I remember last year when we all feared cancellation, what with NBC cutting back on episodes and hardly any episodes airing from late Nov. thru Jan.

And then.........out of the blue, comes Jeff Zucker in late Jan. 2004 saying "we are renewing AD........I personally like the show".

That's all it took!
The ratings drop didn't matter, NBC cutting back the episodes didn't matter...........Mr. Zucker bypassed all that and renewed us.

But now we face the same, if not a worse, dilemma. The 18-49 age group has lost 50%............from 8% of tv's in use to 4% of tv's last week. THAT is a very HUGE drop.
It seems like the only way we stay on air is another "personal" preference from Mr. Zucker. So far.......we haven't heard it.
But NBC is about to fall to fourth place behind FOX and I don't know if Mr. Zucker has the pull to pull a personal preference. Business is business.

So I have my dvd's of past seasons. I can watch those any time I want.
It was a nice run.......probably a year longer than it should have gone......thanks to Mr. Zucker.

Peace.

I just checked my yahoo tv listings for next Sunday and saw "Law and Order" on at 8, 9 and 10 o'clock. 3 hours of Law and Order are more preferred than 2 hours of it and us?

Why aren't we on at 8 as usual?

Extreme Makeover is still on.......so is Cold Case and Desperate Housewives.

So the "story" that we are being pulled for Feb. sweeps or because there are specials and Grammy's and the Super Bowl........ I just don't buy.

Why aren't the other shows being "pulled" for the same reason?

Like I said earlier............."farewell".

Peace.

Ad returns in March so stop being so negative and Yes all those shows are still around next week but their reruns I think .All you're doing is putting me down and I'm kinda tired of you putting me down I don't need to be put down at all you're kinda made this site unfun for me to post at with your negativity..

I have been holding back for quite sometime to tell you this but I'm not anymore..

The actors and actresses do need a break so they don't get burned out by working on making Ad enjoyable for you and the rest of its fanbase ..Mel

It is not good news:
I will let "tvobscurities" analyze it for us, he/she seems to have a better understanding of ratings than anyone (including me) on this board.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Here is the early report from tv.zap2it.com:
At 8 p.m. CBS got a 10.6/16 from "Cold Case," though ABC picked up some ground with the 9.2/14 for "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." FOX grabbed third with "The Simpsons" (5.7/9) and "Arrested Development" (4.1/6), edging NBC's "American Dreams." The WB got a 2.3/3 from "Charmed."
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I can only guess we came somewhere in between 3 million and 6 million viewers (possibly our LOWEST for the year).......I don't even WANT to try to guess the 18-49 group. I will let "tvobscurities" fill us in on that one.

As I said in the first post here......"farewell American Dreams"

Anyone expressing anger toward me or any other fan should redirect their anger towards the 7 million or more, over 50% viewership, who have STOPPPED supporting us by not watching the show. But not really at them, per se, but at the FACT that they decided to leave.......leaving our ratings drastically low.

Peace.

 I agree w Storywriter. Could you please chill out about AD being dropped? If it does it does, but don't rush it. Let us enjoy the show w out the negative feedback every week. Thank You.

I agree. There's no denying that there should be a concern if the ratings aren't there anymore. It's not like if we don't talk about it, everything is okay. Some people act like they'll commit suicide when the show finally goes off the air. Shows get cancelled, it happens. If you enjoy the show, just continue to get the enjoyment you've gotten out of watching it. When you click on a thread with the subject title "Farewell American Dreams" you should already guess that it won't be something positive. Anyone who's upset by these posts, why do you keep reading them?

LuV2DreeM is simple being realistic. The series is in danger of being cancelled, and perhaps without a conclusion. We really do not know. The fact that NBC will not even give an episode count for this season is disturbing. On the other hand, episodes earlier this season were up from last season, if I recall correctly, the series is currently in the upper 50s for the season (out of, what, 120+ shows) and everyone knows NBC is having a lackluster season overall.

We can and should enjoy the episodes we are given for the rest of this season. To ignore the fact that the show may not come back next season, however, is seeing things through rose-colored glasses. We all love the show, we all watch the show, we all want to keep loving and watching the show. Sadly, we may not get the chance.

I can understand not wanting to think about the show being cancelled, but LuV2DreeM has every right to worry about it. I worry about it. I know other people who worry about it. Just do not read this topic or others like it if you do not want to worry, as vashti1999 suggested.

Thanks "tvobscurities"........I do feel kind of picked on. And for what? CARING.
But to be realistic.......these are talented actors/actresses.......so we will see them on other shows/movies if it does get cancelled.

But being the soft-hearted woman I am.....I kind of get sad thinking of the inevitable. A lot of shows don't even get more than one season. We are now completing our third. So I guess I can feel good about that.

