View Full Version : Is it really necessary for a Female with kids to say that she is.....
TVFactFan 10-17-2004, 11:16 AM a HOMEBODY?-LOL I mean it's quite obvious why she is a homebody if she is a single mother. I'm asking because my friend told me recently that he met a girl who said she was a homebody after stating she had two kids. She had to know that was a very dumb statement.
Brian Damage 10-17-2004, 11:29 AM I don't get what's wrong with that statement.

 Why is it dumb? Just because she's single with 2 kids, doesn't automatically make her a homebody ohno:
Would he rather she lie and say does such and such instead of being a homebody?
Statements like that is probably why your friend is still single ;)
There is absolutely nothing wrong with that statement
Kazza 10-17-2004, 01:02 PM I am a single mother of 2 kids! Does that makes me a 'homebody'?? Great! at least I'm not being called a slut!

What I'm trying to say is a single mother doesn't need to give an explanation as to why she is home a lot. On the other hand, a female without kids has to give a reason why she is home all the time because there is nothing stopping her from leaving the house.

Except for her grave desire to stay away from men like you...

When I had no kids I would stay home the same! Just because I'm a woman doesn't mean that I have to be out and about. There's nothing wrong with being a homebody
Lodee 10-17-2004, 01:45 PM Yeah, I don't think having kids or not defines you as a homebody. A homebody is more just anyone who prefers to stay home.

You are right, there is nothing wrong with being a homebody. What I'm saying is a single mother doesn't have say that she is a homebody because the guy she is telling it to will already know because women with kids are not able to get out as much as a women without kids.

That's true but i don't know too many single mothers who are able to go out whenever they want.
Kazza 10-17-2004, 03:33 PM So what's your poin t? A single woman should have a 'social life' because of the standards that society has labeled her? There are too many things 'out there' that prevents any single woman this days not to be a homebody.

No i'm not saying a single woman wihout kids should be out and about, i just thought it was funny that a single mother said she was a homebody because most single mothers don't get out that much to start with.

Euh, okay... but the fact that some single mothers are not homebodies makes it normal for her to say that she is one. It's not like there is a direct correlation between the two. You can't just assume these things, even if they are more common, because it's not always that way.

It makes sense ; most single mothers have their priorities straight and their children come first and foremost and before anyone else..and that prevents most single mothers to have a social life. I rather be with my kids than out there socializing.Just 'cause we don't have a 'real'social life doesn't mean we are homebodies; women with children participate in their children's school activities (plays, games) , volunteer in school and have neighbors to talk to ; that's getting 'out there' ; just in a different way.
Dean Winchester 10-17-2004, 06:47 PM well, I understand both sides. It's good to put your children first but if you get too caught up in your children, you lose yourself in the process. I have a friend who is a single (widow) mother of 2 daughters ages 9 and 12, her kids are very important to her and she is a great parent, but at the same time, she doesn't let her children rule her life. She still spends a lot of "alone time" with her boyfriend, and things like that, she is able enough to be able to balance out "mom time" and "me time". Some parents get so preoccupied with their children that they lose the "me time", that is why I would never want kids until I'm at least 35.

It is very important to have 'me time' that way you can unwind and start over again. I try to do it everytime I can! When I say that my children come first, it means that no man is to take that time away from me and they have to understand that; at least for now since my kids are small.
Jo_Polniaczek 10-17-2004, 07:51 PM I've never even heard the word 'homebody' used before. Maybe I should get out more? ;)

Really?-LOL Another term that's used to describe a person that stays home a lot is "A SHUT IN"-lol Have you heard that one?
TheGreatPretender 10-17-2004, 08:02 PM Um...ok.

well, yes, I suppose it's all about the ages of the kids, my friends daughters are 9 and 12, so they don't command the same amount of undivided attention that they did when the were 1 and 4, but I didn't know her back then.
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 10-17-2004, 08:57 PM Wow. I agree with Solomon.
