I found a recent article on the 1988 murders of Veronica Jefferson, Rachel Raver, and Warren Fulton. It says that a criminal director or an Illinois justice school is studying the possibility that the cases might be connected to a bisexual patron of a gay nightclub in Washington, DC.

As you will recall, UM aired a segment on the 1988 murder of Veronica "Tina" Jefferson in November of 1989. Her case was brought up again in a 2001 episode about the December 1988 murders of Warren Fulton and Rachel Raver, because a DNA testing confirmed that the Jefferson's unknown killer also killed Fulton and Raver.

The new article (which briefly mentions UM) is lengthy, and no one has been arrested in connection with the murders, but it's worth reading.

When I first watched the episode that showed the link between all three cases, it was a jaw dropper! :eek2:

How in the world the police couldnt see a similar pattern between these cases earlier is beyond me. Like was mentioned in the article, the red shoes and neatly folded clothes that were found by the victims should have been a dead giveaway.

Maybe they did consider the possibility that they were connnected, but didn't want to acknowledge it so soon, as it would likely have compromised the investigation. Typicially, certain info is withheld from the press, especially in the event that someone confessed to the crimes, and made some mention of the red shoes and folded clothes (or any info would be known only to the cops and the killer).

Right. I've been watching a lot of coverage on the BTK investigation, and the police knew that there was a serial killer for years before they publically acknowledged it. It seems like a very delicate balance.

Very fascinating case, though. I'm betting we'll see it solved in the next few years.

I can see how authorities didn't link them. Stuff like folded clothes is considered extremely secondary, in relation to type of victim and how the crime evolved, etc. Those cases are completely diverse in those regards.

I couldn't agree more. Veronica Jefferson really was attractive. It's just awful that she died way too soon. Had she lived, she would been 41 years old right now. She was only 24 when her life was taken. :(

I still get chills remembering the 1989 UM case, with Veronica's father (at least I think it was him) saying how her killer couldn't run forever and they were going to catch up to him, as the re-enactment showed her 'killer' running down a hill, gun in hand, in the moonlight. I was really sad when the case ended with the sketch and no update, especially since it was the last segment of that particular show.

They caught BTK after decades of hiding, and I do believe they'll catch this guy.

Actually, her father wasn't in the 1989 segment. He was, however, in the 2001 segment. In fact, none of her family members were interviewed in the 1989 segment, which I thought was unusual.

It was actually a cop (in the 1989 segment) who expressed confidence in finding the killer. When the case was featured in November of 1989, it had been a year and a half since Veronica Jefferson was murdered. I recall the cop saying to the effect that just because a year has passed doesn't mean the killer has gotten away with the crime. He also pointed out he and his fellow detectives would not stop looking for the murderer.

As I recall in the '89 segment, one of the other detectives considered the theory that Veronica's killer may have been someone with whom she had a relationship, one that even those close to her were unaware of. And for this reason, his identity was never known. Although it's just a theory, it sounds plausible.
