View Full Version : Dixie was fired
ThomasE 09-19-2001, 08:53 AM I found out that she was fired from the show by Gary indirectly. He didn't seem to like her. I was informed by one of the cast members about this so this is accurate. I made one little error on the FOL board about the reunion date so I don't want to mess this one up.
angel676 09-21-2001, 08:28 PM Why did Gary Coleman have her fired?
ThomasE 09-22-2001, 08:57 AM Well he "just didn't like her" is what I was told by one of the cast.
angel676 09-22-2001, 04:14 PM I know it's in the past, but just because
Gary Coleman didn't like Dixie, that's
no reason to fire her. I mean the show
wasn't called the Gary Coleman's Show.
Did the other cast members of the show
like Dixie?
ThomasE 09-24-2001, 08:18 AM I agree. I thought she was a good Maggie.
angel676 09-24-2001, 09:46 AM I agree, I thought she was a good Maggie
also, but I liked the other Maggie, Mary
Ann Mobley, the best. That's just me though!
ThomasE 09-24-2001, 10:22 AM I liked Mary Anne Mobley too. I had not issue with her. I really didn't notice the change. I was a little kid and my sister said that Mary Anne Mobley was the "New Maggie".
Mary-Ann 11-19-2001, 03:09 PM she was so not fired!!! like duh stupids!!!! she went on to do a better show called designing women!!! duh!!!

Let's get something straight. NOBODY is stupid on this board and #2 I got this information from Shavar Ross (Dudley) myself. Designing Women premiered in the Fall of 1986 and Dixie was let go after the 1984-1985 season.
JethroSimpson 11-27-2001, 04:31 PM Mary Ann, do you think you know everything?
How can you say she wasn't fired, what makes you think you know?
I've had an E-Mail from Shavar Ross too and he seems a really nice person.
Mary-Ann 12-27-2001, 08:01 PM  I have met her and her family. I know because I asked her. Yall are just jealous.:p
ThomasE 12-28-2001, 09:55 AM Let it go, Mary Ann.

ThomasE 12-28-2001, 02:37 PM Guys. We are just going to have to ignore meaningless issues on the board and keep posting.
Mary-Ann 01-20-2002, 06:09 PM Forgive me Mary Ann for taking it to this level.
You need to pull up the topic I posted about respecting other on the board.
(Maryann's Post Edited by ThomasE)
HALANDME 02-03-2002, 12:03 AM Dixie Carter was GREAT as Maggie, but I love Dixie Carter in general. In EVERYTHING that she's done. And I'm GLAD she got fired from DS because I couldn't imagine her not in DW, I couldn't imagine Julia Sugarbaker's tirades not being carried out by Dixie!
DixieCarterIsMyMom 02-03-2002, 07:58 PM  She didn't get fired! I couldn't imagine anyone else as JJulia rather theterminator either!!!:happyface

She was let go. I got the information from a reliable source. Besides, it happened 17 years ago. It's a thing of the past.

It's real obvious that you and Mary Ann are the same person. Designing Women didn't even premiere untill over a year after Dixie was replaced so it is impossible that she left Diff'rent Strokes for Designing Women. Like it or not Dixie was let go!
DixieCarterIsMyMom 02-19-2002, 12:35 PM SHE IS MY MOM! I KNOW SHE DID NOT GET FIRED! YOU PEOPLE NEED TO LEARN SOME THINGS AROUND HERE! AND I AM SO LIKE NOT MARYANN!!!!!

Keep it up Laura/Maryann. It is so obvious. I don't want you bothering these people on the board. Using another name will not help you any. No more crap. No Joke!
DixieCartersDaughter 02-20-2002, 12:33 PM Hi! I am new. Why is she using my name? Beleive me DixieCarterIsMyMom is a FAKE! I would neever be rude like that! I am really Dixie's daughter! I have a picture to prove it!
ThomasE 02-20-2002, 01:19 PM Maryann, Face it you have
some serious problems that need to be dealt with. Quit messing up the board with these stupid posts. This is like your 3rd Login name. I will start deleting/editing your posts for the sake of peace on this board. IF needed, get help.
DixieCartersDaughter 02-20-2002, 01:58 PM I am so not Maryann or whatever! I am much more nicer and respectfuller! I would never stoop that low! Who would want to be her any way! Ughh!:o

Give it up. It is so obvious that you three are the same person. (Mary-Ann, DixieCarterIsMyMom, and DixieCarter'sDaughter) If you dont like our opinions just do as TJ says and just leave.
ThomasE 02-20-2002, 07:04 PM This is getting so silly that it is starting to be funny. It's funny how we all are posting all 3 of her identities with backslashes. But sreiously though, I'll continue to check the board and watch after that girl.

