The rest of the info below comes from davisdvd. When is Warner going to release the Prince video collection I've been waiting years for? (<--I hate this particular smiley, can't believe I used it.) The Peter Gabriel collection should be good, I always liked Shock the Monkey, Sledgehammer, Big Time and Steam.

Peter Gabriel is currently remixing audio tracks for an as-yet-untitled DVD compilation of his videos due for release on October 19th through Warner Vision. Gabriel, working with producer Daniel Lanois, says the project will allow viewers to experience such hits as "Sledgehammer" and "Red Rain" in true 5.1 surround sound. "The project has been on the cards for some time, and now seems to be the perfect timing," he recently told Billboard.com. "Daniel is doing mixes that will sometimes sound better than the originals. It is a much wider sound [with] more clarity." The DVD will include 18-20 tracks, among them "Biko," "Digging in the Dirt," "Shock the Monkey," "Games Without Frontiers," "Don't Give Up" and Gabriel's personal favorites "Sledgehammer," "Mercy Street" and "Digging in the Dirt." Some videos will also be re-edited and, in some cases, new images will be added. "We won't touch the better ones, but on some others we will have new material," Gabriel said.

Jay-Z's self-directed autobiographical film, Streets Is Watching, will be released onto DVD. The short film, originally released in 1998, chronicles the rapper's meteoric rise from the streets of Brooklyn to international fame. The Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam DVD will feature a new score, "lost video footage," as well as the movie's original soundtrack featuring tracks from Rell, M.O.P. and Memphis Bleek, DMX, Noreaga, Ja Rule and DJ Clue. Look for the DVD to street on October 5th.

David Bowie's two acclaimed shows at Dublin's Point Theatre in November 2003 are being released to DVD on October 19th. David Bowie: A Reality Tour, with its thirty-track set, was recorded on November 22nd and 23rd 2003 at the Point, an 8,000-seat venue that was formerly a train depot. Among the tracks featured will be the classics "Rebel Rebel," "Fame," "Ashes to Ashes," "Under Pressure" and material from Bowie's two most recent albums, "Reality" and "Heathen." The disc will also include a ten-page booklet. A special CD+DVD tour pack is currently available which includes the "Reality" CD (plus bonus track "Waterloo Sunset") and a bonus DVD featuring an entire eleven-track live performance of the new album at Hammersmith Riverside.

Has there been any word on when they're gonna release Live Aid on DVD? I had heard November, but then heard it was pushed back.

Concerning the Live Aid concert, I just checked amazon.com. Their pre-order price is just $27.99 for the four discs. Still have to wait and see what's included and what's missing. November 9

I lost all interest in it when I read everything that's going to be taken out:

Led Zeppelin's reunion set is removed
Paul McCartney's set is removed
Queen's set is edited
Madonna's set is edited

a lot of others, those are just the biggies

I've still got interest if it's under 30 bucks. You can be sure I'm getting it if the Prince video is included.

Thanks Vash & BuffySlayer for the info. I heard that Led Zeppelin wasn't satisfied with their Live Aid performance, but I would still like to have it on DVD since my VHSs that I taped it on in '85 is starting really age. Can't believe they would remove Paul McCartney? Wonder what for? I'm like Vashti, if it's under $30 I'll probably pick it up.

The SRP is $39.95. Amazon.com has it for $27.99. Still don't know if I'll get it.

The good thing is that it still benefits the charity:

A disclaimer of sorts from the booklet:

All the performers gave their time free of charge on Live Aid day and no money has been paid to them by the Band Aid Trust for their inclusion in this DVD. The publishers, record companies and songwriters also waived their fees to help maximize the revenues for the Band Aid Trust.

Money raised from the sales of this DVD will be used to continue the work of the Band Aid Trust in Africa.

If anyone picks up the Live Aid set today, give a report to us here when you get a chance. How it looks, how's the sound and if the Prince video is anywhere as an Easter egg. I need to know.

Nevermind. I just made an impulse buy of the Live Aid dvd. A big $19.98 was staring me in the face at Target, so I said what the hell. Even without Prince, it's four discs and over 10 hours worth of performances. Doing a very quick glance of the booklet, the tracklist matches the one that appears in one of my other posts in this thread. Most of what I remember is the ABC prime time stuff, so I'm looking forward to seeing everything else, including all the Wembley acts.

I haven't had the chance to check out the Live Aid dvd yet, but I should start over the weekend. Here's the digital bits/musictap review:

Over the years, there have been a number of amazing and historic concerts, all of them tremendous undertakings. One of the early concerts designed to help the needy in other, less fortunate lands was the incredible Concert for Bangla Desh - the George Harrison aid vehicle to help raise funds. There was a call for help which was answered by the Rock giants of the time. But the Concert for Bangla Desh pales in comparison to the immensity of the Bob Geldof-led humanitarian effort the world has come to know as Live Aid.

