Today I was looking through my mail and I stumbled upon a religious type book I think. I looked through it a little. Then it came with a sheet of paper that had a letter on it from Leah but It wasn't handwritten. It must be a holiday thing. Did anyone else get this?

So what is this book and what does the note say???

queenschick

It's a little booklet based on the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard and the Scientology religion. It's called "The Way to Happiness". It's actually pretty interesting and a lot of the concepts are helpful.
The actual letter is typed and says:

"Dear Friend,
My mother gave me this book when I was in my teens. It really meant a lot to me because I had something (other than my mom,'cuz we don't always listen to our moms) to try and live my life by.Although I knew these things in the back of my mind, it kept me out of an awful 'lot of trouble.

I find now, the best part of the book is no matter what religious beliefs one holds, these are precepts that one can easily live by.

I hope this book may help you or someone you love.

Happy holidays!

Love,
Leah"

There's a website if ya wanna know more too. --->www.thewaytohappiness.org

how chilling...

and why is Leah Remini sending people letters about religion? Are you guys on her mailing list or something? Guess who isn't on it and will never be... Me.

Well I thought it was a kind gesture. I don't think we're on a mailing list but I think she sent it because we requested for her autograph this year. And why are you jumping off on her like that? It's not like she's personally insulted you or anything.

Perhaps she just wants people to be more aware of the religion. It's not like she is forcing them to convert or anything. Guess who she probably doesn't ever want to write to her...You.

How do you know she hasn't?

It's still a little weird for her to be sending things like this to people she doesn't know. Send the autograph and leave the poor people alone, Leah Remini!!!!

I think she needs to spend a little more time at the gym, and a little less time mailing religious handbooks to people.

I've written to many celebrities over the years, and several of them have sent other things down the road in addition to the original autograph. I think it is a nice gesture to do, showing that they took the time to take down the address and all. It's nice to see some celebrities putting forth the effort to show that they care about their fans. Leah also sent along a holiday greeting with these booklets. I don't see any problem at all with what she did. Anyway, you didn't receive one, so don't worry about it.

I don't think I'd use the work "religion" in the context of Scientology. I suppose the government might recognize it as such but really, I can write some sci-fi books and start a theology in my back yard too. Are you buying into it?

And Leah Remini is the last person on earth I'd ever listen to about anything.

Well, that wasn't really my main point anyway. I'm not too familiar with it, and I could personally care less about it. And no one said you had to listen to Leah about anything...

No, but using fame as a vehicle for your personal beliefs is reprehensible in that you take advantage of people's adulation to further your own personal motivation.

And there is no doubt in that in what she did.

She was definately taking advantage of her fame. I don't think normal people send booklets to a bunch of their FANS, and pay attention to the word FANS, about scientology or their religion of choice.

She is famous, for some reason people actually wanted an autograph from her, and so in addition to that she sends them all a freaked out book on scientology.

If these people had not asked for autographs, they would've never gotten any handbooks to happiness.

If that's not taking advantage of your fame, then I don't know what is...

They are people on a mailing list.

They love her obviously, and she says, "this is something my mother gave me.." I assume she was raised Catholic - I mean, be real, she wasn't raised under Scientology and if you think she wasn't pushing her beliefs on people then she would have never said a word.

If you honestly believe that she wasn't trying to further the Scientology cause then you have never read a word about scientology.

I don't believe that she's not trying to further the cause. It just seems as if you're saying she's forcing people to join her in her beliefs. People have the choice of whether or not they want to actually look at the booklet.

You don't send religious booklets to people explaining the way towards happiness without a goal of trying to change them or their beliefs in some way. There's no reason. What? She just wants people to know what she believes in?

Who's to say for sure what her exact motive was. Recently her FAQ was updated with information on Scientology, so she must have gotten a lot of questions about it. Perhaps she was just trying to make more fans aware. Or perhaps she was trying to change people...I really don't know, and I really don't care anymore. All I know is that a booklet in the mail would not change any of my beliefs.

Man you guys really like bashing Leah don't ya? Look, like I said I thought it was a nice gesture. I personally don't feel I have been forced into Scientology cause I myself have been raised Catholic but I thought the book had some good advice. So it was based on Scientology, ok. BUT good lord, it's not like it was sending bad messages. I don't exactly think she was FORCING us into the it. She was simply sharing her interest in her religion and I don't see anything wrong with that.

And another thing...if ya really hate Leah so much then why take the time to bash her? Don't come over to a board of a show that she's a star of and start bashing on her. Go occupy yourself with some other sick hobby.Get over yourself!

Jpcanes was right, this thread was interesting, I didn't know there was so many mean spirited people on here before. Jeez!! and without opening the Scientology box of discussion too much, what's so wrong with it? No one should be banned for their "Free Speech" on this forum.

"Everything that Leah Remini does is good" is this really what you believe? I don't like that attitude. She uses her popularity to recruit members. If she believes in scientology, good for her. But she should not send Scientology propaganda to kids.

Scientology is a dangerous and criminally convicted cult masquerading as a religion for tax exempt status purposes.

Some quotes of L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology:
"You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion."
"People who attack Scientology are criminals."
"ENEMY SP Order. Fair game. May be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed."

Note that this says that an enemy of Scientology may be “injured... tricked, sued, lied to, or destroyed." I am an "enemy" of scientology. So why don't you kill me?

I think it's nice that Leah sends it out, I got one about a year ago. How sad for all the negative people on here, just cause your another religion or no religion at all gives you no right to put her down, there are religious channels all over TV, in the mail, online, all around us. I'm not a Scientologist but, I think she has every right to send out information, just like everyone else does. Everything in it is very positive. So I say thanks Leah for the booklet!
