View Full Version : Do you think there should be a new Superman movie? (multiple choice) Dean Winchester 10-21-2004, 11:32 AM which do you think, since it looks like a go. Dean Winchester 10-21-2004, 03:35 PM I went for the second, third, fourth and sixth options Nighthawk76 10-21-2004, 03:47 PM I think the Superman series actually ran its course after the second film. The third film, which co-starred Richard Pryor was a joke, and film four was only slightly better. When Richard Pryor starts showing up in Superman films, then I think it is time to call it a day. I am Him 10-21-2004, 04:16 PM Originally posted by DAX I think the Superman series actually ran its course after the second film. The forth film was the one that killed the franchise. When they begin having superman literally push the moon with his hands, its time to call it a day. I am Him 10-21-2004, 04:18 PM I believe a new superman could work. Especially with modern special effects. They created some great flying scenes with Neo in Matrix: Reloaded. Similar techniques can be applied to superman. I would like to see the new superman film set in the 30s. The decade in which the character was created. It does not compare to the first two, but it still had some good moments. But 4 was just awful, tho I admit I liked it as a kid, but even then thought it was a weaker film than 1-3. musicradio77 10-21-2004, 10:54 PM Christopher does not do the Superman movies, because he died a week ago. His four Superman movies are just enough for me. dandelion wine 10-22-2004, 12:39 AM I chose the 2nd option. Liza 10-22-2004, 02:54 AM He JUST died. We don't need to be trying to recast his signture role right this moment. Sheesh. How would we like it if they'd announced a new Jack Tripper the week John Ritter died? Nighthawk76 10-22-2004, 03:20 AM Well, Hollywood I'm sure isn't concerned about ethics. I could easily see a studio using Reeve's death as publicity for a new Superman movie. Dean Winchester 10-22-2004, 12:58 PM Originally posted by Full House Christopher does not do the Superman movies, because he died a week ago. awwww, no. I haven't heard  oh well, maybe I was thinking the Salkinds were going to bargain and borrow Christopher and Marlon's ghosts and do another Superman movie :D Liza 10-22-2004, 04:45 PM Originally posted by I am Him Superman has been around alot longer than Reeve. So what? It was still the man's most famous role. I just think it's really nasty to announce a new one right this second. Aside from that - with the old TV show, the cartoon, Lois & Clark, Smallville, and the movies - do we need another one? Ewan's My Man 10-24-2004, 01:51 PM I dunno, I mean, I LOVE the old one's with Christopher Reeve in them, absolutely love them, and they're not that old, however I know that nowadays they could have different special effects that make it a lot better but *shrugs*. As for the whole Christopher Reeve thing, my opinions are (and I'm a huge fan of his just to mention as a side note) there had already been a lot of discussion of making a new Superman movie, it's not like it was something that just came about. And also, with the whole Jack Tripper reference, that show like the Superman movies have run it's course and have been completed for years so the only reason the original actors would have to play their original characters was if it was a reunion movie/show. Now if they were trying to make a reunion Superman movie, first of all that movie would be suicide in itself, but THAT is the situation when they shouldn't recast characters. As for remakes of the movies, Christopher Reeve wouldn't be playing Superman in it so I don't exactly see what the issue is especially since it's been in the works. Don't get me wrong, I feel it would be extremely disrespectful if it came out like...tomorrow. So it's not really the question of Christopher Reeve or the movies in my opinion, to me it's: Has it been enough time to make remakes? I agree with that too, Superman was released about 26 years ago. While that has been awhile, it really has not been anywhere near long enough to go "well, this is a new Superman, since the old ones are vintage". I can see maybe in 20 years doing a new one, but as of now, the Reeve movies still serve their purpose for a Superman movie. Yea, exactly, I mean, yea you watch them and the special effects aren't like what they are today but I mean, God, I saw part of Titanic the other day and when she's standing on the side of the boat have you seen the water? Those special effects aren't what they're like today either, but it's not like we should run out and make a remake of that. I agree with what you said about the whole maybe in 20 years doing a new one, but as of now, it just seems sort of pointless. spunkygirl 10-24-2004, 07:07 PM I think it's way too soon. Chris is irreplaceable IMO. If they want to do a movie, I say wait till Smallville is over and have Tom Welling just play Superman on the big screen, IMO it's a slap in the face to him since he's on Smallville. Not that Tom could ever replace Chris, but I think it would have made Chris proud for Tom to be Superman, he was Tom's mentor on the show after all :) If they want to do one, I would say in about 3 or 4 years, with Smallville and Lois and Clark and the original Superman movies still so popular, they'd be better off to wait Ewan's My Man 10-24-2004, 07:19 PM Originally posted by Angela Micelli I think it's way too soon. I read that somewhere, I think he doesn't want to be typecast as Superman the rest of his career is probably why. There's nothing wrong with that, it did good things for Chris and for Dean :) I did read something not too long ago that he said in a few years they asked he would consider it, but not now, he doesn't want to confuse the Smallville audience since he's only Clark on Smallville. |
