Kura Tumanako told the NZPA news agency Wednesday that she had started breastfeeding the Staffordshire bull terrier pup after her baby stopped taking her milk. "I didn't want to waste it so I gave it to Honey Boy," she said. According to NZPA, Tumanako said she had fed the dog twice a day for the past week but would probably wean it off in about six weeks' time. Her baby, now 2 months old, is on bottled milk. "I wanted to raise it (the pup) with my baby," she said. "I wanted to bring it up with a baby. It will protect her as they grow up," said Tumanako, who lives in Hastings in New Zealand's North Island. "He drinks more than the baby. It doesn't hurt, but it's a little bit ticklish." This is so gross! That is the nastiest thing I have ever heard...You are right it is Gross, and sounds illegal and immoral:rolleyes: Mr. Television 11-19-2004, 01:50 AM Thats the stupidiest thing I ever heard.  laceyinthesky 11-19-2004, 01:50 AM I'm really sorry I clicked on this. ThirteenInchEscape 11-19-2004, 01:57 AM well, I dont know that it is illegal or immoral, but it is certainly strange. I've seen a video of a bird being breasfed by a dog, so I mean, it cant be that unnatural of a thing, still, very very strange. oh...and you know, Animal Planet has some really low quality tv shows.. Hollow 11-19-2004, 02:20 AM did you HAVE to announce that? *MIBabe03* 11-19-2004, 02:29 AM That's really messed up. Man people are dumb. Lady T 11-19-2004, 02:39 AM Originally posted by ThirteenInchEscape well, I dont know that it is illegal or immoral, but it is certainly strange. I think the whole situation is very immoral-Think about it... Pirate Jenny 11-19-2004, 03:09 AM Will someone please explain to me why this is so immoral? Is it because of the preconceived notion that a breast should be used for anything OTHER than milk, when, in fact, that's just what it's for? So, she's nurturing a baby of another species. It's not sexual. How is it different from giving a dog food off the table? That's supposedly "just for human consumption" too. If you think it's gross, ok...but I just can't see where the "immoral" thing is coming from. Chambers 11-19-2004, 03:11 AM I don't understand why it's immoral either. Why somebody would actually think it's sexual is beyond me. ThirteenInchEscape 11-19-2004, 03:13 AM what could possibly be construed as immoral at it? If you actually were to care about morality in the biblical sense, not that I do, though beastiality is a sin, breast feeding is not considering a sexual act, because if it were, breastfeeding a baby would not only be incest, it would also be adultery. As such, though it is strange, and the woman may be pyschologically unhealthy, in the nature sense, it is natural for mammals to try to nourish other mammals, it is just that humans have the reasoning skills to decide it is abnormal to breastfeed another species. I challenge you to name a single article of morality that would state that it is immoral to breasftfeed a dog. If you think it's gross, ok...but I just can't see where the "immoral" thing is coming from. That is just my opinion; I think it is just unnatural for a human being to allow a dog to nurse from her breast, there is other options to feeding a puppy. Chambers 11-19-2004, 03:14 AM Originally posted by Undercover Angel That is just my opinion; I think it is just unnatural for a human being to allow a dog to nurse from her breast, there is other options to feeding a puppy. True, there are other options. But it doesn't make it immoral. She certainly isn't harming anybody. I think people are using the term "immoral" far too loosely. Lady T 11-19-2004, 03:16 AM Originally posted by Chambers True, there are other options. But it doesn't make it immoral. She certainly isn't harming anybody. I think people are using the term "immoral" far too loosely. Okay, maybe I did use the word "immoral" loosely, and I do apologize, but I just think it is unnatural for a human being to do something like this... ThirteenInchEscape 11-19-2004, 03:17 AM Also, it should be mentioned that dogs are pack animals, and are more likely to have a far closer kinship with animals they are actually related to, as such, she wanted the dog to protect her child, and decided that if the dog was breastfed by her, the dog and child would have a closer kinship. Chambers 11-19-2004, 03:17 AM Originally posted by Undercover Angel Okay, maybe I did use the word "immoral" loosely, and I do apologize, but I just think it is unnatural for a human being to do something like this... Yeah, it isn't something you see everyday. Lady T 11-19-2004, 03:19 AM Originally posted by Chambers Yeah, it isn't something you see everyday. No, it is not, and the article was a little unsettling for me, maybe I did phrase the word "immoral" incorrectly