IBM plans to exit PC business

That's too bad. They invented the PC as we know it. I for one will be sad to see them go.


I guess old IBM's will be worth even more now...

Too bad. I guess they couldn't keep up with the cheapies like Dell. Plus, it seems as if in recent years, Compaq/Hewlett-Packard was coming out with better computers.

I don't know, those IBM ThinkPads were pretty good systems, they were the first with biometric security chips which secures your password with your fingerprint...and the recent models had that Hard Disk CrashGuard thing that secured your system when you dropped it. They were also exceptionally thin.

I really will be sad to see them go. They brought us the first computer, the first 286, OS/2, and MCA... oh well...

I remember reading that people feared back in the 80's that IBM would soon control everything. Doesn't look like that will be happening any time soon...leave that up to Bill Gates ;).

if you read the rest of the article, iit does explain that although we will still be seeing IBM's desktops and notebook computers, the company making them will probably be in China. IBM would just sell off that portion of their business, which may or may not include the use of the IBM name on the product.

Whether the quality and reputation stays the same is a different question altogether.....

If I had invested in IBM in the early '80s, which is when I thought about doing that, I'd be a millionaire right now. I kick myself for dropping that ball. Dangit!
