View Full Version : Does it seem to anyone else that they're TRYING to get cancelled?
mouse28 11-19-2004, 02:59 PM I have been a fan forever--but I have to say that in the last few episodes--they seem to be pushing the envelope--in direct defiance to the people who voted down "gay marriage" (not that I personally blame the writers or actors). I find all of it really funny--some of it even slightly veiled, but I am really afraid they're going to get cancelled. (but then I came here and read that this MAY be the final season anyway...so maybe they're all just figuring, "What the hell...may as well go out with a bang.")

Hi Mouse28, Yes, this will be the final seasons of Will & Grace, That '70s Show, King of the Hill Raymond and NYPD BLUE. The reason, all of their contacts are up after this season. Face it, Will & Grace is really starting to become very stale. I mean if they did an 8th season, the cast wouldn't be paid alot of money and besides the show will really start to be like Drew Carey and Just Shoot Me's late seasons (1995-2004)-(1997-2003) but by ending this year for W&G, the show will regain respect and also will at least end while the show is still good intead of a whimper.
Take for instance That '70s Show, Ashton Kutcher and Topher Grace said in Feburary this the 7th season (this season) would be the last for both of them. They are making a good choice to end the show while it is still good. Also the show is in 1979 which means that by the time they are in 1980, the show ends with a big bang. If you look on their IMDb.com info on T70sS it says (1998-2005) Also on W&G this past Feburary Debra Messing also said that the 7th season (this year) would be the last for W&G too. Will & Grace (1998-2005). By the time the show ends, both shows start their cable run on FX (T70sS) and Lifetime (W&G).
For NYPD Blue (1993-2005) and Raymond (1996-2005), they are ending very good! And for KOTH (1997-2005) as well so that the show end swell instead of a whimper.
dynoguy88 11-20-2004, 06:03 PM mouse28, I am here to tell you - DON'T LISTEN TO JD2635.
This poster has been annoying everyone on this forum for quite some time now because they think the show is ending this year even though there has been no articles written about it, no cast members mentioning it, nothing, nadda, zilch.
It has gotten to the point now where it seems he/she is doing it on purpose. Probably just to drive us crazy. And for some reason, JD2635 keeps constantly mentioning the end of "That 70's show," as if it has anything to do with Will & Grace, WHICH IT DOESN'T!!!!
While most here are actually dissapointed with how the episodes have been so far this season and last, there has been no word what-so-ever from any source that the show is ending this season. So do what the rest of us are doing, wait and see.
JD2635 is like a broken record player that will continue to post the same annoying, obnoxious things until you want to just go bang your head against the wall. Pay no attention to her/him.
Janet McFarland 11-21-2004, 01:09 AM I agree with dynoguy88! And I personally think the best episode of this season was 'Saving Grace Pt. 1' :D
Will and Grace Fanatic 11-25-2004, 01:36 AM When people came on here and kept saying that Will and Grace was going to end this season I wasn't so sure. Because NBC is in a ratings rut this season with Friends and Frasier off the air. But the ratings Will and Grace are having only shows more proof that NBC will want to end the show. So sorry to say I think it will end. I don't know why the ratings are going down so much. It may be that the show is becoming to controvesial with Will having a boyfriend and all. But I don't think they are trying to cancel it. They may have thought a boyfriend would be good for the show but maybe that is what is taking viewers away.
slackermonkey 11-25-2004, 02:33 AM But the ratings aren't doing that bad. NBC has really been slipping this season, but by their standards Will & Grace is doing fine.
For example, WB's shows are doing horrible compared to other networks, but for the WB, some of them are hits because they're judged by WB as a network.
Will and Grace Fanatic 11-25-2004, 07:46 PM Yes, the ratings aren't that bad, but with the show bringing in only 11.9 million viewers for one of there episodes that is not good. Frasier had ratings that went that low last season and that is one of the reasons it wasn't renewed for a 12th season. will and Grace really hasn't had ratings this low since the first season. They average 11.9 viewers in there 1st season. It just doesn't look good for a show that at one time got 27 million viewers for a 100th episode.
slackermonkey 11-26-2004, 12:09 AM The television landscape is different than it was when Will & Grace was in its first season, thanks to cable and other entertainment venues. It's like saying comic books are outrageously priced today because they used to be a nickel. It's like inflation, only... backwards. :p
And Frasier was canceled purely because everyone involved was ready to end the show. Its ratings had nothing to do with it.
Will and Grace Fanatic 11-26-2004, 05:11 PM Kelsey Grammer has hinted I beleive on 2 different shows about trying to get NBC to renew it for a 12th season. But nothing happened.
ljonesxoxo 11-26-2004, 06:46 PM i'll cry when/if it gets cancelled. haha.
Will and Grace Fanatic 11-27-2004, 01:50 AM I really do think it should end anyways. Although I love the show ever since about the 5th season the really great storylines faded away. Yes, they had some great storylines beyond the 5th season but not as many before that. At least if they end this season they will kind of end on top. If they go on another season I see the ratings declining to 9 million around there which isn't good. Let's not have a Drew Carey show disaster.
Maybe, if we are lucky then we'll get the Jack show and the Karen show.
adrian@Germany 11-28-2004, 08:40 AM I don't think it get's cancelled. I think they will do one ore two more years. Will & Grace is NBC's best- rated sitcom at the moment, right?
slackermonkey 11-28-2004, 07:23 PM Joey is slightly higher-rated in season-to-date ratings, but W&G is very, very close behind.