when I described my feelings about this story... Chambers 11-19-2004, 03:21 AM Originally posted by Undercover Angel No, it is not, and the article was a little unsettling for me, maybe I did phrase the word "immoral" incorrectly when I described my feelings about this story... I've also heard of women who will breast feed orphaned chimpanzees. I don't see anything wrong with that either. It may not be something you'd ever do, but since it isn't hurting anybody and is only providing nourishment for another mammal, I see no problem in it. Yes, I do understand that, but what she is doing is bizarre, I have never heard of a story about a human breast feeding an animal, have you? Ok, I pledge complete igroance about women that have nursed chimpanzees, because I have never heard that before, basically this story about a women nursing a dog was upsetting to me and I was just to clarify my feelings in this topic. If you think it's gross, ok...but I just can't see where the "immoral" thing is coming from. There is a lot of people that would think this is immoral meaning unnatural, and there are some narrow minded people that would find this situation sexual. THAT is where I came with the term immoral, and as I stated easlier, I might have used that termed in a loose sense, but I believe this story is disgusting, unnatural, while she is breat feeding a dog and having her own child drink from a bottle, when it should be the other way around.... Hey, I think it's really cool that you came out and said that you (and you weren't the only one) had used the word "immoral" loosely, and I really hope that those of us who don't agree aren't coming off as being in "attack mode," because that certainly isn't my intent. I was just having a hard time grasping that, with all the horrible things going on in the world, the fact that a woman is nurturing an animal in an unorthodox way can be so reviled. The fact that the mother is breastfeeding the puppy and not the baby is not adressed in full in the article, though it is stated that the baby stopped taking the milk. And she gave it to the puppy because she didn't want to waste it. There could be any number of reasons why the baby would no longer be drinking the milk...there could be an allergy, a nutrition deficit, the baby may have poorly developed facial muscles and be unable to grasp the nipple in a manner needed to nurse...the point is that she is not withholding milk from the baby in order to feed it to the puppy, but because the baby is no longer nursing, she is giving the milk to the puppy. As for unnatural, as has been stated before, such phenomena has been documented in nature, both among humans, as well as other animals birds hatching and raising other species' young (the cuckoo commonly lays its eggs in the nests of other birds to be raised with the other bird's offspring) to the higher primate. The fact is, a mother, of any species, feels an innate need to nurture, and nature will provide examples of her expressing this. It is, in fact, more unnatural for a mother to feed her child commercial formula than for a mother to take another infant to her breast..but formula feeding is perfectly acceptable, and in some cases, necessary. Please also know that I'm not trying to undermine your feelings, you are allowed to think, and express anything you wish, for any reason...I'm not trying to convince you to change your beliefs, I just hope to provide a logical counterpoint using my beliefs. bandito 11-19-2004, 08:16 AM Originally posted by laceyinthesky I'm really sorry I clicked on this. ~*Belle N'Shawn forever~* 11-19-2004, 10:07 AM Originally posted by Undercover Angel That is the nastiest thing I have ever heard...You are right it is Gross, and sounds illegal and immoral:rolleyes: That is really gross, why would they breastfeed a dog on there breast when they can easily train them??? maybe she likes the dog sucking on her things lmao im sorry i had to say that Hollow 11-19-2004, 03:38 PM i cannot even stand looking at this thread title. Who the ****s cares, why are people flipping out about it? crystals 11-19-2004, 11:56 PM I think that's really gross. :barf: :barf: MaryElizabeth 11-21-2004, 03:37 AM While I would never breast feed any animal and I find this strange, it's none of my business what people choose to do, whether I agree with it or not. It has nothing to do with me what so ever. Dutabi84 11-21-2004, 03:51 AM This is so incredibly ridiculous..and wrong. You don't have to stick your tit in an animals mouth to nurture it and raise it to protect your child. That's totally unnatural. I mean for Christ's sakes, get some milk in a bottle if you must, and feed it that way. What the hell is this woman thinking? I don't understand what goes through peoples' heads sometimes. |
