Great article about TAGS from "Modern Drunkard" magazine.

The Andy Griffith show's favorite themes for laughs seems to me to have been alcohol. Otis Campbell (the only married one) went on binge drunks at least once a week, to the point of sleeping in the town jail. Barney got drunk by accident on several occasions, and even Aunt Bea and her old southern women friends were getting blasted by a "Miracle Tonic". Most of Andy's arrests come from the moonshiners who lived in the hill country nearby.
(Ernest T. Bass was probably on Meth then.)
Why was moonshine/alcohol such a central topic for laughs?
