I'm moving next week which explains my lack of posting lately. I think moving is one of the worst and most stressful things to do. The concept of having to move everything you own from one place to another is overwhelming.

I'm not talking about furniture. I've hired movers for that. It's the wrapping of glasses, dishes....boxes upon boxes....all the clothes. I have so much stuff. Next week, the fun starts with the unpacking.

Who's been through this nightmare? :wallbang

Me, last April. What a pain. You never realized that you had so much stuff until you pack it.

Moving is the absolute worst. I feel for you. Moving everything from Minnesota to Texas was a beyotch. A hassle. I never want to do that again.

I have. A total of 7 times in 11 years. Yeah, I NEVER want to move again.

Been there, done that, too. Quite a few times. After moving around a few times in one year, when I found my house, I said that was it!! I'm staying here for a long time.

You don't realize how much stuff you really have until you have to move it! You think you're almost done, then you see other things to pack. I would hate to have to pack & move all the crap I have in my house now.

Me all of my life every 3-4 years. My dad was Navy so I'm a bit of a pro at moving. Add to that the fact I am the youngest of 4 siblings and have helped them all move at least 3 or 4 times (some LOTS MORE then others) I have it down to a science.

Bull****. I moved out of my childhood home and it was grief to me, because I felt like I lost a piece of me. Sorry if you don't consider that grief, but tough ****.

i've only moved twice (once that i remember) and both times it was in the same city. i've been living in this house since i was 5 and i'll never move out of it. we were the first people to live here and i'd shoot myself if i saw anyone else owning it. for one thing it has a few permanent conditions (like the dents in my wall from when tim and kristina told me to fight with a broom) from things we've done and that just represent us and no one has the right to take something that will spiritually be THIS FAMILYS and no one else's forever. sO tHeRe.

The worst part about moving is that you lose a lot of stability growing up. Not that it's that big of a deal, but it does have an effect on your psychological state - especially if they're drastic moves and you have to part with all of your friends and familiar environments. I've been going through it every few years since I was 7 months old, going between 5 countries in 3 continents. On the other hand, it's a very good experience - teaches you a lot about different cultures, adaptation, etc.

I'm eager to get out of this house. I've lived here all my life. Everything has changed, it's depressing. It's only me my mom and her boyfriend now. My brother and sister are out on their own now so its just strange for me to be here all alone. I can't wait for my mom to sell this house and move on with her life.

If janice is stressed about moving, there's nothing she or you or i can do about it and she has every right to say how she feels. Why don't you stop bitching about people bitching and find someone more horrible in the world to be concerned about.

There are varying degrees of problems in life, and in the grand scheme of things, moving isn't way up there. However, it still sucks.

I know heartache. I lost my parents two years ago, two months apart, both from cancer. A year later, my 49 year-old sister died suddenly. I lost another sister 12 years ago. I know about grief, heartache and I can differentiate between major issues in life and just lousy things, like moving.

This thread is about moving. I knew when I posted my story on moving, it would create a dialog and others would share their stories. That's how it works around here. Just because your friend lost his home to a hurricane doesn't mean members can't post about mundane, pain in the neck issues in their lives.

So either stop shi tting in my thread or take a hike. I'm not in the mood for a troll.

I admit, I like where I live now. My old neighborhood suddenly became infected with *******s right before we moved. It was still hard at first though.

I've only moved twice in my life. The first time was in Feb. 1979 when I was just 2 1/2 years old. I have no memory of this move. We moved again in Feb 1985 when I was 8 1/2. This move was much harder on me because I had to change schools mid way through the year. This meant that I had to leave all my friends (not to mention a cute girl I liked) behind and start over again at a school where I knew nobody and there for had no friends. Being quiet and shy it took me along time to make new friends. I was miserable the whole rest of the school year. I didn't feel like I fit in until the following school year. When I attended college at Michigan State University I had a different dorm room each year but that wasn't really like moving because I was on the same campus. The only problem with the dorm experience was my freshman roommate, Denny! What a slob! We used to fight over music too. He was really into punk and played the Sex Pistols until my head was ready to explode. The rest of my college career I had my own dorm room!

There was a large building establishment celebrating it's new location in town. They had a very big party, with lots of guests, and many flowers were being sent in from flower shops. The owner read through all of the cards with the flowers, and noticed one that said, "Rest in Peace." He was quite upset about this, and phoned the flower shop asking what the problem was. "Oh, we're very sorry," said the lady at the flower shop, "there was a mix up between your card and the card for a funeral." She could tell that he was very upset so she said, "Well don't feel bad... Imagine, right now there are flowers at someone's funeral with a card that says, "Best wishes for moving to your new location."

