Seeing as most of us have the first Season of Frasier at our disposal or have at least seen it in the past, I was wondering what everyone's opinions are on it?
I hope I'm not in too much of a minority here, but I actually regard it as one of the weaker seasons - certainly my least favourite of the early years. I understand that most of the reasons for this are just because it was finding its feet at the time, and that in fact, it's only comparatively weak. I mean, it was still good overall with some great episodes, and excellent for a debut season. However, by the show's own standards it is not among my favourites.
Niles is severely underused despite being no less hilarious than in later seasons, while Roz is also given too little a role in most episodes. Pity the same thing happened to her in the final season. Daphne is funny although a little too one-dimensional. I didn't care much for Martin's cranky old man personality at the very start, but I see that it was importnant to the story and thankfully shortlived. As for the leading man - no real problem except his hairstyle!
The script is excellent in most episodes but there are some plots that I just didn't enjoy so much, such as the one where Frasier dates the 22-year-old.
Anyone agree/disagree?
