But it's very, very minor compared to the 1980 eruption. We haven't seen anything like this since 1986. It's not going to hurt anyone, so right now I'm in "this is pretty cool" mode.

There was a really neat close-up aerial shot on one of my locals when the eruption was occuring. It was really neat.

Someone who has retired on Fox says magma is moving down in the volcano so it may not be done yet.

Besides, the eruptions are relatively minor, and right now people aren't allowed any closer than five miles from the volcano (at the Johnston Ridge Observatory).

Sorry, I didn't realize they were only allowed so close to it. From what I've seen on TV, it looked like they were right next to it. In fact, even the broadcaster was saying how they were crazy for being up there.

It looks closer because the TV cameras zoom in. ;)

They were in no danger at that observatory though. The USGS said before yesterday that the worst it could be was 3 miles out from the site and nothing is there anyway.
