View Full Version : Direct TV Help: RECOVERY MODE!

For the past two weeks, my Direct TV (http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/index.dsp) receiver has suddenly been blacking out. Instead of the normal "searching for signal" graphic/process, I instead keep getting a black screen w/ white letters reading "RECOVERY MODE...DOWNLOADING SOFTWARE...DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR RECEIVER...PLEASE WAIT!

The longest I waited without turning off and or unplugging the receiver was about three and a half days. But even with that, the message was still on the screen. No matter what I do whether it's unplugging the receiver for an extended period, changing cables, buying additional TV/cable applicances, nothing seems to be working (in hopes of getting rid of the message for good).

Yesterday, I finally had enough and decided to switch around the cables. For a while, I managed to get a picture and sound but with the message still up. I later but the black screen and message but with sound.

Ever since that message has been up, I haven't been able to function my remote control outside of adjusting the volume and turning the TV (but not the Direct TV receiver mind you) off. When I left home this morning, the receiver kept turning on and off by itself. For a while, I was able to keep the receiver on for about a minute and a half before blanking out again.

Why don't you contact Direct TV directly?

Wow, recovery mode should only be like, 3 minutes long. Call DirecTV and tell them to fix the problem.
