The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows: 1946-Present by Tim Brooks and Earle Marsh is a good encyclopedia of televison. http://museum.tv/ is also a great site for learning. This book focuses on ten sitcoms (I Love Lucy, Honeymooners, Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, All in the Family M*A*S*H, Barney Miller, Taxi and Cheers) giving a complete episode guide, cast lists, guest stars, directors, and in-depth analysis of certain episodes.
