View Full Version : I Still put Music on Casettes
D-Dey 10-22-2004, 12:10 PM Many of you may think I'm an old fuddy-duddy, but for kicks, I still like to make my own music compliations and put them on casettes. Some have actual themes, others don't. Two tapes I have involve different songs with the same titles, and for my latest addition, I've been cosnidering adding a Christy Carlson Romano song behind a Midnight Oil song. Well as it turns out, I couldn't do it, because the Midnight Oil song is called "Surf's Up," and the CCR song that I thought was titled "Surf's Up"(partially because it was used in an Even Stevens episode of that title) was actually titled "Dawn Patrol."
Oh, well. I guess I'll have to add something else there instead.
Penny Lane 10-22-2004, 07:17 PM Hi! I am ashamed to admit that I still don't own a CD player. I still use cassettes. I have so many that I don't see the point in switching! The same goes for DVD's. I still use VHS! I have over a 100 of them and I don't intend to throw them out! Oh well, ................................. I don't accept change very well! That is a very large trait of us Taurus's. We hate change!
AllIWantIsYourClutch 10-22-2004, 07:50 PM I have a cassette player in my car, so I use them too.

Well, I do have a CD & DVD player. I just don't record onto either one, although I think I should. But I also record off of CD's, LP's and 45's. If I had the equipment, I'd record off of 8-tracks and reel-to-reel tapes as well. And I have a tape deck in my car too, but it's broken.
musicradio77 10-23-2004, 11:47 AM I have a cassette deck and I sometime use cassettes to record off the radio or if it's a great idea that I can converting into a CD from cassettes, LP's, 8-tracks, etc. I'm sure I do. I got rid most of the cassettes that I own because my mother told me that I got too much in my collection. That's sad.:( I can make CD's.:)
Mijada 10-25-2004, 06:50 PM I don't use cassettes much anymore. I never really had very many of them to begin with. I got my first CD player in 1988 and have been collecting CDs ever since.

Ah, but do you record CD's as well? That's the question.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 10-25-2004, 09:11 PM Wooo, I think I have some Barney sing-a-long cassettes. Sweet.
I was afraid of those things, the tape in it would get screwed up. I remember once we had a Lea Ann (sp?) Rimes tape in at my cousins and it sounded like a man was singing because it got screwed up.
And in the future...we'll shove these glowing things in our ears to listen to music :) People will be deaf before their 18th birthdays.
TheGreatPretender 10-25-2004, 09:15 PM I remember when I was 12 I did all my favorite songs on one tape and organized it the order I liked it. My tape player doesn't work anymore though. http://www.tvlinksonline.com/ubb/icons/icon8.gif
SBTB Geek 10-26-2004, 12:37 PM I don't think I've used a cassette since 1992 or a VHS since 1997.
Steve M. 11-09-2004, 12:41 AM I still use cassettes! I have store-bought cassette albums, plus several vinyl records I've transferred to cassette - and CD's I've taped so I can listen to them on the cassette deck in my car! :) (A car CD player was much too expensive for me!)
Steve M. 11-09-2004, 12:42 AM Behold, a cassette!

TheHappyBurgerMeister 11-09-2004, 04:20 AM I still record my CD's onto cassette. Mainly just to listen to songs in the car because my cars (or my parents cars) have cassette players, not CD players. Or else just to make mix tapes... until recently because my new computer has a CD burner!
I like to record on cassettes too, I bet I have 50 or more that I've recorded
on but I also listen to CD's too.
Jrnygrl 03-06-2007, 01:32 AM Shhhhhhh! RIAA may be listening!:lookaroun :lookaroun :seeya:
Steve M. 03-12-2012, 10:06 AM Well, I just got a new car, and this car has an in-dash CD player with no cassette deck, but I did manage to find a Sony CD/cassette player. I have some rare CDs I'd like to tape for backup. Now if I could only find out where I can still get blank tapes!
JoPol_wannabe 03-12-2012, 04:36 PM I still have a cassette player, I do like Cd's and I also have an mp3 player but there are a few things about a cassette player that Cd players or Mp3 can't do. Like for example a cassette player you can recorde songs from the radio, I know mp3 are only 99 cents but recording songs from the radio is FREE. Also cassette players have a rewind button like if you only want to rewind just a part of the song and not have to hit the skip back button that takes you back to the beginning of the song. I think you can slowly rewind a CD if you hold the skip back button a certian amount of time but it also can screw up your cd. But the only bad thing about cassettes is that they were made of tape and if it got caught inside the cassette player you had to be so careful of how you took them out or you could rip the tape and then your cassette would never play again where if you scratch a cd there are things you can use to repair scratches like cd cleaners or scratch pens. But I still like my cassette player and use it every once in a while.
duckie 03-12-2012, 04:47 PM I have dozens of cassettes that i listen to, and like a few other posters have said, i still record songs from the radio as well. But i still like my cd's best.
TheCars1986 03-12-2012, 04:54 PM I have the iPod classic, which holds which seems like an endless supply of songs (I think it's like 250 GB or something like that) so CD's and cassettes are obsolete to me. Although not that long ago all I had was a cassette deck in my car so that's all I could listen too.
Zoneboy 03-12-2012, 05:19 PM Now if I could only find out where I can still get blank tapes!
Try Goodwill, I get sealed blanks in there quite often and the usually sell for .50 each depending on the location. Some of the ones I've found are in high demand on eBay and have great resell value. I purchased a box of 10 Maxell XL II 90 minute high bias tapes for $5 and sold them for $80. The standard normal bias tapes don't bring as much but they do sell.

Okay, thanks - now I just have to look for a consignment shop! :)

When I was a kid I used a tape recroder to tape songs as they came out of the radio speaker! Later, I got a tape player/radio receiver and did it properly. But of course, songs fade into one another on the radio to discourage home copying. I did manage to tape "Alice's Restaurant" with no fade-in from one song and no fade-out into another, though.

Actually, the most they have is 160 GB, but that's pretty big compared to the current iPhones, iPod Touches, and iPads. The most they have are 64 GBs.