Aug 12th Moved to my new home in Minnesota. It's so beautiful here, the lakes are so serene and picturesque. Can hardly wait to see the fields with a covering of snow. GOD'S COUNTRY. I love it here.

Oct 14th Minnesota is the most beautiful place on earth. The leaves are turning all different colors. I love the shades of red and orange. Went for a ride and spotted some deer. They are so graceful, certainly they are the most peaceful creatures on earth. This must be paradise. I love it here.

Nov 11th Deer season will start soon. I can't imagine anyone wanting to kill such elegant creatures. The very symbols of peace and tranquillity. Hope it will snow soon. I love it here.

Dec 2nd It snowed last night. Woke up to find everything blanketed in white. It looks like a postcard. We went outside and cleaned the snow off the steps and shoveled the driveway. We had a snowball fight (I won), and when the snowplow came by we got to shovel the driveway again. What a beautiful place. Mother Nature in perfect harmony. I love Minnesota.

Dec 12th More snow last night. I love it here. The snowplow did his trick again (that little rascal). A winter wonderland. I love it here.

Dec 19th More snow last night. I love it here. Couldn't get out of the driveway to get to work this time. I'm exhausted from shoveling. I need a snowplow.

Dec 22nd More of the white crap fell last night. I've got blisters on my hands from shoveling. I think the snowplow hides around the curve and waits until I'm done shoveling the driveway. *******. They should use more salt to melt the damn ice.

Dec 28th More white **** last night. Been inside since Christmas Day except for shoveling out the driveway after "Snowplow Harry" comes by every time. Can't go anywhere; car is buried in mountain of white. The weatherman says to expect another 10 inches of this crap tonight. Do you know how many shovel fulls that is?

Jan 1st Happy ****ing New Year!! The weatherman was wrong again. We got 31 inches of the white **** this time. At this rate it won't melt until the 4th of July. The snowplow got stuck up the road and the ****head driver had the balls to come to the door to borrow my shovel. I told him that I've broken 6 shovels already from shoveling the **** he's pushed into my driveway. I broke the last one over his ****ing head.

Jan 4th Finally got out of the house today. I went to the store to get some food and on the way back, a damned deer ran in front of my car and I hit the bastard. Did $3,000 damage to my car. Those ****ing beasts are a menace. Wish hunters had killed them all last November.

Apr 30th Took the car to the garage in town. Would you believe the damn thing is rotting out from all the ****ing salt they keep dumping all over the road? Car looks like a piece of ****.

May 15th Packed up and moved to Arizona. I can't imagine anyone in their firkin' right mind would ever want to live in that godforsaken state of Minnesota.

May 30th Now this is a state that knows how to live!! Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. Mountains and deserts blended together. What a place! Watched the sunset from a park lying on a blanket. It was beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here.

June 14th Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun every day like this. I'm turning into a real sun worshipper.

June 30th Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

July 10th The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat? Al least it's a dry heat. Getting used to it is taking longer than I expected.

July 15th Fell asleep by the pool. (Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body.) Missed two days of work, what a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though: got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

July 20th I missed Tabby (our cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning. By the time I got out to the hot car for lunch, Tabby had swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and exploded all over $2,000 worth of leather upholstery. I told the kids she ran away. The car now smells like Kibbles and ****. No more pets in this heat!

July 25th Dry ****ing heat, my ass. Hot is hot!! The home air-conditioner is on the Fritz and AC repairman charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts.

July 30th Been sleeping outside by the pool for three nights now. $1,100 in goddamn house payments and we can't even go inside. Why did I ever come here?

Aug 4th 115 degrees? Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $500 and gets the temperature down to about 90. Stupid repairman pissed in my pool. I hate this ****ing state.

Aug 8th If another wise ass cracks, "Hot enough for you today?", I'm going to tear his ****ing throat out. Goddamn heat. By the time I get to work the radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like roasted ****ing Garfield!!

Aug 10th The weather report might as well be a damn recording: Hot and Sunny. It's been too hot to **** for two goddamn months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever rain in this barren damn desert?? Water rationing has been in effect all summer, so $1,700 worth of cactus just dried up and blew into the ****ing pool. Even a cactus can't live in this heat.

