View Full Version : Funniest Character? Petrie Malone 11-07-2004, 10:05 PM Who, in your opinion, was the funniest character of the show? Kurt Larry Surrell 11-07-2004, 10:20 PM It has to be Buddy. After all, he was the human joke machine  Lolac 11-08-2004, 09:06 AM Buddy goes without saying. He is a riot. I also love Millie. She has a very dry wit and doesn't hesitate to say what she thinks. Lolac  jillm816 11-08-2004, 10:35 AM That's a hard question! But I think the character that makes me laugh out loud the most is Dick Van Dyke. Buddy and Sally are definitely witty and they have perfect timing, but it's Dick's physical comedy and facial expressions that I love! The scene in that episode "My Husband is not a Drunk" where he is trying to rescue the girl from the lining of his jacket...makes me laugh just thinking about it!! Of course I have had a bit of a crush on Dick Van Dyke since I was little so I am sort of biased... Petrie Malone 11-08-2004, 11:05 AM Buddy and Sally were the funniest to me. They had some of the best lines of the whole show! SawgrassSteve 11-08-2004, 11:26 AM For me it's Rob, hands down. Dick Van Dyke's responses to comments from other characters, his body language, and even his facial expressions are clear reasons why he was pitched as Reiner's replacement in the roll. Steve Lolac 11-08-2004, 11:40 AM jillm816, It is nice to see another Virginian on this board. I think there are at least 3 more, including me. I live in Fairfax Station, just up the road from you. And I have to agree with you about Dick Van Dyke and his physical comedy. He is without equal. I love the scene in "The Return of Happy Spangler" where they do the lecture on comedy. A classic. Lolac :happyface jamier42 11-08-2004, 07:16 PM Rob, Buddy peculiargirl 11-08-2004, 11:55 PM In my opinion, Rob himself is the funniest character. But I think the dynamic of Buddy and Sally together makes for the funniest moments. I really miss them in episodes where they are not featured prominently. The DVDS provides a nice escape from reality. Jill Petrie Malone 11-11-2004, 11:55 PM On a little different note, our favorite couple Rob and Laura Petrie have made Bravo's list of the 100 greatest TV characters. They are at 78. I don't know who the top ten characters are but it would be great if Buddy and/or Sally was in it! (The show airs on Bravo Nov. 22-26 if you want to watch... I don't know the times tho!) Kurt Carrie 11-12-2004, 12:25 PM Dick Van Dyke is definitely my favorite. I love his ability to do physical comedy so well. My favorite episode to watch him in is The Cat Burglar. The scene with Laura's music box is priceless. Buddy is also incredibly funny. The way he can just come up with a joke using any word or phrase takes a lot of talent. Also, it's so sweet how they're scared of each other, because they think one another is the burglar, haha, it's funny too. That's one of my favorite episodes ;) Nora 11-29-2004, 12:55 PM Toss up between DVD and MTM...they're both terrific. No one will ever top Laura's "Oh, ROB," moments, IMHO! Moondance 11-29-2004, 01:53 PM Any scene that involves Buddy and Mel together! HAHAHA! grnacrsfan 12-13-2004, 11:55 PM I think Rob, Buddy, and Sally are the funniest in their own special ways. Rob for his physical comedy and Buddy and Sally for their witty remarks. |