Thanks. You make the streets...er...uh...boards safer for us! :) You're our virtual policeman!
JethroSimpson 02-24-2002, 09:04 AM It's quite funny noticing that Gary Coleman and Dixie Carter weren't very often in many scenes together, and towards the end of season 7 Maggie wasn't in hardly any episodes.
GINGER GIRL 02-24-2002, 03:05 PM I second that Virtual Policeman thingy!:D
Dixie Carter Girl 03-10-2002, 03:15 PM Hi, my name is Casey, I'm a HUGE Dixie Carter fan. I want to know why people are pretending to be Dixie's daughters, I mean if it was like "I'm the daughter you never heard of" it would be diff'rent but stealing her daughters identities, or trying to I should say is just down right ignorant, but that's my opinion! Back to the subject though, I don't know if Dixie was fired, but I do know Dixie was wonderful as Maggie. I've never seen the ones with Mary Ann Mobley (sp?) because, well it is against my "principles" because Dixie was not in them. If Gary did fire Dixie, that makes me think of him in a whole new light! I mean, it wasn't his show, though he was a character, he shouldn't have had control over that. I read an article recently from Diff'rent Strokes that was published back in the 80s, it said that the producers and Dixie agreed it was best she'd leave the show, but that could have been printed to make Dixie look good, and not to say "he" fired her. Which infuriates me to think that he did that, if he did that!
GinnaSugarbaker 03-10-2002, 03:26 PM All of what you said is very true Casey!

JethroSimpson 03-10-2002, 07:11 PM Although you say it wasn't Gary Coleman's show, without him I don't think it would have survived.
An interesting observasion- the producers who had been there for several seasons left just before the last season. I wonder if it was them or the new ones that ABC employed who go Dixie sacked? r wether they could have left because they had enough of Gary. (although I know they went on to produce "Who's The Boss")

ClesStahn 03-12-2002, 12:58 PM Man, Dixie Carter sure looks diff'rent (;)) on this show than she does on Designing Women, huh?

Wow! You resurructed this old topic. It brought back memories. The only thing that Gary didn't do is sing the theme to Alic-- ur, uh, I mean, "Diff'rent Strokes".

Jude The Obscure 05-21-2008, 10:40 PM Sing it Gary! ( to the tune of "Alice" theme song)

Czas na Zywiec 05-22-2008, 01:17 PM lmao this thread. :rotflmao: what a nutcase that MaryAnn was, just look at page 3, the first half if the page is pretty much her talking to herself. I totally remember coming here when she infested pretty much every topic with her multiple personalities.
ThomasE 05-22-2008, 02:20 PM That child was nuts. When I saw this mess taking place on the board, I had to do something about that asap. As I was strumming through this topic, I was laughing like crazy. Ahh...the meee-mo-rieees. Sca-terred Pic--per-son-alities. LOL.

You Caveman, you!
ThomasE 08-13-2008, 11:15 AM Bump.
For the record, Shavar Ross (Dudley) told me about the incident.
robyrob 08-13-2008, 11:24 AM at the time I think a lot of the fans didn't like Dixie's character on the show and if I remember correctly the ratings reflected that and they tried to make some quick changes to stop the ratings slide.
...I know that I didn't like the character.
Jude The Obscure 08-13-2008, 11:37 AM Cool, Thomas, that you have access to some of the people in showbiz!
LondonBRIDGES 08-13-2008, 02:09 PM I can believe that about Gary. He did get the big head and it well should've been the Gary Coleman show because he was calling all the shots and pulling in the ratings.
I liked Maggie and Sam but their appearances did change the course of the show. The story lines got slower. And their southern twangs set my teeth on edge.
Disclaimer: Yes I am indeed a southerner but I hate how we Texans and other southerners are portrayed on television. Our "accents" are over the top on camera. Gracious
Anywho, Mary Ann Mobley wasn't a convincing Maggie. She seemed more quiet and docile. Her add on reminds of Dapne Maxwell Reid taking on the role of Vivian on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Neither quite measured up.
stevea 08-13-2008, 02:24 PM It's quite funny noticing that Gary Coleman and Dixie Carter weren't very often in many scenes together, and towards the end of season 7 Maggie wasn't in hardly any episodes.
Mary An Mobley wasn't on much in season 8 either. Neither here nor there...
Jude The Obscure 08-14-2008, 02:08 PM Perhaps, in addition to the personality conflicts, the producers realized the character of Maggie was not well thought out and decided to limit the character's use on the series, rather than have her killed off or quickly divorced from Drummond (which both would have been sour notes for the series to end on).

It would be interesting to know why they decided to have him marry very quickly. I don't think they mentioned her having a little boy, initially, so that probably wasn't the reason. Although it was convenient to get him, to have somebody for Arnold to pal around with, with Willis getting older.
Mr. Television 08-14-2008, 05:43 PM How did I miss this thread?

I'd like to know why they decided to have him marry very quickly too; after he met Maggie, in like the next two episodes they're married; what's up with that? I also wonder whose bright idea it was to even have Drummond marry at all. The show was perfectly fine with him and the boys and Kimberly but then Maggie and her kid came in and ruined a perfectly good show.
Also, even with Willis getting older, they still should've kept him on the show more than they did. After Maggie and Sam move in, we hardly even see Willis for more than a couple of seconds so that he can say his token 2-3 lines (if that). It was weird how someone who was once a focal point of the show suddenly becomes nothing.

I noticed that he had a lot less screen time too. All of his time seemed to go to Sam...cute kid, don't get me wrong, but it kinda took focus away from the show, IMO...
Nat's #1 Fan 08-16-2008, 05:16 PM ITA. I tend to refer to the last two seasons as "The Maggie and Sam Show" .
