I've actually been meaning to post this question for awhile. The 80s are one of my favorite decades for movies - being the huge opera nut that I am, Amadeus is of course my favorite. But there were tons of great films made that deserved there Oscars just as much (well, almost). ;)

This was not easy.. I've gotta go with The Last Emperor.

Great topic! It was hard for me too, but I chose Terms of Endearment. It was between that and Ordinary People.

The Big Chill:D

I think it was nominated (1983). My pick for best 80's film!

From the list I choose Terms Of Endearment:)

The last Emperor.

However that list is no where near the best the 80s had to offer.

I do love Ordinary People. That's probably my #2 choice. My parents were living right where it was shot, and apparently Mary Tyler Moore and Judd Hirsch were picked up for drunk driving from the wrap party! True story!

That's hilarious! Well, not that they were drunk driving, but that they got picked up for it at the wrap party. Thanks for sharing that!

Did anyone know that Shane Rimmer (the voice of Scott Tracy in Thunderbirds) made a cameo in that movie?

Well i love 80's movies but i guess some of the ones i like wouldn't be considered classics or the best picture of the 80's such as Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Stand by Me, Say Anything, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and many many more.

Raging Bull is really the best picture of the 1980's. Unfortunately, the Academy didn't see it that way. Out of these choices, I went with Platoon.

"Platoon," "Ghandi," and "Rain Man."

^I agree, "The Breakfast Club" is a GREAT film. Movies like those usually don't receive respect immediately, they mostly gain it as time pases. I'm sure "The Breakfast Club" wasn't respected as much in the 80s and 90s as it is now.

Another example is "Donnie Darko." That movie was practically ignored back in 2001, but now, it is a favorite to many.

The same will go for "Mean Girls." It's currently seen as nothing but a mainstream teen flick, and its greatness is usually covered by all this Hilary VS Lindsay garbage. One day it will be taken for what it truly is... a classic.
