View Full Version : Mark David Chapman Might Be Released From Prison This Week

Mark David Chapman who killed John Lennon in December of 1980, may be released from prison this week after serving 24 years for the murder of the ex-Beatle. I am troubled to hear this. Lennon has been one of my heros since freshman year of high school, and I don't want to see the man who killed him free. I think that Chapman should spend the rest of his life behind bars. Besides I don't think that 24 years is enough of a punishment for ending another human being's life. I do not believe in the death penalty but Chapman (and anyone who takes away a person's life) should never see the light of day again.

I heard that somewhere. People were saying that "24 years wasn't enough time for the murder of one of the best singers", yadda yadda yadda... I don't care if someone kills the president, or a homeless bum on the streets. It's still a person.

I think this guy deserves another 30 years or so.

They need to keep his sorry ass in prison.

They denied him last time, let's hope they make the same decision this time around. My father has been a Beatles/John Lennon fan for as long as I can remember - he's going to freak if it happens. And you can bet I'll be pissed.

And what sources do you have to back that up.

No sir. I think he should be put to death. An eye for an eye. But to say he will never get out it kinda narrow-minded.

I agree that death is too good for someone like him.

even if Chapman got out, how long do you think he'd make it before someone shot him? There are so many hardcore Beatles/Lennon fans who wouldn't feel bad about hurting Chapman.

I don't agree with the death penalty. I do think Mark should stay behind bars for life. I mean, how does anyone know he might just go and get obsessed with someone else and shoot someone again. And, all the pain Yoko Ono, and his sons Sean and Julian went through. And the other former Beatles: Paul, George and Ringo. If he's let out of jail it would send out a message that there is no consequence for people who stalk and kill another person, whether the victim be well-known or not well-known. I don't agree with the death penalty because it would be like putting Mark out of his misery in prison. Make him stay miserable and stay in jail for life .

I also agree with what Buffyslayer79 said. It probably wouldn't be long before Mark himself got shot by someone. I mean, looking back in history at the JFK assassination, when Lee Harvey Oswald was going to trial before he even entered the courtroom, Jack Ruby shot Oswald. Someone in this crazy world just might try to shoot Chapman on the way to his trial.

Exactly. Someone I was close to was murdered almost six years ago, and he's going to spend the rest of his life behind bars instead of being put to death (which would be the easy way out). I'm glad. He's a young man, so that's potentially a lot of time.

I hope that what he did replays in his mind always.

Oswald was not being taken to trial, he was just being transfered
to Dallas County Jail from Dallas City Jail.

So what you are saying along with Buffy is he should stay in jail for his own safety??? If you murdered someone and their father, at the trail, said he would kill you if you ever got out and you got paroled, would you stay in because of that fear??? I don't think so. You would want to get on with your life. And as far as him going out and killing someone again-that's a chance society takes when they give out parole.

Also everyone here says that death would be the easy way out-BUT if you are religious person don't you think what is in store for him on the other side is going to be much worse???

Once again-I am not defending him. Kill his ass and let him rot in hell. But everyone must understand that if he was up for parole once and is coming up for it again, he can get out. Maybe not this time but maybe sometime.

but there's a difference. John Lennon is not just "someone's son". Chapman is hated by millions upon millions of people for taking Lennon away from the world. And I dunno if you've ever noticed it, but Beatles fans are quite fanatical. I don't think Chapman would ever be given the chance to "get on with his life" because rabid Lennon fans will feel killing him was worth it.

I don't think Chapman will ever be released. I've read many times that Charles Manson and his band of killers will never be released, even though they come up for parole too. The American psyche couldn't handle it.

I think that dirtbag Chapman falls into the same category.

Scott, Mark and OJ already have their spot in hell reserved for them

I'm not a Lennon fan but they won't let him out that's obvious.

Well I believe in the death penalty, but IMO life in prison is sometimes a much worse punishment.

No, I don't give a rat's ass about his safety. (Excuse my language). Just being a reincarnationist I see him passing on to the next life would be the easy way out for Mark. He should spend the rest of his present life in prison. He doesn't deserve the chance for parole. He took a music legend away from this earth for no good reason.

They really need to just throw that guy in a hole and forget about him forever; as far as i'm concerned he forfeited any right to freedom (or anything else) a long time ago.

I'm glad to hear that Chapman will be spending another two years behind bars. They should just give him life without possibility of parole and be done with it.