Well as I can see currently, the ratings for the show itself are doing lower than expected. My guess is if the whole cast does resign, then the whole cast won't really get paid alot of money. But it all depends on what is happening right now.
slackermonkey 12-06-2004, 05:49 PM The ratings are lower because NBC is lower this year. All of its shows are performing poorly compared to CBS.
Any bad ratings are a reflection of the network, not the shows (well, except in the cases of Father of the Pride and Hawaii...)
JD2635 12-06-2004, 05:50 PM If W&G gets resigned for the 8th season, I will start singing Moon Over Parma from the Drew Carey Show. Everyone knew how the show ended. But when W&G and T70sS ends next season, they will end on a high note instead of a whimper!
Miss Golden 12-08-2004, 04:06 AM If That 70s Show and Will and Grace end this year, that means if King of Queens returns in the Fall 2005, it will be the longest running comedy.

You understand I'm not insisting that W&G is returning next year. Unlike you, I know that whether or not the show will return has not yet been set in stone. Something will be announced by the end of this month (contractual season renewals are always announced in mid/late December) so we'll know for sure by then.
I personally think it could go either way. Creatively the show is running out of juice (a fact even NBC has acknowledged) and should end, yet NBC needs more comedies and can't find any replacements. But if the show is canceled after this year, don't be rubbing it in my face because I never said it would for a fact be coming back.

And I'll sing the Mexican Hat Dance song while wearing a tiara and high heals if you can go one post on this board without mentioning the show ending or comparing it with that 70's show. I have a hard time imagining either thing happening.
Just think if the show is renewed for an 8th season, which could very well happen since NBC needs some comedies. We'll get to have the pleasure of reading your endless posts that say "WILL & GRACE 1998-2006" instead.
I'll say this for you... you're even more consistent than you are annoying, and everyone can vouch for how annoying you are here.

