Since Fleet mentioned the 1966-71 Mopar on the Volkswagen Picture Thread, I thought it'd be a good idea to show off some Chryslers, Imperials, Plymouths, Dodges, DeSotos, and maybe some Fargoes. I'm going to start with a pair of 1972 Plymouth Furys.

And this is the 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird:

Now the rest of you should post some more, especially from movies & television shows.

Uh-oh, a police car... run!

All right, a Mopar thread!

The one on the top is a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T with 426-Hemi engine (425 hp.). Depending on the axle ratio, it would do 0-60 mph ranging from the high 4s to the high 5s, and mid-13-second 1/4 miles at 105 mph. With 3.23 gears, these cars could top out at well over 140 mph. Pretty heavy cars with the big Hemi engine with a weight of right around 4,000 lbs.

The bottom car is a 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A, a one-year only mode with a 340-6 Pack engine (275 hp [purposely underrated]), and could run 0-60 times of 5.8 seconds and 1/4 miles of 14.3 secs @ 99 mph (on '60s tires).

Maybe my favorite muscle car (along with the '69 Charger):
1969 Dodge Coronet R/T 440 Magnum. Wow!
Can seat 5-6 people and still run low 14/high 13-sec 1/4 miles.

1957 Chrysler 300-C. 392-Hemi, 375 horsepower (390 hp. was also available).
126" wheelbase, 4,300 lbs, 0-60 mph in 7.7 secs. and a 140+ mph top speed.
Nice fins, real leather interior and room for 6.

BTW, don't let anyone tell you that all American cars can't handle. Plenty were made that could. For instance, here is a 1957 Plymouth Fury taking a curve at 90 mph...

Yeah, what's that make... about 8 car threads in 6 years of SO!
If anything, we need more! More interesting than posting a thread, "Are you bored?"

I think compared to today's cars (which all look alike) the '57 Chrysler is a work of art! Nice lines, big whitewall tires, sculptered body, impressive front end (with a real grille, not just slots like most modern cars), an actual trunk, not made of 90% plastic, and attractive dashboard (again, not just a big piece of plastic as on modern cars) and a proven, reliable, powerful engine.

I can't see how anyone could look around at all the boxy, ugly, vision-blocking SUVs and call a long, low, sleek '50s car "ugly!"

That one's so-so. But I prefer the 400-horsepower, rear wheel-drive Mopars.
Like this one (1970 Dodge Charger R/T w/426-Hemi):

I guess one of those little 4-cyl. FWD ones would be good for a traveling salesman who drives 3,000 miles/week. But, for me, cars are a hobby and I love the powerful ones!

Oh don't get me wrong...there are some cars out today that are just nasty *cough*the back end of a Monte*cough*. Scion for example. I don't understand why anyone would want to drive a box, but to each his own I guess.

I've never been a fan of huge boats with big fins. I like smaller types.

Nice fins on the rear of this '57 Chrysler 300-C! :D

They're not that big. Instead of calling them "huge boats," I would call them sleek, beautiful-riding, comfortable, smooth-running, powerful and quiet full sized cars. And if you've even rode in one, you'd know what I mean. :)

True, that was their advertising slogan back then, but by 1959 it was the Full-Size GM's that truly had the forward look. The only features that were typical of 1950's cars on those cars were the panoramic winshields and tailfins.

Anyway, getting back to Mopars, here's that 1971 Satellite with the homemade grille I posted a while earlier.

Yes, by 1959, GM had caught up with Chrysler as far as styling. I think GM (along with Ford) were caught by surprise with the '57-'58 Chryslers.
The 1959 Buick Electra (photo below) is admired by many.

That's an interesting grille. It's a kind of customizing that actually doesn't look extreme like some did.

Here is a photo of my former Mopar, a 1966 Dodge Dart GT with 273 V-8. Being a certified car guy, I modified it (dual exhausts, 4-bbl carb, aluminum intake manifold, transmission shift kit, and lower rear axle). I timed 0-60 mph in about 8 seconds, which is pretty good for what was basically a family-type car with a small, mildly-tuned V-8.
I showed this pic to John Schneider (of "Dukes of Hazzard" fame) and he signed it for me!

A 1968 Dodge Coronet Super Bee. The 335-horse 383 big-block was standard; the 425-horse 426-Hemi was optional.
This car was the twin of the highly successful Plymouth Road Runner. Both cars, with the standard engine and a few options were very affordable when new, costing less than $3,500. Try to find a good one for that price now!

A very nice 1968 Dodge Charger R/T equipped with the optional 426-Hemi. Car like this today sell for big bucks (I've seen $85,000 and even higher). I still would love to own this one! Would be fun to scare away the numerous imports out here.
Car & Driver (Nov., 1967) tested a Charger equipped as above and got these times:
(With a 3.23 rear axle and weighing 4,035 lbs)
0-30 mph............... 1.7 secs.
0-40 mph............... 2.5
0-50 mph............... 3.5
0-60 mph............... 4.8
0-70 mph............... 6.0
0-80 mph............... 8.5
0-90 mph............... 10.0
0-100 mph............. 12.5
0-110 mph............. 15.4
1/4 mile................. 13.5 secs @ 105 mph
Passing: 40-60 mph. 2.3 secs
........... 50-70 mph. 2.5
........... 30-70 mph. 4.3
Top speed.............. 156 mph.
Fuel mileage............ 9-12 mpg.
Speed in gears,
@ rpm (mph) 1st...... 63 mph @ 6500 rpm
................. 2nd...... 107 mph @ 6500 rpm

The sad thing is, in the Rental Car industry, something like that would be considered a Large car today!!

However, if you want real large cars, here's a 1972 Imperial LeBaron.
