Seinfeld's OK, but I like Raymond.

Seinfeld, easily. One of the best and most unique sitcoms ever.

I only watched a couple seasons of Seinfeld. How is it "unique"? The seasons I watched were about 4 people living in N.Y. When did it get "unique"? I've been trying to watch the reruns on TBS for about a month but all the episodes seem almost about nothing. Please help.

good god, you're not getting the point of Seinfeld. It's a show about nothing, that's the whole gimmick of the show.

Seinfeld gets my vote, ELR bores me.

- intentionally unlikeable characters with no redeeming qualities
- story-driven
- "show about nothing," only show to really explore the minutae of everyday life
- has contributed more slang into our vernacular than any other show, i.e. "spongeworthy"
- subplots will often intersect by the end of the episode
- has done such episodes as "The Chinese Restaurant," "The Parking Garage" and "The Betrayal," using concepts and gimmicks no other show has done

And that's just off the top of my head.

There has never been another show like Seinfeld and there never will be. It's in a class of its own.

Once again, you missed the point. Seinfeld's "nothing" is not the same as Teletubbies' "nothing."

I liked all the characters in Seinfeld, and Roseanne "explored the minutae of everyday life", and has done such episodes as "A Stash From the Past, and featured the very first same-sex kiss on TV, "using concepts and gimmicks no other show has done." AND THATS JUST OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD.

The characters were such that you would enjoy watching them, but their behavior and actions would be horrible. They never evolved, nor did they learn any life lessons in any episode.

Roseanne did not explore minutae like Seinfeld did. Seinfeld did it to a trivial extent, overexamining things that really didn't matter in the first place.

Explain how "A Stash From the Past" used concepts and gimmicks along the lines of Seinfeld. I've never seen that episode, but I doubt it was anything like the three episodes I mentioned.

"A Stash From the Past" is one if not the only episode to have a husband and wife ( who are trying to have a baby) smoking pot in a bathroom.

Okay, that comparison doesn't work at all, because I was talking about storytelling gimmicks/concepts, not what was a historical first for a sitcom. It's not even close to the same thing.

"The Chinese Restaurant" was an episode that was told entirely in real-time, something no show had done before, though several have copied it since. There was really no plot and the episode was staged in one small location for all 22 minutes, with nothing but the interaction between the characters holding the episode together.

"The Betrayal" was an episode told backwards, from ending to beginning, never done before and not even attempted since.

No, I meant that they sometimes told stories in unique ways that no other show had done before. I know some shows are unique in their own ways, but Seinfeld was just more creative with it than most.

The thing is, Seinfeld is an acquired humor, so I can understand why some people don't get it.

I do, too. I think its real funny, I just do't like the story that much. Whats so special about the " Parking Garage " episode?

It was similar to "The Chinese Restaurant." One set location, thin plot... the only difference is that it wasn't real-time. I think there were several time lapses.

What was the thin plot?

They were lost in a parking garage.

All 4 of them? That plot is pretty thin. Were they the only people with screen time in that episode.

No. There were some mall cops and random drivers that they stopped to ask for help and such. They were the only four major characters if that's what you mean.

ELR makes cronic vomiting seem fun.


A more fair comparison for ELR would be your fav show Roseanne. Even then Roseanne is far superior in every way possible. I say this because both shows revolve around dysfunctional families.

Roseanne is my favorite show. Raymond is second. I havn't rated Seinfeld yet.

Sorry but Seinfeld is head and shoulders above Raymond.Raymond was an alright show,but Seinfeld is one of my favourite tv shows of all time that i could watch episode after episode of and never get tired of it. Seinfeld was always funny and had great characters.As for everybody loves Raymond,i DONT love raymond.I thought Robert,and the parents were alot funnier.
