View Full Version : New York Daily News TV Critic says the Untold Story of Mork and Mindy on NBC tonight
TVFactFan 04-04-2005, 08:05 PM is UNWATCHABLE-lol I will watch anyway since they are no NBA Games scheduled. He also said that the things revealed about Robin Williams was better left Untold. I disagree because since I know he was a cocaine user, that explains his bizarre behavior on the show.
CliffClavin 04-04-2005, 11:41 PM Well I loved all of it.
TripperFan 04-04-2005, 11:44 PM So did I! I think they all portrayed the characters very well!
CliffClavin 04-04-2005, 11:45 PM I'm glad that i'm back 73 day's is too long to be away from here.
TripperFan 04-04-2005, 11:46 PM Its too damned addicting! I haven't been getting anything else done much since getting hooked on this site!
Ohio8 04-05-2005, 01:05 PM I watched and enjoyed it too! However, there were several errors made: The "Happy Days" 1978 episode that started it all did not have Laverne in it. I don't remeber Fred's music store being in any of the eppies that were aired after Conrad Janis and Elizabeth Kerr came back to "M&M."...and a couple of others.
In addition, the movie had aliases for the writers and other staff members. And, the censors didn't have that much trouble with Robin's slang. If anything, they pretty much worked with Robin and fought ABC brass. I've read that much of the censoring dealt with the show's sponsors. Example: Robin wanted to do a joke about kangoaroo-meat hamburgers, and McDonald's was a sponsor, so that one (joke) was killed.

CliffClavin 04-05-2005, 02:10 PM Well I still loved it.
snl75 04-05-2005, 03:47 PM i enjoyed it too i just hope that some of robins fans dont turn aginst him because maybe they didnt know up until this movie aired that he once had some problems with drugs as far as im concerned that was /is his own bisnuess and nobody elses but you would be suprised how many fans turn aginst a cleb because people find out they have or had problems i just hope that dosent happen to robin

Laverne was in the Mork and Mindy Pilot along with Fonzie. So that was not an error
della street 04-05-2005, 09:35 PM Sorry to disagree, but as it was portrayed in the movie it seemed as though the first episode with Mork on Happy Days had Laverne appear. In actuality it had Richie. In the Pilot episode of Mork and Mindy, Laverne did appear however.
Pitooey 04-05-2005, 10:08 PM i enjoyed it too i just hope that some of robins fans dont turn aginst him because maybe they didnt know up until this movie aired that he once had some problems with drugs as far as im concerned that was /is his own bisnuess and nobody elses but you would be suprised how many fans turn aginst a cleb because people find out they have or had problems i just hope that dosent happen to robin
First I just want to say that I enjoyed the movie.
Second When I use to see the show in it's original run I had an inkling that Robin had to be using something. He was just too out there in LA LA Land........
As a fan I've always liked Robin even though there were times I was hoping that he would make it through and not have a bad overdose or something like Belushi.
I was hoping that the movie would talk about how he broke up his marriage by having an affair with his baby sitter. But I guess they couldn't have a 4 hour mini series.
snl75 04-05-2005, 11:46 PM i think i only remember seeing one ep where his drug use was really obvius it was in ether season 2 or 3 and it was an ep where mork thought a house was hunted the ep could havee been extra funny but it was just avrage due to the ffact that robins normally impcable timing was way way off and he looked like he had not slept for a week i think that was the only time i have ever seen a lackluster preformance from him in any media
snl75 04-05-2005, 11:48 PM sorry for so many misspellings i think i must have been typing too fast.
sonyab 04-05-2005, 11:58 PM Been a robin williams fan all my life.. Grew up watching him.. Loved Mork and Mindy! Last night's movie was awesome!!!! I was really impressed with the actor. He looked and acted like Robin so well! I was cracking up because he was so funny. I forgot that he wasn't Robin Williams.. It was hard watching him go through his rough times. Poor Robin.. I still love and respect him! Nobody is perfect we all make mistakes. Especially when we are younger.