On July 13th, 1985, Geldof's clarion call of help for Africa famine victims was answered by a large outpouring of musicians, including many of the great bands of the time - more than 60 in all. The day-long Live Aid concert event was broadcast live on MTV and other networks around the globe. The concert unfolded in two locations on two separate continents (JFK Stadium in Philadelphia through the USA for Africa contingency and Wembley Stadium in London spearheaded by Geldof's Band Aid). Linked by the love of humanity, the music world (and mankind as a whole) performed one of the greatest miracles of unity and compassion to date.

This 4-disc release begins with the videos that set off this extraordinary happening, Do They Know It's Christmas and We Are the World, along with a short BBC news piece on the famine itself. The London half of the concert then commences with Status Quo preforming Rockin' All Over the World. A very apt beginning.

As the day progressed, the Philadelphia program joined as well, and we were treated to more than 10 hours of some of the best music of the early 1980s, featuring remarkable performances by David Bowie, Sting, Elvis Costello, Queen, Elton John, U2, The Who, Madonna, Dire Straits, Adam Ant, Hall & Oats, Sade, The Cars, Eric Clapton, Duran Duran, Billy Joel, Simple Minds, Neil Young, Santana, The Pretenders and many, many more. We even saw a reunited Led Zeppelin on stage.

This collection is presented in a gate-fold digipak with a slip-case. The contents of the discs are displayed in their original full frame TV presentation, with available audio choices of DTS 5.1, Dolby Digital 5.1 and Stereo 2.0. It's important to keep in mind that both the video and audio quality are a bit mixed. The concert was originally not intended to be recorded for legal reasons. Luckily, both the U.K. and U.S. crews largely ignored the restriction. Unfortunately, some performances were still lost a variety of technical reasons. In addition, some of the U.K. footage features horizontal banding (known as microphony) due to the 1980s tube cameras being affected by the loud volume of the stadium amplification. Given all this, however, what you do get here is pretty remarkable - some 10 hours of extraordinary music.

In addition to the concert itself, there are a smattering of extras that help to value this set even further. A number of performances that weren't broadcast on the day have been restored for this DVD, and there are several additional performances included here that didn't take place during the Live Aid event, but which were dedicated to the cause nonetheless (these include sets by Run DMC and others). There's a documentary on how the concert succeeded in raising aid money and what the result of that was. There's also a booklet that lists all the songs, provides background notes on the event and the foundation and even includes some behind-the-scenes photos.

It's also important to mention here that the proceeds from this DVD will funnel into the coffers of the Band Aid Trust that, to date, has spent over $144 million to help relieve the famines in Africa.

Great music, great memories, great cause. I was transported. You will be too. Live Aid absolutely demands a place on your music DVD shelf.

Hey Vash, is Ashford & Simpson's performance where they bring out Teddy Pendergrass on there? I remember that performance well because it was the first time Teddy had been out in public since his accident 3 years earlier. BTW, your avatar ROCKS!!

Ashford & Simpson intro-ing, then performing with Teddy P. is included as an extra on the last of the four discs. The three of them perform "Reach Out & Touch" together. There's no segment featuring any of A&S performance without Teddy, only Reach Out & Touch is included. I'll tell you one thing, Nick Ashford is more of a diva than his wife. He can give Diana Ross a run for her money with those arm gestures.

I wanna get those, they look awesome.

the old Olivia Live In Concert, Physical, Soul Kiss and Twist Of Fate VHS tapes can finally be rendered obsolete due to these two DVD's. If only they would've put ALL the Rumour videos (the "Olivia Down Under" special was a video album for that album) on it and it'd be complete, but I guess I understand the logistics of it, because The Rumour was a major flop, so only the two singles are extracted. Whereas Physical was a top 10 platinum album with a #1 blockbuster single, and Soul Kiss did manage to go gold and make top 30.

This release is hot on the heels of the "Gold" cd, which is the first 2-disc collection of her career, and marked the first time singles post-1983 made a Greatest Hits album, and also marks the debut of "Fool Country" from Xanadu on an album (it was previously a b-side)

I like Olivia, and all the videos of hers I remember, even later stuff like Soul Kiss and Livin In Desperate Times. I'm a more casual fan but I could be tempted. They're inexpensive enough. A double package like Best of Bowie would've been nice, but I guess the two individual volumes: same difference.

