I can't say that I'm shocked. That kind of crap always happens at awards shows.

Only that stuff happens at black award shows LOL. Suge Knight needs to keep his comments to himself. If he don't like G Unit, the whole world doesn't need to know that. He's just mad cause Dr Dre has been successful at Aftermath records & Death Row records hasn't released anything but unreleased 2Pac music over wack beats & some compilation cd's hahahahahahahahahahaha. I guarantee you Suge Knight got a lot of rap music in his vaults at Death Row but his stupid ass won't release any of his former artists music. Crooked I who was on the label has a lawsuit against him by Suge cause Crooked I is trying to release some music of his on his own label & Suge is trying to stop him from doing that. Ain't that a bit*h? Suge is a a**hole. That's why i don't understand why Kurupt would sign with Death Row again cause he knows his music will never get released. Just because Suge gave him a job as vice president of the label, that's why he signs back over there. What a idiot. That's messed up about Dr Dre gettin punched by some dude backstage before he went on stage to accept his award at the Vibe awards.

Ha. I wonder if they fight as tough as they all claim to in their music.

I'll see it when I get home later today. I have a sound card on my home computer and will view the action. What the hell happened to the R & B of long ago? The Mowtowns, the Marvin Gaye's, Temptation's, doo-wop, etc. Hip-Hop/Rap has no heart, no soul whatsoever. This kind of music does promote gang violence. (IMO)

Addendum: Although I hate rap/hip-hop altogether, I only like at least five (5) songs in that category. The rest sucks. Period. Keep the golden age of R & B alive!! :D

It used to back in the late 80s and early 90s.

Since the mid 90s it's been down hill.

Rap music is so terrible now, i haven't bought a cd since 5 years ago. Rap to me died after 98 cause that was the last good year for rap music. I was hurt when Tribe Called Quest broke up in 98 after their The Love Movement cd cause i was a big fan of their's. Every rap song nowadays is so mainstream & commercial. What happened to the hardcore rap like NWA, Ice Cube, MC Eiht, Spice 1, Kool G Rap, Rakim, EPMD? Every rap song is so soft now. Westside Connection came out with a song last year called So Many Rappers In Love. That song is hilarious. The hook goes there's so many rappers in love on the radio, there's so many fake ass thugs on the radio hahahahahahahahahahaha. At the end of the song, some dude be saying he likes to walk in the park, he likes poetry, he likes to watch the birds fly LOL. He's imitating what soft rappers be saying to women. For those who don't know Westside Connection consists of Ice Cube, Mack 10, WC. I wish they would've named rappers names on the song who they think are in love. That would've caused a lot of rappers to be mad at them if they would've did that.

Bossradio93 did you see The Original Kings Of Comedy movie when Steve Harvey was dissin rappers? What he said is so funny. He said back in the day when he was coming up, you had groups like The Temptations who sang at the same microphone & did dance steps. He said nowadays s**t ain't like that no more LOL. He said stank ass rappers make him sick hahahahahahaha. He said when you go to a rap concert it's 40 muthaf**kas on stage & everybody got a microphone. Muthaf**ka why? Hahahahahahahahahaha. We can't understand what one of ya'll is saying. How everybody get a microphone hahahahahahahaha. He also said rap concerts got too many damn instructions, everybody gotta do something hahahahahahahahahahahaha.

did anyone see how Kanye West lost his head over Gretchen Wilson winning "Best New Artist" over him at the American Music Awards? That is as bad as how 50 Cent went onstage to steal Evanescence's thunder.

Naw i didn't see that but black artists need to realize that they're at a music awards show where there are mostly white artists so they shouldn't get upset when somebody else wins a award that they think they should've won.

isiahthomas, I never thought that I would agree with anything you said, but you hit the nail on the head.

I also think that the fight at the VIBE Awards was a real disrespect to Quincy Jones. I mean Quincy is someone who has embraced these artist, and given them support, and how do they show appreciation, they start a fight at an event to honor him. ohno: ohno: ohno:

funny thing is that IMO, Maroon 5 deserved the award more than either Kanye or Gretchin, but you haven't seen them talking about how the award was OWED to them. I think part of the prob is that a lot of acts (not just rap, there's rock and pop ones too) that get way too cocky and forget there's other types of music out there.

Acting all superior to other artists/genres is not exactly endearing and won't exactly pick up fans who also embrace these other acts.

This incident won't be looked upon that seriously. "Rap music will never be the same again" is not exactly a valid statement in this case. It's just another unfortunate incident where a few knuckleheads got involved in something. It's very unfortunate that it happened at an awards show, but obviously in the case of some, the saying "you can take the kid out of the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out of the kid" still applies. The fight could have happened anywhere, it shouldn't be looked upon as a representation of hip hop, because that's not what hip hop is about. That should be looked upon as ignorance from those involved.

I've never seen a fight break out in the Oscars, Emmy's or the American Music Awards. It shouldn't of happened. Some of these Hip Hop kids (artists) are constantly shooting people and now this stabbing.

All because of the music....... Look at the artists who have died for their say in music. It's a shame.

