I didn't like reading when i was young but now i see that reading is very important cause having intelligence is the only way you're gonna survive in this cold world. Ignorant people for some reason don't think it's cool to read & go to school. How are you gonna survive if you're not smart? I know ya'll are gonna have somethin to say about me mentioning blacks but i'm gonna say it cause blacks have it the worst when it comes to peer pressure. This is a good thread you posted, Isiah. If I could do it over again, I could do it over again, I'll be nerd in high school. I was very quiet in school up until 8th grade. I got tired of being "sweet", and all of that. I just started talking more, turned into a class clown, when I got to high school, I just started skipping class because others were doing it. I started smoking blunts that were passed and everything. Because of that, I didn't graduate on time. I was a good student, but in high school, I was a follower, I tried to shed that quiet image. I graduated with the class the next year. I was trying to be down. One thing I never did was wear clothes that were with the trend. Could never afford it. And if you couldn't, people thought you were poor. Well, I don't care, because we were all going to the same school in the 'hood, it not like we were in Beverly Hills. Just because I never had a pair of $130 pair of Jordans, people thought I was poor, but it is none of their business what i have on my feet or on my back, cased closed. We are all there to learn. But you know what, those same people that were laughing, ain't doing a damn thang now, some of them are in jail.

yes, i have been to a school with a lot of african americans, i know what you mean. i have had many friends (girls) this has happen to. i feel so bad for them. its very depressing.

another thing that annoyed me was when an african american was really smart and tried, they were called "the whitest black person ever" I used to have friends who would cry when they were called that.

Penny Lane i commend Bill Cosby for having the guts to say what he had to say. Like i said, somebody that's black that has money like he does should've said it a long time ago. There's a lot of 70's black movies i haven't seen cause the majority of those movies are ignorant & degrading such as Dolemite movies, The Mack, Superfly. Pam Grier always had to get naked in her movies back then & that wasn't fair to her. There's a lot of blacks who praise those Dolemite movies & The Mack. What's cool about being a pimp & pimpin women? What's cool about being in a gang? What's cool about sellin drugs to your own people? I hated school because of the peer pressure.Everyone was just constantly trying to impress one another,when realistically,no one was worth it.I didn't drink,smoke or do drugs,and i didn't care if that made me 'uncool'.

What does rioting & burning down your neighborhood gonna solve? Blacks are the only race of people who do these ignorant things. Another example is rappers gettin into fights at The Source Awards & Vibe Awards. Do you ever hear about country singers & rock singers gettin into fights at music award shows? Do you ever hear about people gettin into fights & shooting each other at country singers concerts & rock singers concerts? No. This only happens at rappers concerts. Why is that? Blacks are ignorant people. Do you ever hear country singers & rock singers dissin each other on records? No. Rappers are the only ones who diss each other on records. If a rapper doesn't like another rapper, keep that s**t to yourself. The whole world doesn't have to know that certain rappers don't like each other. That's exactly why 2Pac & Biggie aren't alive today. 2Pac was a very ignorant person. I loved his music but he was ignorant. When he first got shot, how is he gonna blame Biggie for that? Then when he signed with Death Row records, he always dissed Biggie. He tried to get Biggie upset by saying he had sex with r&b singer Faith Evans who was Biggie's wife at the time. Faith said she never had sex with 2Pac. 2Pac should've kept his ass in prison cause he should've never let Suge Knight bail him out. That is sorta strange. "I'm gonna burn my neighborhood grocery store where my neighbor works and I buy all my groceries because a verdict over something that really didn't concern me pissed me off." Uh...okay.

I agree with your observations isiahthomas. I was quiet myself but I like to read and be informed about things that interest me. I've seen alot of that peer pressure when I was in high school but I never gave into it! I was very inhibited, introverted and not athletic. The interesting thing is that the few of my classmates that I've seen are doing 'just' o.k. I've seen one who was very popular dude because of his looks, walking the street with a shopping basket looking very haggertly!! So being popular in school ain't spit!!! Being popular or successfull after you graduate is where it's at. You're on your own! Not while you're still in school living with your folks! That's my opinion. :)

I think it is great that you are 25 years old and still waiting for the right man to come along in your life; hell, I wish I would had waited for the right one, but I did not. I think you have a pretty good and strong head on your shoulders and I think you should be very proud of yourself, I know if I was in your shoes I would be. :)

I hated it when I was in school cuz if girls went out with a guy especially
in high school you were peer pressured into sex and other stuff,and
there was also things among my classmates.Topics included vandalism
stealing,cheating,sex,drugs,and other things I can't name.

