I really felt sorry for Beaver in tonight's episode. But the way Ward and June handle things in the end to make him feel loved is so great too! :)

It also occurred to me how funny it is that Wally seemingly never went through the "awkward age!"

Not everyone goes through the awkward age. IMO, Beaver did not do puberty well at all. In alot of ways I think it was the writers' fault because of the style they gave him,it seems they didn't allow him to change with the times mentally or phyiscally. Now that voice of his was no one's fault but he seemed to squint alot as he got older, whether it was a nervous habit or lights, he should have got a grip on that. Wally took much better care of himself so I think that's why he went through that time alot smoother. They kept Beaver a slob.

Yeah it seems like they always wanted to make Beaver younger than he was and Wally seem more "mature."

Yeah, Wally went through adolescence gracefully. Beaver was a mess. To be honest, I never thought he was cute, even as a li'l kid.

I thought Beaver was super cute as a kid and he was also cute as pre-adolescent. At this time of the series though, he definately is going through an awkward phase, and the writing isn't helping. But I also don't think he looked as bad as his classmates! He had a few good-looking ones in the later years (especially Tim Matheson as Mike), but usually he looked better than the rest.:D

I think he was really cute when he was little too. When you see these later episodes it is kind of hard to realize it's even the same person.

I agree that he sure did change over the course of the show's run!

That's true and it's kinda too bad, because when they do give him a more mature role, like in "Beaver's Fear," he does a really good job!

I liked this episode as well. In contrast to "Beaver the Bunny," the writers actually made the character of Beaver act his age, which was about 12 at this point in the series. I also agree that Ward and June handled Beaver's "adolescent turmoil" very well.

Sorry. I thought Beaver was much too old to be carrying on the way he did in this episode. The "Nobody Loves Me" Complex is for 8 year olds. Jerry Mathers was a decent child actor but the show's viewers wanted to see a cute little kid doing cute little things forever. Mathers got too old and too tall too fast to be the cute little kid doing cute little things forever. The show's viewers weren't interested in seeing the real life of a 12 year old and the producers were stuck trying to keep Mathers something of a 8 year old in order to keep the show on the air for as long as possible. I thought this episode was one of the least interesting episodes in the entire series. It made the title character appear weak, dopey, immature, and pathetic.

I thought Beaver was adorable as a young child! Even when he got older he was pretty good-looking too, it was just that awkward age that was horrible.