Wow I didn't know he knew John Bulushi and were friends. When John died wow Robin was there the night before.. I bet Robin felt so incredibly guilty.. It wasn't your fault Robin! You didn't know that was going to happen. That head honcho guy frank was it? Or Fred? ruined the Mork and Mindy show!! ARGH!!!! When his wife said to him just don't sleep with anybody else it seemed like she was joking and then when Robin had this serious look on his face she has this surprised look and then walked away upset. So he must have cheated on her then.. Robin was in the phone booth talking to someone and a mob of fans just came up and scared him.. Geez! that's awful.. Great movie!!! I wonder if Robin was watching it and I wonder what he thought.. If he saw it it was probably hard to watch.
TripperFan 04-06-2005, 12:27 AM i enjoyed it too i just hope that some of robins fans dont turn aginst him because maybe they didnt know up until this movie aired that he once had some problems with drugs as far as im concerned that was /is his own bisnuess and nobody elses but you would be suprised how many fans turn aginst a cleb because people find out they have or had problems i just hope that dosent happen to robin
I think he's always been really up front about his past drug and alcohol use. I've seen him discuss it or make a crack about it on lots of talk shows.
Hey - doesn't change my opinion of him one bit - I've always loved the guy. Couldn't believe the rapid-fire wit he had. It was like watching the WB Tazmanian Devil live in person every time he stepped into a scene or was on Carson.
TripperFan 04-06-2005, 12:30 AM I was hoping that the movie would talk about how he broke up his marriage by having an affair with his baby sitter. But I guess they couldn't have a 4 hour mini series.
Whoa! I never heard about that one! Yeah, that's never good!!!
DetectiveGriffin 04-06-2005, 07:09 AM That was a movie Robin Williams was in called. "The World According to Garp."
It wasn't something he did in real life.
sonyab 04-07-2005, 05:39 PM Oh no! I have a crush on Robin Williams again! I had it off and on for years.. Now it's back! Ah no.. :)
sonyab 04-09-2005, 04:16 PM Why didn't they show the head honcho's Franks's face? I wonder if Robin still feels guilty to this day about what happened to John Bulushi.. I haven't seen the movie Popeye in years but if and when I do see it I'm going to be sad because now I know he had marital problems while he was working on Popeye.. :(
Ohio8 04-09-2005, 09:31 PM I read the Andy dougan book that the show was based on, and it also said that Fonzie and Laverne were in the 1978 "My Favorite Morkan" episode ofHappy Days.
Dr. Thong 04-09-2005, 09:52 PM I haven't watched the show in years, but I don't remember Elizabeth Kerr coming back after being fired. I know Conrad Janis returned as Fred during the second or third season, but I don't ever recall having seen Cora after the first season.
And yes, there were no scenes in the music store after Fred's return. If I remember correctly, the music store had been sold so Fred could go on tour with the symphony at the beginning of season two.
The show never recovered creatively or in the ratings after that first season. The changes imposed by the network irreparably damaged a fine show. The stuff about "attracting younger viewers" and "demographics" was B.S.: I was 12 when the show premiered and I thought the show was just fine as it was. I can distinctly remember during season two thinking the show was not the same anymore.
If anyone wants to read about John Belushi, I recommend the book Wired by Bob Woodward. A very telling tale of how fame, abuse and a downward spiral sent Belushi into a drug tailspin. On the other hand, his death wasn't in vain, as it inspired Robin Williams to clean up his life. His film career took off after that and he never looked back.
TVFactFan 04-09-2005, 11:58 PM I read the Andy dougan book that the show was based on, and it also said that Fonzie and Laverne were in the 1978 "My Favorite Morkan" episode ofHappy Days.
That Book was WRONG, Laverne and Fonzie was in the Mork and Mindy Pilot, not the Happy Days Episode-"My Favorite Orkan". Mork appeared by himself in My Favorite Orkan
robyrob 06-06-2005, 02:48 PM Solomon is right about which episode had Laverne & the Fonz, and
NBC is re-airng this movie toMORROW night :D :D :D