Well, you just never know would you Miss Golden?!:D
db108108 12-11-2004, 01:05 AM And Frasier was canceled purely because everyone involved was ready to end the show. Its ratings had nothing to do with it.
And the fact that its 11th season averaged 10.6mil viewers and cost $5.5 million dollars an episode. There comes a point when you have to say that, well, maybe we'll drop 2 million viewers by putting on a new show, but we'll save $4.5 million an episode. That's what happened to Frasier.
As for W&G, it's nice to see Will for a bf at last, but they show is running out of steam. Again, this is one of those cost analysis things. If they keep Joey and air a new series at 8pm, it probably won't do any worse than W&G and will cost $3mil less an episode. NBC could always be a little loose in this respect because ER and Friends were making money hand over first, but not anymore. That's why any pricey series on NBC's sched (with the exception of ER or Law & Order) is in danger of cancellation.
STD, Will & Grace is averaging 12.0 million viewers (down 23%) and a 5.2 rating in adults (down 33%). It gets the same performance out of Fear Factor for a quarter the price.
About That 70s Show, there was some speculation before the season that it might just go for another year (especially considering how fast Ashton's fame flame has burnt out), but ratings this season have dropped in numbers similar to Will & Grace's, rather inexplicably. As for KOTH, I'm not so sure I'd call it dead yet.
ThirteenInchEscape 12-11-2004, 04:06 PM I personally, will be glad to see all of those shows cancelled, and am pretty sure I read somewhere else that KOTH, That 70's Show, and Will and Grace were all in their final seasons.
The fact is, though I still watch Will & Grace, it is simply time to change it up, 7 seasons is a respectable run.
That 70's show on the other hand, went straight into the toilet as soon as Donna and Kelso got back from California, it should have ended with them all graduating.
While King of the Hill is still good, I would be glad to see things changeup and see if we can get a decent new sitcom.
Also, I dont know how CBS does so well, I dont watch a single show on that network, it seems that most of their sitcoms are about fat, stupid men with strangely attractive wives.
Assuming there are new shows every week, I watch 3 1/2 hours of ABC (up a whopping 3 hours from last season), 3 hours of NBC, 2 hours of Fox, and 2 hours of the WB.
(needless to say, there are alot of days where I am annoyed because nothing is on)
I hope next season some decent sitcoms come out, the genre is certainly in decline with one notable exception (AD)
db108108 12-11-2004, 07:59 PM My totals would be ABC 3 hours, Fox 1.5, NBC 1, CBS 2, the UPN and the WB 0.

1.) Will & Grace became stale ever since Leo and Grace stayed in the picture the last 2 seasons. It also started to stale at season 6 when Grace was forced out of the show due to her pregnancy.
2.) That '70s Show was great by all far until after the 5th season, by the 6th season after the Donna/Eric Madison trip, that is when the show went downhill. nOT THE 5TH SEASON OK DUMBASS!
3.) King of the Hill has a 9 season run and it is nice that the whole gang in Arlen Texasw goes out with a bang instead of a whimper!

Ashton and Topher stated back in Feburuary that this season would be the last for both of them. Also Mike Judge and Greg Daniels have also stated that KOTH was leaving after this season too because of their timeslot being bumped constantly due to NFL football.

The fact is, though I still watch Will & Grace, it is simply time to change it up, 7 seasons is a respectable run. This show ran out of steam after season 5!
That 70's show on the other hand, went straight into the toilet as soon as Donna and Kelso got back from California, it should have ended with them all graduating. INCORRECT!
While King of the Hill is still good, I would be glad to see things changeup and see if we can get a decent new sitcom.
1.) Will & Grace and That '70s Show's 6th season were both the worst seasons ever. Both shows ran out of steam after that season. You wouldn't want W&G to be another Drew Carey Show in which that show was burned off during the summer. So I do think that this likely being the final season would end out with a big bang.
2.) That '70s Show can't end after season 5 with the whole gang graduating because it would really suck having such a cliffhanger and end with such a cliffhanger without even knowing what happened next. And besides it was 1978 so they eventually had to stay through 1980. This season is going to end in 1980 anyway.
3.) King of the Hill has a respectable 9 year run and though the show is running out of ideas lately, I think that the whole gang in Arlen should end the show on a very high note espicially with Bobby dying because he suffers a heart attack!:(
Superbatboy 01-11-2005, 01:17 AM The show has just simply run out of gas. I started to notice it slipping during the 5th season, the 6th proved to be even worse. NBC probably won't renew this show, which is a good thing.
