John, I've always had great respect for your wide range in musical taste and I think this list shows it. I also remember your list of CDs that you own. I have many, many CDS, but not as many as you. How on Earth did you afford to buy all these CDs?:)
You have to tell me what line of work you are in. :D

Wow, nice list. Your top three would all rank pretty high on my list too. Nice to see Kate Bush, Suzanne Vega and others on there. You know you've gone and inspired me to do the same thing now, don't you? I don't know if I'll go as far as 200 but...see you in half a day.

Holy smokes! Just curious, Buffyslayer, do you play an instrument? If not, do you wish like heck that you did?

Another question: Yoko Ono? I'm perplexed that she is so high in your rankings. I'm not questioning your opinion. We all know how dangerous that can be, lol. I'm just surprised and wonder what it is that she has done that puts her so high on your list.

I'd promise to reply with a list of 200, but I don't know if I could come up with it, ever, much less in a couple of days or so.:)

Great list, Buffyslayer.

I haven't even begun ranking my list of artists. All I've done so far is compile a list of artists I'd consider putting on my list, and I'm already up to 150 acts.

lol, Yoko really is an acquired taste, but I really love her work. I am not fond of her first couple records, but I think when she got the screaming out of her system and started writing actual songs (starting with 73's Approximately Infinite Universe), she began to blossom and became a real underrated artist. Her singing is something that can either turn you off or you like it... I'm in the latter, she's not a "good" singer but I do think the uniqueness in it really adds to her appeal IMO.

But I know there are only about six other fellow Yoko Ono fans in North America, lol.

one thing I notice is that I generally am drawn more to artists who really go around the map instead of sticking to one sound. Of my top 15, just about everyone has gone across the board and done several different types of music. That is one thing I find sadly missing in today's scene, you have very few artists who are willing to take risks and have the guts someone like Prince or Bowie has done many many times.

Too many of today's artists are afraid of alienating any fans by trying something different.

Oops. I'd better watch it or I'll slip into writing a list.

Following in the footsteps of my music-loving brothers Vashti & BuffySlayer, I have finally compiled my list of my Top 100 Artists. Before I go into the list I must add that most people will probably think I've lost my damn mind not including MJ, Madonna or anything Beatles related - but if I had done a Top 200 they would have definately been in there. Several more of my favorite Jazz, R&B, Classic Rock, Gospel, old school Rap & Country artists would have also been included if I had done a Top 200. Cool, Jazz. I was waiting to see your list. You have some nice variety there. And since I see the name Prince on your list, it's  :D

It wouldn't be a list without Prince on it  Just today a co-worker & I were going to lunch & he had the soundtrack from Graffiti Bridge playing in his car & we were jammin'. Man he cranked it up too  My co-workers's still hyped up because Prince did "The Question of U" when he saw him in concert a couple months ago

Cool. Your co-worker has good taste. I know what you mean about leaving artists off the top 100. If I were to stretch out my list to 200 or 300, there'd be artists from both yours and BuffySlayer's list on my list. You don't realize until you attempt this just how many different acts' music you like.