Aug 14th Welcome to Hell!!! Temperature got to 123 today. Forgot to crack the window and blew the ****ing windshield out of the Lincoln. The installer came to fix it and said, "Hot enough for you today?" My wife had to spend the $1,100 house payment to bail me out of jail.

Aug 30th Worst day of the goddamn summer. I'm not leaving the house. The ****ing monsoon rains finally came and all they did is to make it muggier than hell. The Lincoln is now floating somewhere in Mexico with it's new $500 windshield.

That does it, we're moving to Los Angeles for some peace and quiet.

I've moved 3 times this year, 4 times last year, and many times before that. NO MORE !! :cuss:

..on a side note, my mom was an expert at moving, she could pack everything in the house in a few hours; there were many times when i was growing up that I was told we were moving one day, and being in the new house the NEXT day :crazy:

We moved in Early January 2003. It sucked to be blunt. It was a pain in the ***. :wallbang

I know I couldn't!! I'm up north most of the time anyway for my job, and it's always so great when I get to go home to Fla in the winter!! Especially when I was in Neb. last Jan. and it was 7 degrees during the day!! Ooh, balmy.

Back on-topic, a long time ago I was living up north for a few months during the winter, and got tired of that quickly, so in the middle of Feb., I just up and packed my stuff to go back to Fla. I picked a 'great' day to do it because it was very windy. So everytime I walked outside to put stuff in my car, it was like knives going through me. But I was so desperate to start heading south!!

We're actually moving only three towns away. Thing is, you can move across the street, and it's still a pain because everything's gotta be packed and everything's gotta be unpacked.

I moved up here in April/May. But, we had been packing every so often for the past 2 years since my Dad was building our new house and since we live next door to my brother, we'd just bring stuff up in his attic. It was a bitch. For a year or so all I saw throughout the house was half packed crap, I hated it. I was totally against moving and was trying to do everything to stay down by myself. I didnt pack at all though, and had my mother do it. I cant pack anyways, I was just throwing stuff in boxes and shes all NO!! You gotta wrap it and label it. Oy. So I let her do it, I just went through all my old things to see what could be thrown away. Only reason why Im *gulp* glad we moved is because my uncle is gone!!! He was staying with us from like, August - September, then came back end of September to I think.. February! Since my Dad was rarely home, my mother wasnt stern enough into kicking him out. Finally he just left and he knew he didnt stand a chance staying with us up here. So the past few months living in Danville were kinda crappy for me, since I felt like I couldnt do anything with him around. Oh God thank Heaven I dont have to see him anymore. </rant>

I've moved three different times. It sucks like no other. The worst is when your parents force you to move to another state. I can't wait until I am able to transfer colleges, and go back to the state that I am from.

I moved when I was very young....I remember it slightly though. I was mad because my parents werent paying as much attention to me..they were too busy getting things ready and stuff :lol: ;)

I hear ya. That was my first moving experience. My father got a job at a newspaper in Troy, NY and we moved from Stamford, CT to a really snobby development, stayed there four years and moved to a nicer town, thank god.

Yeah we moved from Michigan to Texas. At the time, neither one of my parents had a job. We lived in an apartment for four years and that was okay. After that though, we had a house built and I had to move again. It probably would have been fine, except I had to go to a different school in another district. Once again I had to get new friends, and that was hard.

No prob, glad I could bring yopu some cheer.

On a side note, what everyone thought was an infection in either my tooth or gums turned out to be "trauma to my jaw bone caused by clenching my teeth at night caused by taking some meds I'm on." The trauma is so severe it has killed some of the bone. That bone is now trying to come out through my gums. It's just a BIT painful you could say.

Now I have some really neat pills that will take the pain away and make me fill happy :D

So if I act strange in the next few days I'm apologizing now for it.

i moved last spring its ok once your settled in but the move itself sucks

Oh man, that sucks, my Grandpapa just moved down here from Pennsylvania so I was stressed out as it is helping him move in, I can't imagine having to pack too. I moved when I was 4, so I kinda got out of it.

Btw, when my Grandpapa moved, he hired movers and they packed EVERYTHING. They wrapped dishes, pictures, they did EVERYTHING. Make sure that you don't haveta be doing extra work now :p b/c they don't take it out of the boxes for ya and that's even more work...;)

I hate having to make new friends and pretending to liike stuff they like to get them to like you when you move. When I moved to MD, they were these kids in my neighborhood and they were wrestling fans and they didn't really like me that well, so I pretended to be a wrestling fan to get them to like me, but it didnt really turn out that way. I did become friends with them 1 month after though,