Peace.

I didn't mean to offend or hurt you Luv2Dreem,and I realize and care that the show may be canclled. It is my favoriote show and I have been watching it since the begining. I just don't like to hear and see statistics on the show everyweek. I do have the right, though to read and post on any thread on this site. Even if I don't agree w the thread starter. Thank you.

So I'm sitting there trying to feel "good" about what has transpired in the last few weeks.

And then it came to me:

I'm NOT really feeling bad for the actors/actresses......they are a talented bunch and will undoubtedly get other parts if the show gets cancelled.....eventually. But in the meantime they each make 100,000's of dollars and won't be without food/shelter anytime soon.

So it must be ME that I'm feeling sorry for........it's my greed to have this show on tv that is the problem. Wanting something for ME.......WOW!

I don't like greed. Not in others......not in myself.

So there you go. If the show stays on.....I'm okay with it.....(more than okay, I must say)

If it goes off............I'm okay with that too.

Finally, some peace of mind.

Peace.

Don't worry alot of us will feel bad if and when it is cancelled. We can send postcards and reply to sites promoting the show, and just keep watching and enjoying the show while it is on.

Thanks for your nice words. I don't feel that you necessarily attacked me. I don't think any of us wants the show to be cancelled.

:) I'm glad we've cleared that up. I definitley don't want the show cancelled. It is really the only show I make sure to watch ever week. I hope we can continue to talk about the show on this site for a long time to come, but if we can't there is not much I can do.

That's why I bought the dvd's. I still watch AD.......every day!
So I think everyone should put their money where their mouth is and buy the dvd's. I don't know if that will help keep it on the air.........but it won't hurt.

That way you still get to see it...........and you are ABSOLUTELY immune from the effects of RATINGS.

I love it.

Peace.

All I can say is "I'm glad my husband doesn't post on here.....you'd chew him up"

I told him I was concerned about AD being cancelled and that we went from 13 million viewers to 6 million at times.

He said "it's a numbers game to them......the advertisers pay MORE money for more viewership". "If you lost some 7 million viewers......you're gonna lose the amount of money they would pay"

So that got me to thinking.........if we all send post cards or sign an online petition........WE are part of that 6 million that already WANT the show on.
And that's in the "best case scenario".......given that we ALL send post cards and NBC is flooded with some 6 million post cards.
I can't think they would keep us on air just to keep US from sending post cards.

It's the OTHER 7 million we are trying to get back or generate.......so how does that help the show's chances?

NBC must know it is US who watch the show that like it......and there are some 6 million of us. But apparently that is NOT enough for them. They would rather have 13 million, I guess.

I don't know. Too much thinking for me at times. Just glad I have the dvd's to watch, whatever happens.

Peace.

You know in the past shows have been cancelled and brought back due to viewers writing in to the networks. One example is Designing Woman. That show was cancelled but brought back due to so much mail sent in to the CBS studios wanting the show back and it lasted quite a long time. So, let's just wait and see what happens first. I have already sent my postcards to NBC and signed online petitions.

Yeah my mom got it for me for Christmas the DVD that is and it was 77 something. That's why I didn't make a big Christmas list and the older I get you run out what you like and since I'm a big TV watcher and my favorite shows come on DVD I want them to watch over and over something like MY Little Pony I grew up with that and its back again and Season 1 is on DVd and I watched 2 times already.

My mom was surprised I didn't get American Dreams first.I said I wanted too but you all kept telling me wait until your Birthday and when my birthday came around. They were like wait until Christmas now The DVD is still pricey in Best Buy it's still the price it was Christmas. It will never sell unless they drop the price.Mel

The price is still around $65-70 for the DVD and that is too much. They do need to cut the price back I believe. Also, I think you are right Storywriter about those two shows. I know almost for certain the latter show you mentioned was put back on due to people writing the networks.

Yeah I remember something in Tv Guide about them there was an address to write them and save the shows.I was about 16 at the time and loved both I wrote Tv Guide and it worked it returned.Party Of Five went from fall 94 until spring 2000 when it returned but I'm not sure how long My So called life lasted.Mel :)

I have to admit some might think the dvd's are a little too pricey. But there's alot of extra stuff on them. Maybe if you saw one (if your friend has one) you could find a way to afford them.

:D Maybye when I get my income tax check back I will break down and spurge.LOL I like your answer.I don't watch extras I just watch all the episodes.I'll watch an extra if a DVD has like a Music video I never see like The Princess Diaries 2 has Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" video.

I never get to see it so I watched it on the DVD. I get your point though rusyd we get a DVd when we can afford to like when we get paid ..Mel :)
