View Full Version : The 1974-1975 Season That Never Was
Wildchats 11-05-2001, 10:07 PM Hmmm..the Brady bunch thought they wer'nt gonna get cancelled and were going to return for another season. How would have it been? What would have happened? Lets hear some ideas of episodes that could have aired?
My Ideas: Ok...lets see...
1.Greg goes to Community College
2.Cindy's gets her first bra
3.Bobby introduces geeky oliver to his class
4.Jan gets her first date
5.Peter mistakenly takes candy and doesnt pay
6.Greg meets a girl at school and they go out
7.Marcia runs for senior prom queen
8.Cindy gets her first kiss
9.Bobby wins the spel-athon in class
10. Marcia is in charge of $$$ from fundraise
11. Peter goes out with Jan's friend
12. Oliver loses his glasses
13. Cindy looses a jump rope contest
14. Greg/Marica get accepted to UCLA
15. Jan gets better grades than Peter
16. Marcia Graduates
17. Alice gets proposed to
18. Alice Gets Married
This would be great closure after this.
Peter, Jan, Cindy, Bobby, and Oliver would reamain at the house, until a year from then, when Cindy, Bobby, and Oliver are the only ones left when Peter and Jan graduate and move out too.

boechsner 11-06-2001, 12:42 AM I don't see any of those happening at all. I heard that if there had been another season, Robert Reed would not have been on. Thus, they probably would have killed him off. There is no way they would have had Mike and Carol Brady divorce. That is unless, they really wanted to confront 1970's realism.
I could see Alice getting married, though. But I don't see Oliver being in another season. They probably would have written him off as going back with his family.

TV Guy 11-06-2001, 12:59 AM Yeah, I agree that Oliver would have disappeared. How long were his parents supposed to be out of the country, anyway? And didn't Jan have her first date in one of the actual episodes? Does Clark Tyson count?
Other than that, I think there are some good ideas there. Jan getting better grades than Peter could have been really good. I probably would have had Greg go to a school a little more prestigious than a community college, though. Wasn't he supposed to become a doctor?
Also, if this is supposed to be the last season, I would add a few episodes that deal with characters from the past. In "The Return of Bug Boy", Marcia competes with Harvey Klinger to be class valedictorian. In "The Return of Buddy Hinton", Cindy goes out on her first date with her former nemesis. In "The Return of Beebe Gallini", Mike is unhappy to find himself mentioned in an unflattering light in Beebe's new tell-all autobiography. And "Pass the Tabu II" finds the cursed Tiki idol (and Professor Whitehead) turning up in Los Angeles and bedeviling the Bradys all over again.
Wildchats 11-06-2001, 01:28 PM I think Greg would stay in the area, and then apply to UCLA at the same time as Marica so they both would go there in the fall.
Dfinitly Alice would get married by the time the series ended (If they had a true final season), since she was said to be married by the time the Brady Brides aired in 1981.
I didnt know Oliver's parents were out of the country...well I guess he could have been written off..he stunk big time!!LOL!
But there would have been enough space by the time Marcia and Greg moved out so that Bobby, Cindy, Jan, and Peter could live easily and not worry about Marcia or Greg hogging the bathroom!!!

corwayn2 11-06-2001, 02:22 PM Marcia was supposed to get the attic that season, because, it was Greg's turn in 1973-74, and it was arranged, first Greg, then Marcia, then Peter, then Jan, then Bobby, then Cindy
Wildchats 11-06-2001, 04:09 PM I think only up Jan getting the attic....then Bobby and Cindy would have their own rooms!!!LOL!!! Get it!!!!

ThomasE 11-06-2001, 06:45 PM I don't see how Cousin Oliver ruined the show. It was bound to get canceled anyway. I thought he was a cute kid. When was on "Weakest Link"(with the other Brady's), he said "Hi my name is Robbie Rist...and I hope I don't ruin this show either." LOL. He was funny.
TV Guy 11-06-2001, 06:50 PM In the last episode of the 74-75 season, Mike quits his job, the family moves to a beach house, and they all decide to put on a variety show.

I'm not sure how but adding another kid is usually a sign that a shows not gonna last much longer.
James 11-19-2001, 03:52 AM How about the following?
1. The Calderones from the episode entitled "Peter and the Wolf" (Phil Packer) return and open a Mexican restaurant, and eventually several more, and their concept becomes a national chain like Taco Bell.
2. Has the Wendy's franchise reached California by 1974? (In real life it started in 1969.) If not, Mike leaves his architectual firm and starts a local franchise of restaurants.
3. Since according to _Growing Up Brady_ seven of every thirteen episodes were supposed to be musical, the Brady Kids go on some talent shows, becoming famous like the Osmonds.
James 11-19-2001, 06:51 PM Like it was mentioned in _Growing Up Brady_ and one of N@N's "Pop Up Brady" episodes, three things were mentioned:
1. Jan wanted more serious episodes.
2. Bobby wanted a steady girlfriend.
3. Cindy wanted a horse.
There could be more.

