View Full Version : Episodes where I really hated Lamont.
GARFIELDKOOL 11-12-2004, 12:16 PM He was my least favorite character on the show hands down. Here are the episodes where the devil came out of him and why I can't stand him.
The Barracuda: At the beginning of the episode he was bi-ching to Fred about why he dinner wasn't ready for him when he got off of work. A 30 something man needs his father to cook his meals? If I was Fred, I would told him to kiss my ass.
The Return of the Barracuda: He started that whole argument at dinner. Acted like a child. I didn't like how he treated Donna. She did nothing to him.
By the numbers: Fred won $600 and Mr. Bigmouth had to tell all Fred's friends and relatives that he had money. Fred ended up spreading the wealth until he was broke and robbed out the last $50 bucks.
Have gun, will sell: Him and Rollo made Fred pawn that gun for money. Fred didn't want to do it in the first place. So when he attempted and failed, Lamont blew up at Fred and blamed him for everything. I wasn't mad at Rollo.
Fred, Carol and Fred and Donna: He arranged a date where Donna and that woman Carol showed up at the same time. he did nothing but cause trouble.
Members of the wedding aka the engagement: Once again the trouble maker struck. Inviting Esther and the other relatives that Fred couldn't stand over. A fight nearly broke out, and Donna went away in tears.
This land is whose land?: Fred and Julio were at odds over property. Instead of Lamont taking up for his own father, he backs Julio. Damn benedict Arnold. It seems to me that Lamont hates Fred.
I hope I made my point clear. Anyone else agree?
glenny 11-13-2004, 06:56 PM He was also a jerk in the episode where Grady gets two social security checks. Since most of that money was going into the house (paying bills and buying groceries) he should have just kept his mouth shut.
GARFIELDKOOL 11-17-2004, 03:25 PM Oh yeah, I forgot about those episodes. A chance for them to get over for a change and he wanted to be honest. Don't get me wrong, being honest is good, but sometimes it doesn't pay to be honest, literally and figurally speaking.
Lady T 11-17-2004, 04:04 PM I did not like the way that Lamont was always patronzing his father, to me, it showed that Lamont did not have any respect for his own dad, whom, raised his only child alone without any support, you would had thought that Lamont would be more grateful, but instead he was arrogant and demeaning.
GARFIELDKOOL 11-18-2004, 11:24 AM I liked the episode where that african princess Lamont was trying to get with, she put him in his place and told him he should have more respect for his father. It was about time somebody did that.
glenny 11-20-2004, 08:31 AM Fred: "Kalunda?? That name doesnt sound right for a junk
dealer. With a name like that you should be driving a
elephant..not a truck!"
Sanford's Son 11-23-2004, 03:31 AM Lamont acted childish in alot of eposides, but so did Fred. It just wouldnt be the same if each other wasnt always getting on the others nerves.
teddybare 12-21-2004, 03:20 AM here's another one where lamont was a jerk. the one where junior cooper died. and fred and all his friends wanted to have a party with fast fannie and her girls. and he called fast fannie and told her a lie to come later so he could wear all of them out dancing and drinking so they couldnt have their party.
he'such a hypocrite look at all the partys he has had he actually had the nerve to try and forbid fred from having the party and fred told him FORBID MEE IS YOU A FOOL.
teddybare 12-21-2004, 03:25 AM Fred in lamont goes african
Fred to lamont-I wish I had you in Nigeria I'd knock you out lmao :)
glenny 12-22-2004, 07:27 AM He was also kind of jerky in the episode where Fred gets rear ending by the stolen car. All Fred was trying to do was get some extra money (like no one has ever exaggerated a injury to get a little extra money...this is the cornerstone of most law firms today.) That new truck that Fred was trying to buy was like a Rolls Royce compared to his old truck; and Lamont would be the one driving it anyway.
GARFIELDKOOL 09-05-2007, 07:21 PM Bump for new life of activity on the board.
Ireneparalegal 09-05-2007, 07:22 PM Great thread. I wholeheartedly agree with you. Your points are on the mark!
catlover79 09-05-2007, 11:53 PM Fred was definitely the fun Sanford in the family!
DirtyHarry 09-15-2007, 10:16 AM Yeah, Lamont was designed to mainly be the straight one, although he was clearly childish many times noted on this thread. In many of the instances on this thread he was trying to keep Fred out of trouble or doing something stupid. But Lamont loved his father (remember when he had his trip with Julio cancelled because he was worried about Fred?). Don't be too hard on Lamont. Fred ruined many of Lamont's dates and refused to allow him to have a party...

