At the mardi Gras in New Orleans women collect beads by pulling up their shirts for anyone with a supply of beads who happens to ask them too during the festivities. Usually the askers are on balconies or on floats. The girls are rewarded for their flashing with a seemingly useless necklace of beads that the guy or gal or some combo of the two tosses down to them to add to their collection.

I guess that crappy Russian comedian who used to say, "What a country, harharharharhar," probably used the Mardi Gras traditions a time or two to repeat is inane 'whatacountry'. Not that I mind the tradition, mind you. All in good fun and all of that.

No, no. Not women. Drunken sluts do that. Women hold up their hands and scream like everyone else. It's the stupid whores who are drunk and/or high who flash themselves.

The boobie flash is common as dirt at the mardi gras. Women of nearly all walks of life do that. You're living in a fantasy world. Girls of dang near all stripes like to show off their boobies, given half a chance.

No I'm living in southern Louisiana (have been all my life) and I've never seen anyone do the flash except for several drunk girls. I know what I'm talking about, I go to Mardi Gras parades every year. Don't belittle all the women of a region just because of the asinine things some of them do.

Someone needs to take a chill pill.

You have your opinion, sure, but what I'm saying is fact. It is a fact that I have never seen a sober woman do the boob thing. It is a fact that I go to parades every year, in varieties of cities. It is a fact that I live in LA and have been since day one. It is a fact that I know what I'm talking about.

Now if you're getting paranoid, I don't care, you seem a little bit on the crazy side...

I never claimed to know everything, buddy boy. I just stated what I knew of to be true.

I mean, saying that it is tradition that women bare their breasts for plastic beads in Lousiana is like saying that it is tradition for women to go out at 11PM every night, with a feathered boa and pink stilettos, peddling their "wares" in New York City. It's true for some but it's not a tradition and is not normal for all women to do that.

And furthermore, the people on the floats don't ask. The women just do it as a dare or just to do it.

Once again, I'm from the area and I've lived here all my life. I know what I'm talking about.

"I Know what I'm talking about", says JT. Does being married to a Louisana girl for 5 years give me anymore right to express my opinion than your claim of being the only man in Louisana to tell the world what the truth is? I didn't think so. Get off of it. Girls will be girls. So the hell what?

Did I ever say that your opinion is wrong!? You may think that it is tradition for women to bare their babes at Mardi Gras, but I think that thought is ridiculous.

You have all the right in the country to express your opinion, so go on ahead, but I was simply pointing out that it isn't true that women in general, by "tradition" (your word, not mine), flash themselves in public for the sake of Mardi Gras beads.

You're married to a Louisiana girl for 5 years. That's nice, but do you live in LA? If so, for how long? Whether or not you do or don't doesnt mean that you have no right to express your opinion, but I think that you should make judgements on things or people or events that you have experienced first hand.

And, speaking of putting words in mouths, WHERE THE HELL DID I "CLAIM" THAT I WAS THE ONLY MAN IN LOUISIANA "TO TELL THE WORLD WHAT THE TRUTH IS"?

Hypocrite, my friend, hypocrite.

I'll put it succinctly, JT. You are claiming to speak for everyone, and you are full of it. Give up trying to speak for everyone, and forget trying to nail down why I, or anyone else, should even be able to express an opinion without you butting in with yours.

Your last overly dramatic line with your attempt to call me a hypo?? I have no idea what that is supposed to mean. I haven't been a hypo in this convo. I've only expressed what I know. You butted in with 'GOD'S' word to set us all right. THE MAN FROM Louisana! The MAN who can put a stop to all opinions because he is one of (what is it? Millions? of men?) who happen to live in Louisana? Gufaw.

OK, no you're getting personal.

I did not ambush you, I was just trying to add to the conversation. I wasn't trying to correct you or anyone else in this thread. Just try to add some lightness to an already light conversation. You obviously misunderstood.

And you called me a smart ass. Oh, hell no, bitch. I'm not the one with the paranoia problems.

You told me not to put words in your mouth, to speak for myself and not you. And then you put words in my mouth, doing exactly what you told me not to do.

And once again for the love of GAWD, I never claimed to be THE MAN or anything. There are very few Louisianians here on the boards and I just assumed that you weren't one of us, I just assumed that you had studied LA culture or something. That's why I said that I'm from LA, therefore I know what I'm talking about. If you would have told me that you are in LA and that you've experienced Mardi Gras, then I would have never started the whole thing.

And another thing, I never stopped you from having an opinion. All who know me know that I am very free when it comes to folks' opinions and views. This is America, and we should all be able to form our own opinions because we are able to. I never ever tell people that they should believe something because I believe it. I just state whether or not I agree. I move on, the person moves on. No fighting, no arguing. It's easy as that.

But when people start to act bitchy towards me, I return the bitchery.

Excuse me if I'm wrong, but did you not say

?

I disagreed with the "tradition" part. The way I see it and always have seen it, is that a woman just doesn't go out and flash her self for cheap, plastic necklaces. Like I already said, that's like saying women in NYC or Los Angeles or in Las Vegas go out everynight a whore the streets. Not every woman does it, but many do. That doesn't mean its a tradition.

It really just looks like a big misunderstanding to me. You misunderstood my post for a mean smart-ass comment, trying to correct you.
Believe me, I never make mean smart-ass comments trying to correct people, exceptwhen it's people I already have an established dislike for, and you are not one of those people.

Ultimately let's truce this thing, JT, but not before I explain a couple of things.

Didn't mean to get on you so hard, but your statement "All sluts and whores" was just simply offensive to me. That's your opinion and you are welcome to it, but I found it to be offensive, along with, in my opinion, incorrect.

As for the boobie flash being a tradition: It is a tradition. That's what they sell the bead-necklaces for. They have been selling them for that purpose (tradition) for years. That is what one would call ... a tradition.

For the record, There are many Mardi Gras parades that happen all over New Orleans and other parts of Louisiana. Most of which are family events.

The breast flashing tradition happens on Bourbon Street in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. The Bourbon Street happenings are not an official part of Mardi Gras, and is mostly attended by tourist.

Kitt
09-18-2004, 06:29 PM
Yeah, I read a couple of sites about that and, frankly, they sounded really silly denying the tradition. It was like saying the Yankees wear pinstripes but they're not our team so that's not a tradition.

Also, tourists are thick (in large numbers) all over the Mardi Gras parade route. To single out the Bourbon street area as nothing but tourists is again, silly.

Well, I've never been to Mardi Gras, but I have been to Bourbon Street (man that was a week to remember.....if only I could :) ) Anyway, I must say that I got alot of beads while I was there, not by flashing, but by being given them.

I did, several times while at parties on Bourbon Street, see SOME women and men flashing to get beads. All the people I saw flashing had Hurricanes in there hands that were about 3/4 gone. I also saw LOTS of people getting beads for just walking down the street like I did.

I don't know how it always is, but when I was there it was mostly the drunks flashing and mostly the sober.....or at least a lot LESS drunk just getting beads or asking for them.