There are a lot of issues at work in the black community and one major one is what I call post traumatic slave disorder- people who still behave as if they are enslaved or are still affected by that whole enslavement experience. Every ethnic group has its infightings and ignorant people, however many black Americans have a victim mindset that blacks from other parts of the world who come here don't have. It's good for African Americans to do what they can to travel outside of the US if they can to be able to put what is going on here into perspective.

Many people are enslaved mentally and need to be set free, but like the Pavlovian dog who has been conditioned to not go outside of the gate, the gate has been opened to an extent and yet many are cowed and won't go past it.

And some of the entertainers who rap about and promote killing, mysogyny, drug use and trafficking, materialism and hedonism are a big part of the problem. So are leaders who behave more like pimps than responsible leaders. That's all I have to say on this issue.

I hated it when I was in school cuz if girls went out with a guy especially
in high school you were peer pressured into sex and other stuff,and
there was also things among my classmates.Topics included vandalism
stealing,cheating,sex,drugs,and other things I can't name.

No one ever tried to get me to sleep with them or anything else (Thank GOD), but even back then, I'd have told them to go jump off a damn bridge. Hell, ask my "boyfriend." He'll tell you what a prude I am. :lol:

It's sad that some girls have such low self-esteem that if a guy says "sleep with me" they just say yes whether they want to or not. Stand up for yourself, girl!

There are a lot of issues at work in the black community and one major one is what I call post traumatic slave disorder- people who still behave as if they are enslaved or are still affected by that whole enslavement experience. Every ethnic group has its infightings and ignorant people, however many black Americans have a victim mindset that blacks from other parts of the world who come here don't have. It's good for African Americans to do what they can to travel outside of the US if they can to be able to put what is going on here into perspective.

Many people are enslaved mentally and need to be set free, but like the Pavlovian dog who has been conditioned to not go outside of the gate, the gate has been opened to an extent and yet many are cowed and won't go past it.

And some of the entertainers who rap about and promote killing, mysogyny, drug use and trafficking, materialism and hedonism are a big part of the problem. So are leaders who behave more like pimps than responsible leaders. That's all I have to say on this issue.

Very insightful. I've often wanted someone to stand up and tell black people that this isn't the 1800s anymore and no one is their slave master. They want equality so bad, but yet they purposely set themselves apart from everyone else. I'll never ever understand that.

Peer pressure is something that people of all races get caught up in. It's a shame that people can't use their own minds when making decisions about whether or not to do something that everybody else is doing. When i say things that everybody else is doing, i mean smoking, drinking alcohol, sex. Peer pressure is very prevalant in school cause so many kids wanna fit in with other kids who they think are cool. There's nothin cool about skipping classes, hangin out in the hallway, having sex at a young age & having babies at a young age. People always looked at me like somethin was wrong with me in high school cause i was different. I came to school everyday & i wanted to learn. I didn't like reading when i was young but now i see that reading is very important cause having intelligence is the only way you're gonna survive in this cold world. Ignorant people for some reason don't think it's cool to read & go to school. How are you gonna survive if you're not smart? I know ya'll are gonna have somethin to say about me mentioning blacks but i'm gonna say it cause blacks have it the worst when it comes to peer pressure. None of ya'll on here have been to a all black school so you have no idea what it's like to deal with ignorance all day when you're trying to learn. Blacks wonder why so many of them are homeless & in prison. They're homeless & in prison cause when they were young, they didn't wanna educate themselves. I've always had a mind of my own & i've never been a follower. I do what i think is right & if people got a problem with me not being your average ignorant niqqa, then that's too bad. I used to have a problem with blacks laughin at me a lot but now i don't care about whoever laughs at me cause i refuse to be unintelligent & ignorant.


Another thing i wanted to say to ya'll on here, don't ever let anybody pressure you into having sex. Have sex when you're ready. So what if people laugh at you cause you're a virgin. The problem with so many people is that they're concerned with what people say about them. I could care less what people say about me. People talk about people. That's just the way of the world & that'll never change.


I think this was a good thread starter. Peer pressure is easy to get caught up in because everyone wants to fit in. They don't care if the most popular girl is sleeping with the football team, there is just something about her that kids would want to hang around her and her friends; thus kids would start to do things that they normally wouldn't do. The perfect example of peer pressure is the movie Thirteen. I thought it was a good and interesting movie to see what teens of today deal with and go through all because they just want to fit in and feel accepted.

And when I was younger I had alot in school but it didnt ever get to me... I STILL AM THE SAME BOY I USED TO BE IN THE 80s!! (I have the same values,etc)

I am not a Sheep that can be led around, but more a Cat leader type. But don't TRY force others, lead them to more options but it's their choice what they end up doing.

Could be a trait we are born with. Maybe some religion along the way as in my life, the 10 Commandments went a long way for me.