Yeah, but Lamont was too mean-spirited, especially in season 1.
Sonny Carson 11-17-2019, 12:44 AM I hated Lamont in the 'Wine Women and Esther', and 'The Members Of The Wedding' episodes. Lamont has one thing in common with 'J.J.' from Good Times', he's more tolerable in the later seasons of the show than the earlier ones. Though I didn't dislike J.J. as much earlier as I did Lamont!
MIKEPR 11-22-2019, 08:26 PM Lamont might have been troublesome at times himself.
He was probably wrong for expecting Fred to cook for him and he went against his dad's wishes in certain cases and while not to excuse his actions you have to consider his father was not the nicest man in the world and treated him badly all the time and if you grow up with a parent like that it's probably gonna make them angry and resentful towards that parent.
He seemed pretty nice to others and certainly didn't pick of his fathers ways.
1 other thing such as the case when that Japanese family wanted to buy the entire block for a brewery and was mad at his father for not signing the papers he should have figure he decided years earlier to remain with his father and not move out and better himself and it was times like that when it was worthless to be angry with his father..
Fred enjoyed owning the business and had every right not to sell.
Steve Carras 06-24-2021, 07:03 PM I liked the episode where that african princess Lamont was trying to get with, she put him in his place and told him he should have more respect for his father. It was about time somebody did that.
I was thinking of that! And also the princess's parents golt upset! You could heaer them through ther door (mental image of door)

I disagree with some of this..... Yeah Lamont was 30 and all, BUT the business was a PARTNERSHIP.... Lamont did the OUTSIDE work and Fred did the INSIDE work....although Fred rarely did much work.... Lamont basically ran the place on his own and was Fred's means of support, so I think it's the least Fred could do to have a meal waiting on his son when he got in from a hard day's work. I mean lets face it, Lamont could survive without Fred, but Fred couldn't make it without Lamont or SOMEONE to do the outside "heavy" work that Fred couldn't do.
And I can sorta see why Lamont had hostility toward Donna.... from what I remembered she REALLY took control when she was in the Sanford home. I can imagine Lamont felt like she was trying to replace his mother.
So yeah I can understand why Lamont was bitter a lot... How would you feel if you basically ran the WHOLE BUSINESS, did 99% of the work, supported your father, did hard, heavy lifting all day, coming home worn-out and sore just to be called a DUMMY all the time.... I'd be pretty mad too
MIKEPR 06-26-2021, 08:53 AM Uh don't forget Fred started the business before Lamont was even born so don't give us the nonsense that Fred couldn't survive without Lamont.
Though I can also understand him being hostile to his dad.

I'm saying at Fred's CURRENT age ~that it was during the show ~ and his inability to do the heavy muscle work, he couldn't survive without Lamont or SOMEONE to help him with the heavy stuff. In Sanford the spinoff, that is why he got Cal to help him. No way ould Fred get out on the truck and do the work Lamont does
MIKEPR 06-26-2021, 10:28 PM Maybe so but someone else could have taken over and since Fred was over 60 he could have retired as well.
Fallon97 07-14-2021, 06:48 PM Well, I'm a big fan of Lamont. I don't take things in a comedy show that seriously where I hate any of the characters. At most, I would probably be indifferent towards them, but when I watch a comedy show, I just relax and have fun. It's an escape for me.
MikeLutton 07-15-2021, 09:52 PM i like when they defend each other against their 2 dates they had that one time with donna.

The only thing that makes me a little mad is how nasty Fred is to poor Esther. I mean I know she can be over-bearing but he NEVER lets up on her, even when she tries to be nice to him.
MikeLutton 07-16-2021, 07:40 AM HE Was nice to her a few times
TheLittleFaerie 07-17-2021, 05:15 AM HE Was nice to her a few times
The only time I can recall, is when he helped vouch for her that she would make a good mom to her adopted son.
Even when the shooter was after him and he was in the hospital he tried to get her to stand in front of the window to get shot
TVFactFan 07-18-2021, 02:00 AM That social security check with Grady. Why would he care it was going to benefit the household?
TheLittleFaerie 07-18-2021, 04:45 AM That social security check with Grady. Why would he care it was going to benefit the household?
Lamont was likely scared the gov would discover their mistake and there would be trouble, I think he even mentioned that
TVFactFan 07-18-2021, 01:42 PM Lamont was likely scared the gov would discover their mistake and there would be trouble, I think he even mentioned that
Even at the end when it was mentioned they made another mistake, he still wanted to tell lol
MikeLutton 07-18-2021, 06:51 PM don't forget the mamas baby papa's mabye episode