I predict the first disc will greatly outsell the second. The first disc has tons of Olivia classics and captures her in her prime (1978-1981). There were only two big hits in the second disc (1982-1998), so pretty much only hardcore ONJ fans will buy the second disc. I for sure will get both though, I have never seen most of the Soul Kiss videos (I have seen the title cut on VH1 Classic before), nor have I ever seen Livin' In Desperate Times or Tied Up. It's nice that after so long of ONJ's entire catalog being out of print domestically outside of Physical and the Back To Basics cd, that her material is starting to resurface. I think it's time her career gets reassessed the way that it happened to The Bee Gees, ABBA and The Carpenters.

I was thinking the same thing when I looked at the tracklists. If I were to get either one, it'd be 1, but I remember those singles you mentioned (SK, LIDT, TU), also Twist of Fate and Heart Attack. I'd want those videos too. But Gold 1 does look like the more appealing one between the two.

Jimi Hendrix 2-DVD Set to Be Released September 13

Entire live Woodstock performance available for the first time

Universal Music Enterprises to release Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock DVD set on September 13th

For the very first time in more than 36 years, audiences will be able to witness the entirety of the epochal performance by Jimi Hendrix that closed the Woodstock Festival. Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock (The Deluxe Edition) will be released this coming September 13th by Experience Hendrix through Universal Music Enterprises. Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock is a two-disc DVD set that, for the first time, chronicles every song, every note, played by Hendrix in his landmark performance on the morning of August 18, 1969.

Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock is certain to stand as the definitive record of one of Jimi's most celebrated performances. This all-new deluxe set features all of the existing film footage from Jimi's unforgettable August 1969 Woodstock concert newly re-edited and presented uninterrupted and in its original performance sequence. There are a total of 14 Hendrix songs seen and heard in Live At Woodstock including never-before-seen versions of "Foxey Lady," "Message To Love," "Hey Joe," "Spanish Castle Magic," "Lover Man," and "Hear My Train A Coming," an all-new 5.1 surround and 2.0 stereo soundtrack mixed by Eddie Kramer, Jimi's original studio engineer who was on hand at Woodstock. The original, theatrically released, version of Woodstock included only 10 minutes of Hendrix's performance when it was first seen in movie theaters. The later director's cut of the film included another five minutes of Hendrix's performance.

The original VHS, (and subsequent DVD version) of Hendrix's Woodstock performance released in the early '90s ran for 57 minutes while the new version including the six songs not previously offered runs over 80 minutes. Experience Hendrix has teamed with Warner Bros. to restore all of the existing film footage from Hendrix's legendary Woodstock performance. This new edition was entirely re-edited by Jere Huggins, one of the original editors of the 1970 Academy Award winning Woodstock documentary feature film. Huggins worked extensively with Experience Hendrix's Janie Hendrix and John McDermott, as well as noted Warner Bros. film restoration specialist Bill Rush to incorporate a variety of previously unseen camera angles and coverage. Rush has been involved in the careful, critically acclaimed restoration of many classic films, including Public Enemy, Casablanca, and Out Of The Past. The result is a frame-by-frame digital restoration of the original 16 mm negatives that presents Hendrix in vibrant color and detail never before seen on screen. Rush is co-producer, for Warner Bros., of Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock.

While special features abound in Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock, of special note is the companion DVD disc, "Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock: A Second Look." Most of the footage was shot in black and white by a college student who was experimenting with open reel video recording at the time. He, subsequently, showed the footage to Hendrix after the festival, but since that time has remained under wraps. The original tapes were acquired by Experience Hendrix especially for inclusion in this package. A Second Look offers a totally unique perspective of Hendrix's Woodstock performance as it combines the black and white video footage of Jimi's legendary performance intercut with alternate camera angles filmed in color by the original Woodstock documentary crew.

A Second Look features uninterrupted footage of every performance featured on DVD disc one in its original performance sequence. In addition, A Second Look presents never before seen video footage of "Hear My Train A Comin'" - a performance missed by the sanctioned Woodstock film crew who had to stop shooting to change film at that moment. The song is presented here for the very first time.

The set is packaged with a booklet annotated by Hendrix historian and Experience Hendrix Catalog Manger John McDermott who, with Janie Hendrix served as producer of Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock. In addition to the full-length feature Live At Woodstock, this deluxe two DVD collection features a multitude of special bonus features. These are described below as well as a song listing.

The Road to Woodstock
A new documentary featuring Hendrix performance footage and new interviews with Woodstock promoter Michael Lang, and Hendrix band members Mitch Mitchell (drums), Billy Cox (bass), Larry Lee (guitar) and Juma Sultan (percussion) among others.

