View Full Version : Fake Autograph? jterry 01-18-2005, 09:32 AM Take a look @ this eBay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60&item=3868078757&rd=1 It looks like a fake to me. What do you guys think? Sterling Holobyte 01-18-2005, 10:32 AM I have no idea what a real Vicki Lawrence signature looks like so I couldn't tell you. You have to check out the feedback though. 100% positive feedback from over 1000 people is pretty damn good! Personally though, I would never buy someone else's autograph they got from someone famous. It feels less personal than getting it yourself, you know what I mean? PZelda 01-18-2005, 01:49 PM I could forge a Vicki auto, put it up on eBay and people would buy it from me anyway because I have 100% feedback. The only surefire way to guarantee an authentic autograph is to meet that celeb in person and watch them sign in front of you. I've seen a lot of really bad-looking fake Vicki auto's on eBay. There was one I saw on there last summer where somebody signed her name, but it was definitely NOT her writing at ALL. It looked like a 80 year old with shaky hands had tried to sign "Vicki Lawrence". Everybody that has an authentic auto from her knows that when she signs her last name, you can't read all the letters. If you CAN read her last name, it's either on a picture from a long time ago (when TCBS was still on the air) when she used to do that, or it's a fake. I know you have gotten a few auto's from her in-person (and so have I) so I would suggest going with the in-person autos that you have from her. HuntingtonM15 01-18-2005, 02:13 PM Yeah, that looks pretty fake to me. snl75 01-18-2005, 03:55 PM i dont have one in my autograph collection but it looks like a preprint to me too. i wouldnt buy it jterry 01-18-2005, 10:41 PM I wasn't planning on buying it or anything, but it kinda makes me mad that people are trying to pass off these fakes as real autographs and then people are buying them--thinking they are authentic. :( snl75 01-19-2005, 02:16 AM as a long time autograph collector i can tell you that bothers me too i only have 2 or 3 dealers of autographs that i buy from if i cant get them in person and the people i buy from have been in the biz for years and years ive bought very few off of ebay i also read mags and books on the subject but im getting a little off topic here so i will quit now PZelda 01-19-2005, 11:47 AM as a long time autograph collector i can tell you that bothers me too i only have 2 or 3 dealers of autographs that i buy from if i cant get them in person and the people i buy from have been in the biz for years and years ive bought very few off of ebay i also read mags and books on the subject but im getting a little off topic here so i will quit now It's OK. It really does sound like you know your stuff. HuntingtonM15 and I are also serious auto collectors. :) I've been collecting on and off since I was a kid, but I started getting serious about it two years ago. snl75 01-20-2005, 11:24 PM thank you for the nice complement HuntingtonM15 01-20-2005, 11:27 PM It's OK. It really does sound like you know your stuff. HuntingtonM15 and I are also serious auto collectors. :) I've been collecting on and off since I was a kid, but I started getting serious about it two years ago. Yep, I'm a big collector, too. I actually haven't written to any celebs in quite a while, but I hope to get back to doing that soon! PZelda 02-02-2005, 12:24 AM I was on eBay just a few minutes ago, and I spotted the BIGGEST fake EVER. I was rolling! Get a big load of this. OMG. WTF was this guy thinking?! He tried to imitate her writing, but it bombed. BIG TIME. Again, folks. THIS IS NOT HOW VICKI SIGNS HER NAME. You can read her "Vicki" but you CAN'T read her "Lawrence" because it's a bunch of scribbles after the "L." jterry 02-02-2005, 05:30 PM  OMG! I SAW THAT TOO! It is a nice photo, but soooooooo fake!! hughpuppies 02-03-2005, 11:50 PM The autograph on the picture of Vicki Lawrance is excatly the same as the on on this site about Staci Keanan. http://www.stacikeanan.net/ Now you know it is a fake. PZelda 03-03-2005, 10:07 PM Found another one! People, she does NOT sign her first name with a "e" on the end, and again...When she writes her last name, YOU CANNOT READ IT. She begins with "La" then the rest is just scribbles... And for some reason I CANNOT understand, "Carol Burnett" has also signed this (Vicki's "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" album! ). I put quotes around Carol's name, because it's very obvious her signature was also forged. Why, why, WHY do people do this? ohno: FOLKS, BE CAREFUL OF WHAT SIGNED ITEMS YOU BUY ON EBAY. There is a VERY reputable autograph-collecting organization that deals with guaranteeing autographs are authentic - UACC, Universal Autograph Collectors' Club. They have been around for decades, and there are Registered Dealers within the UACC. If you go to eBay and see a signed item you want, make absolutely sure to read the description to see if the seller is a UACC Registered Dealer. Ignore the other auctions that claim the autographs are real with COA's to "prove" it. A monkey could design a COA...Be leery of them! jterry 03-03-2005, 10:50 PM The Vicki signature looks even worse than the Carol one! Whoever signed that album must not be very bright. They can clearly see at the top that Vicki does not have an "e" at the end! Our albums look much better don't they Allison?;) :D PZelda 03-04-2005, 01:15 AM The Vicki signature looks even worse than the Carol one! If you don't mind me asking...Link me to that pic? :D jterry 03-04-2005, 08:42 AM Its actually a screencap from "Yes Dear." Here you go... PZelda 03-04-2005, 12:12 PM Its actually a screencap from "Yes Dear." Here you go... I can't believe I'm saying this, but I don't recognize the episode it's from! :seeya: It looks earlier than 2002...is it "The Complicated Plot"? jterry 03-04-2005, 03:26 PM I can't believe I'm saying this, but I don't recognize the episode it's from! :seeya: It looks earlier than 2002...is it "The Complicated Plot"? Nope, its from the episode when they are on the Baby Story Show. In this particular part, Vicki is saying something about how she is suppoded to be holding her new grandbaby today, but Kim hasn't had it yet. Then she talks about going to the Farmer's Market and then Tim comes on and goes on and on about fruit smoothies throughout the rest of the episode. I would have to vote this as my favorite Vicki "Yes Dear" Episode PZelda 03-04-2005, 06:46 PM Nope, its from the episode when they are on the Baby Story Show. I knew it had to be around the time Vicki started doing "The Two Woman Show," because her hair is pretty short there...I have that episode on tape. I can't believe I didn't remember. PZelda 03-15-2005, 11:04 AM (Originally posted on January 18, 2005) I've seen a lot of really bad-looking fake Vicki auto's on eBay. The signature looks nothing like Vicki's! Also, why would Vicki sign a Finding Nemo Photo? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32988&item=7517878286&rd=1 PZelda 05-21-2005, 06:01 PM Here is another obviously fake Vicki autograph.
