View Full Version : Reactions to the Season 1 DVD
DainGuy 08-25-2004, 11:39 AM Now that Boy Meets World Season 1 has finally been released, I was wondering what thoughts/reactions people have had to it.
So far, I have watched the Pilot and the commentary for Hair Today, Goon Tomorrow. Here are my opinions:
-It was weird having Matthew Lawrence give commentary for an episode he was not in. I think the reason they had him do it was because he is one of the bigger names from the show. They probably figured that attaching his name to the Season 1 DVD would sell more copies.
-One reason that "Boy Meets World" is such a great show is the way they can teach a lesson without it ruining the episode. In contrast, shows like "Full House" and "Step By Step" like to stop the plot, play the sappy music, and then preach their lesson.
-When the show began, the stars were Cory and his family and Feeny. I think that the Shawn and Topanga characters grew because many people found them interesting (and Rider Strong and Danielle Fishel were able to make their characters compelling/funny/fun to watch).
Those are some of my opinions. For those who have bought Season 1 on DVD, what observations do you have?

I felt bad for Matthew Lawrence cause he didn't say much, what was there really for him to contribute? :(
Yeah like Michael Jacobs said Danielle was so great, she WAS Topanga.
I thought the commentaries were excellent. I learned alot of stuff I never knew before. I never noticed that almost everyone wore hoods on their shirts in the first season
All in all the DVD rocks, so does the bonus episode :D
Adamantium 08-25-2004, 04:36 PM I enjoyed the commentary.
All that Minkus got me remembering. When BMW was new, Lee Norris was the biggest name on the show, for me. I was a big fan of "The Torkelsons" (which was mentioned in the commentary) and I was upset when he didn't return for season 2.
I like how the cast really seem to like the show they did. Rider addressed why he had a sister for just one episode. They all seem like the kid of people I'd like to hang out with. Even though I never will.
It was great having the original music. Even Danielle commented on the opening. She said how she watches the show on The Disney Channel. Somehow, I never pictured any of the cast members watching the show.
DVD Review = A+

swedeace 08-25-2004, 09:41 PM I just came home about 30 minutes ago with my Boy Meets World Season 1 DVD set!! Woohoo!!! I'm excited!! As soon as Who's the Boss? is over, I am going to pop in the first disc to begin watching it! :D
I was surprised to see it at WalMart. It was $32.99. People here were saying it was about $50. Where did you buy yours for that price? That's way pricey....
Anyway, can't wait till everyone here gets their DVD set!!
G-Force Glockstar 08-26-2004, 07:28 AM I really need it!! I hope I get it really soon!
bmwobsessor 08-26-2004, 10:18 AM -When the show began, the stars were Cory and his family and Feeny.
rider strong was always part of the cast, fromt he beginning
DainGuy 08-27-2004, 10:28 AM I know that Rider Strong was always part of the cast. I was just pointing out that his role seemed to expand after the first season.
bmwobsessor 08-27-2004, 10:39 AM oh. yeah i guess but he was still pretty important at the beginning, he was cory's best friend... i always thought he was more important than morgan and alan + amy...
Raisingdad2004 08-27-2004, 10:57 AM They got TV's Best Friends award that year! :)
DainGuy 08-27-2004, 11:48 AM http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105958/awards
They actually won TV's favorite friends award in Season 7.

Rider mentioned in the commentaries that Cory was originally going to have two best friends, but it didn't work out.
Also, I can't remember what Michael Jacobs said exactly in the commentaries(word for word), but he basically said that Rider was so good the role just got bigger :D

Exactly. And if you watch the pilot, Cory does have two best friends that seem to have equal roles. In my opinion, it is clear that Rider was simply a much better actor than the other guy.

Yep Rider said the episode "Boy Meets Girl" in Season 1 was the first he had more than two lines :)
Superstar 08-27-2004, 02:44 PM yeah, the other guy just diseappeared as well
gOoSe 08-28-2004, 08:23 PM "Cory's Alternative Friends" has a few actors in it that went onto something a little better...
with the 2000 KCA i wonder if kids REALLY wanted them to win or if nickelodeon gave it to them because they were ending, The cast of BMW were a big part of the KCAs and Nickelodeon around the time of season 3-5.. hey, Ben Savage got pied on the 1994 KCA! LOL
i actually think Matthew Lawrence did commentary because he showed up early, If you notice in one commentary they mention he's "standing by the glass" or something, like he's waiting
EmoJoe 08-28-2004, 09:04 PM :woohoo: I got the DVD at Barnes and Nobles, I didnt watch it yet though

That's Danielle Fishel and Rider Strong's favorite episode to make! :)
But I've never seen that episode. But I will soon when I get the DVD.

I didn't like Cory's Allternate Friends episode. 'It's a wonderful night' is my favorite season 1 episode. :)

EmoJoe 08-30-2004, 06:27 PM My friend said that hes might get a DVD with the complete series of BMW on it- are they actually selling it?
gOoSe 08-30-2004, 06:43 PM people are selling illegal copies on ebay. and unless they got it from BV's hard copies (which i doubt) they are tv quality and probably edited.
but im just assuming that's what he may mean. Personally, i prefer paying $40 for each set, since it's really high quality.

Someone was selling them not on ebay, but they had a website for it, but it's illegal, and they got in ALOT of trouble from Buena Vista, plus unless they are from the original run on ABC they're edited
spunkygirl 09-01-2004, 09:35 PM The things that amaze me about the DVD is the picture and sound quality are amazing for Season 1 being 11 years old :)
Chad22 09-03-2004, 12:36 AM I Finaly got to watch mine today, And i must say it is probably my favorite TV DVD In my collection.
The commentaries are Hilarious and also made me notice alot of things i've never noticed before, The quality is nothing short of amazing, And The Bonus episode from Season 4 made things even better.

Really? Well, I can't hear very well on TV so I have to have Closed Caption on, but do you think I'll be able to hear their voices clearly?
On the WTB DVD, I can hear almost every word clearly.

Yeah, DVDs usually have a closed captioning option. :)
I did not know you couldn't hear voices clearly? :(

 The quality is amazing, and I would say the sound is crystal clear, same with my WTB DVD, both have better quality than on tv :D
Moonlit_Suburb 09-03-2004, 10:28 PM Oy, I still don't have my copy of BMW: S1 yet, and I'm getting very jealous reading everyone's rave reviews. :p I'll probably pick it up at Wal-Mart this week for a cheap $32.99. I loved this show back in the TGIF days, but haven't watched it much since. (even tho my sister watches it religiously on Disney Channel and ABC Fam) It'll be cool to see the episodes uncut, and the commentaires sound like fun.
I hear Season 2 is coming in November? That's crazy...lol. (in a good way) I wonder if Disney will stick to this 3 month release schedule with BMW? That's quick...I wish more companies were that fast with shows I like. (unlike Columbia which can take a whole year to relase another season of a show)

It's a definite must buy IMO :D
Raisingdad2004 09-04-2004, 02:19 PM Must buy , I live in the UK , paid $44.99 for it , and got hit with a $14 Import/Export charge , and yet it was still worth it!

It's alot easier here because you don't have to hear people, you only read what they say.

That's not very nice of people judging you because of such a thing. :( You seem very nice, and you will come across people who will befriend you because of your nice and sweet qualities and personality. *hugs* :)
I have a German friend who is 80% deaf since he was 10 years old, and he has learned to sign and has to read lips to understand what we are saying in English. He also had problems with friends when he was younger. :(
I agree with it being easier to read exactly what people write here and online, in general. ;)