Clark Tyson counts in my book. At the end Clark was attracted to Jan after seeing her in that light blue (and later, pink--production goof???) dress with knee-high socks to match.
julian bozo 12-13-2001, 08:44 PM Do you think a 6th season could have made it?
mamamiasweetpeaches 02-01-2002, 08:06 PM CLARK TYSON!!!! What a hottie in training he was !!!! I remember being a lil girl and thinking "Whose dat????"He was so cute. My sister is 7 years older than me. Once we were talking about Nick at Nite and she said "The Clark Tyson one was on last night.Remember him?" EVEN she thought he was hot!!!! I wonder what he looks like now!!!!!!
Cashodeen 02-18-2003, 04:49 AM Grrrrrrrrr, what's wrong with community colleges? Future doctors can go there too, infact they often do. :P
Seriously though, if Robert Reed wouldn't have been in season 6, I couldn't imagine it being worth it. I wonder if that is really true that they would have killed him off. That would definitely be the "Very Unbrady Season." Worst of all, if he died, what would happen to all those grooovy movies and spin offs. He couldn't come back to life!
Wildchats 02-18-2003, 02:06 PM Maybe he would be out of town for a year, possibly in China or something (((Remember in the Brady Movie those guys wanted to buy his design))).
Maybe he would have left the show for the year, but would still be alive. I guess in the premiere of season 6, it would be stated that wherever Mike went that day of Greg's graduation, that they loved his ideas very much and wanted to pay him mucho $$$$$, enough so that he can provide better for his family for the rest of their lives. He takes the job, yet in the premiere, it is stated that he does in fact come home to spend time with the kids and Carol before he leaves for the job.
As for if the show being renewed for a 7th season, it woulda been doubtful, since the show would not have been the same. Yet I think the plan would have worked with GREG going to a community college, getting a part time job or something related to his field of study, and being the man of the house while Mike is away.
I can just imagine, Greg doing all the things a grown up does (plumbing, electronics, ect. Fixing things when they break. He would rememble a grown -up Brady once the show came to an end.)
I think Carol would have it hard on her anniversary, and they could have done an episode like that.
Maybe if the show was renewed for a 7th year, Carol hears the news that Mike is not coming home and has to stay there another few months.
I think it would work a 7th year, but after that it would be getting old. I think in the finale, he would eventually return after being away from the show for a year/2 and film a good version of the finale, even if its only a small role.
Bryon 02-18-2003, 03:29 PM If there was to be a season 6 they would have Mike killed in the script.
So episode one would obviously have a new theme song, and Mike would be killed. I'm sure Oliver would have stayed.
Cashodeen 02-19-2003, 01:40 AM (I don't know how much this has been discussed in the past so forgive me if I am bringing up a dead topic)
Was it ever officially confirmed that Mike was going to be killed off in the script? Some have said it really was only an idea they were considering. That's what I always have thought.
I think Wildchats has some great idears. I did say before without Robert Reed it wouldn't have been worth it for me, but I dunno. Maybe if there was a believable story about his disappearance another season or two would could have been SUPER COOL.
Wildchats 02-19-2003, 02:24 AM Well, maybe they could have had A live-in father figure stay with them. (They already had a live-in maid)
Maybe Mike would have a brother, or Carol oa brother that would stay while Mike is away to be the father figure around the house.

An alternative to having Mike killed off was to have him leave for an extensive architectural project, never to return. (In one of the "behind the scenes" specials, I thought I heard Sherwood Schwartz entertain the idea of a project in Timbuktu.)
richheart 02-22-2003, 12:55 PM Greg Brady flunks out of State U in the middle of his first fall semester, so he has to go to City College. While there, he meets a lot of long-haired hippie types.
More slapstick is incorporated, and there is some type of falling wedding cake or cream-pie throwing scene in every 3rd episode.
Robert Reed leaves the show in disgust, and the show quickly becomes an embarrassing imitation of The Partridge Family, a musical family group with cousin Oliver on drums. It gets cancelled in late 1975.
richheart 02-22-2003, 01:07 PM A live-in father figure? I didn't think of that. Ken Berry would be the natural choice for that role. I think he's the actor who played the father on that one episode Brady spinoff, where the family with the young son adopt the black boy and the Asian boy.

I personally liked the musical episodes of The Brady Bunch. I think if the Bunch morphed into the Partridge Family (or became the equivalent of the Cowsills--remember "Hair", "Indian Lake", and "The Rain, The Park, and Other Things"?) I'd enjoy watching it. LOTS of plots are possible!
(Speaking of which, Does any network currently air episodes of The Partridge Family?)
