Skunk** Nobody Loves a Sergeant Pay Day Survival of the Fattest The Case of the Marine Bandit Sergeant Carter's Farewell to His Troops They Shall Not Pass Old Man Carter The Jet Set** Sergeant of the Guard Gomer the M.P. Gomer Minds His Sergeant's Car** Gomer Pyle, POW Gomer the Carrier** The Borrowed Car Gomer Pyle, Super Chef Gomer the Card Shark Gomer, the Welsh Rarebit Fiend** The Crow Ganef To Watch A Thief The Price of Tomatoes** Chef For a Day Car For Sale The Booty Prize Come Blow Your Top Goodbye Camp Handerson, Hello Sergeant Carter** My Gomer Pyle Website (https://www.angelfire.com/tn2/churchofgodgateway/) KurtfromPitts 09-15-2021, 11:03 AM The one where Carter has a bet with Hacker as to whether Carter holds his temper. Yong Fang 09-16-2021, 08:13 AM Jim Nabors was a great guy and the cast of the show was excellent but the set up of the series was silly and very unrealistic. Lots of suspension of disbelief (like Puke going through Basic in the same camp where he stayed his entire enlistment, plus only being an E-1 for five years…. Saying that, an episode I liked was a first season black and white where the platoon paired off and sent off to the woods to survive with no rations and minimum gear. Carter as usual saw Gomer as a screw up and so Carter paired off with Gomer to keep watch over him. Actually Gomer being a country boy and living in that environment knew a lot more thanCarter about animals (they ran across a skunk which freaked Carter out but Gomer picked the animal up and said it was harmless unless it was spooked. Gomer was also proficient in hunting, trapping and fishing. Carter was from a big city (just by his accent) and knew far less than Gomer about the wild. Carter was even digging a deep hole to get thimbles of water while Gomer just followed a stream to a river and “McGyvered” a batch of freshly caught fish. Carter was worthless in this element. Came back to camp after a few days for a weigh in, which was the point of the exercise, to see how much weight the men would lose being out in the elements with nothing. Carter and Gomer gained weight, and was accused by the officer in charge of smuggling rations and cheating on the test. It was a first season episode, don’t know the name but the Hank Williams song “Country Folks can Survive” seemed appropriate enough. |