Jimi Hendrix Press Conference
Filmed in Harlem at Frank's Restaurant on September 3, 1969, just two weeks after Woodstock, this press conference was called to announce Jimi's upcoming benefit performance on behalf of the United Block Association, a Harlem based youth organization. Jimi's comments about the festival and his memorable rendition of Star Spangled Banner are part the press conference.

Nashville Roots
Band members Billy Cox and Larry Lee recall their friendship with Jimi Hendrix and their shared journey from the fabled R&B 'chitlin circuit' to the greatest rock festival ever conceived. Cox had been Jimi's army buddy and the two joined up in Nashville after Jimi's discharge. They formed a band called the King Kasuals and became mainstays of the chitlin' circuit including the Del Morocco Club in Nashville where they were the house band for a time. Upon the departure of bassist Noel Redding in April, 1969, Jimi invited Cox to join him and went on to be the bassist for the Woodstock group - called Gypsys, Sun & Rainbows, as well as with Band of Gypsies in 1970 with drummer Buddy Miles, continuing with the reformed Jimi Hendrix Experience when drummer Mitch Mitchell returned to the fold. It was in Nashville that Jimi and Billy became friends with guitarist Larry Lee who is seen on stage in the Woodstock performance. He had played guitar for such groups as The Impressions and was drafted and wounded in Vietnam. Two weeks after his discharge, Jimi invited him to play at Woodstock. He later gained recognition as a guitarist on sessions at Stax and would also work with Al Green for more than a decade.

Recording Woodstock
Engineer Eddie Kramer details the recording of the entire epic festival. Kramer was Jimi's partner in Electric Lady Studios in New York and is a living link to the sonic legacy of Jimi Hendrix and a font of knowledge about Hendrix. He is co-author, with John McDermott of the book Hendrix: Setting the Record Straight.

I picked up the two Livvy DVD's last night. I must say, if you love bad, campy music videos and love her music, you're going to love watching these videos. Some of them are so godawful.

Among the highlights:
Silvery Rain - where she looks more like David Bowie than herself, and the video is set in a post-apocalyptic world which looked like a recycled set from a Kim Carnes video shoot.
Strangers Touch - Olivia tells a 1940's film noir black and white story.... on a $10 budget
Toughen Up - a Madonna-ish Olivia teaches a bunch of girls (including Olivia as another character) how to tame their men
The Right Moment - nice dress Livvy

I love the music though, and the audio has been remastered. In a way, you're getting a remastered version of Physical buying this DVD since all 10 videos from the album had videos filmed.

This past summer's Live 8 charity concerts will be released onto DVD on November 8th. The four-disc set, "the biggest live event DVD project of its kind" according to label Capitol/EMI, will bring together performances from the worldwide series of Live 8 concerts which took place on July 2nd. The set will feature most - but not all - of the two concerts which took place at London's Hyde Park and Philadelphia's Museum Of Art. Of the seventy-seven songs played in London, twenty-two reportedly have been cut from the DVD set for time issues. These include, among others, Dido's White Flag and Thank You, REM's Imitation of Life, Velvet Revolver's Do It For The Kids and Slither, Joss Stone's I Had a Dream, Mariah Carey's We Belong Together, and three songs each from UB40 and The Stereophonics.

The four-disc set also will feature highlights from the seven other events staged across the world, along with backstage footage from London, Pink Floyd's rehearsal, short films from The Who and Travis and more. A major portion of proceeds from the sale of the DVDs will be donated to the Band Aid Trust for the relief of poverty in Africa.

Capitol will on Nov. 8 release DVDs of this summer's Live 8 concert to raise awareness of African poverty. The four-disc set features the complete concerts from London and Philadelphia, as well as highlights from seven other shows around the world. EMI will also issue separate single-disc sets with concerts from Paris, Berlin, Rome and Toronto.

"Live 8" will be bolstered by a backstage documentary shot at the London show, the rehearsal for Pink Floyd's one-off reunion, short films featuring the Who and Travis and a segment with Ricky Gervais, star of the U.K. series “The Office.”

"I hope this will be the biggest-selling DVD of all time," says Live 8 organizer Sir Bob Geldof. "It deserves to be. More importantly perhaps, it should be, for it will help us achieve our goal of changing the lives of the extreme poor for the better and making our generation the one that helped end the disgrace of poverty."

Held on July 2, Live 8 featured performances from such A-list music stars as Madonna, R.E.M., Paul McCartney, Sting, Elton John, Coldplay, Stevie Wonder, Destiny's Child, Bon Jovi, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Green Day and Neil Young.