Quincy Jones daughter Kidada used to be 2Pac's woman before he died. 2Pac made some very bad comments about Quincy saying that he only likes white women & he's a uncle tom but yet & still he dates his daughter. 2Pac was off the hook.

Hasn't something like this happened every year at the Vibe Awards? It seems like a fight, shooting or stabbing is always happening. The Vibe Awards needs to be cancelled.

Having fights break out and stabbings and what-not at the Vibe Awards prove just what everyone already thinks about us.

I heard that Kanye West was trying to act cocky about Gretchen winning best new artist. What exactly did he say?

This is only the second year. Nothing happened at last year's VIBE awards.

You're right, it shouldn't have happened. But the mistake people are making is saying that it's all because of the music. Fans who'd best appreciate rap as a form of music know that the violence associated with some of the people who make the music has nothing to do with it. That'd be like blaming rock music in relation to Shannen Hoon, Layne Staley and any other rockers who OD. It's not the music, it's a certain, small segment of people who are associated with it. Saying that hip hop "kids" are "constantly shooting people" is an obvious over-exaggeration. We certainly hear about it when it happens, but that's a small percentage of the hip hop community.

Felicitylen i don't know what Kanye West said but he's a arrogant dude. He thinks just because he's accomplished so much as a producer/rapper that he's special which is typical of black artists once they become popular. He's not that good of a rapper so i don't know why he acts cocky. I like the different topics he talks about but he's nothin special.

I do like some of the music but, it saddens me to see that someone got stabbed in an awards show. I do remember the deaths of some young people like 2 Pac and Biggie Smalls and maybe a few others.

he said somethin to the affect of "I feel like I was robbed....if you're nominated and think you deserve to have won you have the right to express your feelings on it...Best New Artists only comes around 1 time"....I don't think he realizes that there r other genres of music and he was up against to different genres so the results r gonna be very mixed. But, I still don't know how the hell Gretchen Wilson won, she aggrivates the hell out of me!

yea, but a lot of artists at least are grateful to be nominated, instead of assuming they must win.

You did not see Prince crying and bitching that Lionel Richie won the "Album of the Year" Grammy that he DESERVED back in 1985. He had more class than that, he showed respect to Lionel and his fellow peers who were up for the award instead of acting like Kanye thinking you're better than everyone just because you produced a flop Janet Jackson album and you're known for stealing an old Chaka Khan song.

I saw the Kanye thing on Access Hollywood the other night. That surprised me. I thought he was one of the brighter, down to earth, better mannered rappers out. I wouldn't think he'd be the type to come across like that. Like MissZero said, he should have recognized there were other genres of music being represented there and it's not all about the impact he felt he had.

BuffySlayer79 i wouldn't say he stole Chaka Khan's song but he did sample it for his Through The Wire song. He also sampled Luther Vandross's A House Is Not A Home song for Twista & Jamie Foxx's Slow Jams song. Rappers aren't original anymore cause all they do is sample old r&b songs. I don't have a problem with old r&b songs being sampled. Some rappers don't even pay the r&b singers for sampling their music.

These are the songs that sampled older R&B tunes. I have the song "Through the Fire" by Chaka Kahn and "A House Is Not a Home" by Luther Vandross on CD. Ghostface Killah also sampled a soul classic Delfonics hit "La-La Means I Love You" into "Holla". I have the original song on both cassette and CD before Ghostface sampled it.

After seeing so many songs sampled by rappers, it's good to see hip-hop always playing to its strengths.

It's just too bad that original ideas aren't one of them!

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Vibe magazine president Kenard Gibbs says the violent altercation at the publication's awards show this year won't prevent it from holding the event in 2005.

"We're doing the awards show next year," Gibbs says. "If we don't, it will be counter to all the things we have been able to do with the brand and the culture."

Since the fracas that interrupted the taping of Vibe's awards show Nov. 15, G-Unit member Young Buck -- who allegedly stabbed the man who hit Dr. Dre -- is out on bail after turning himself in to authorities.

Calling such violence "sickening," Gibbs says we have to ponder the hip-hop culture's mentality. "Violence has unfortunately been associated with hip-hop since its beginnings."

Gibbs also wonders what negative effects the Vibe altercation, as well as a recent brawl at an Indiana Pacers-Detroit Pistons game, may have on the marketing strides black artists and athletes have made and on the participation of hip-hop acts in other shows.

"There's a common theme to all this," Gibbs adds. "Young black males gone wild. Taking street mentality to resolve conflict and bringing it into entertainment and sports has gone unchecked. All of us within the culture have to look at this and develop some means of accountability."

Vibe's January issue will examine not only the awards-night incident but attitudes within hip-hop culture that may bear some responsibility.

"This is paramount in terms of understanding what allows things to get to that point," Gibbs says. "That night took from the whole spirit of what the show is about: the best in urban music. We still have faith in the culture. We will rise above and endure."

Bill O'Reilly will bitch about rappers regardless. He got on Pepsi's case for hiring Ludacris to endorse their product because of explicit lyrics in his songs, O'Reilly had no problem when someone with a clean wholesome image like Ozzy Osbourne ended up doing Pepsi commercials. O'Reilly is a hypocrite ***hole. Seriously, if someone gives O'Reilly something to bitch about, they must be doing something right, in my book.
