View Full Version : Your Favorite Not-So-Famous I Love Lucy Moment
Petrie Malone 08-14-2004, 07:04 PM Everyone loves Lucy's Vitameatavegamin routine, the chocolate factory scene, and the grapestomping wrestling match, but now I want to know your favorite not-so-famous, less recognized I Love Lucy moment. Mine, for example, is when Lucy dressed up as Carmen Miranda and was lipsinging to the record when the record started skipping! The first time I saw that I was practically rofl!!! :rotflmao: What's yours?
Kurt
Vita_Girl 08-14-2004, 10:38 PM WOW good question...well really there atre so many wonderful UNNOTICED moments it is hard to just name one but I would have to say .... in the episode "first stop" when they are spending the night and when the train passes through the bed how un level it is and the bunk beds not to mention the tooth paste just how Lucille Desi Viv. and William act it makes the scene so halarious!
~Vita_Girl~
Larry Surrell 08-15-2004, 09:54 AM As Vita_Girl said, there are so many it's hard to pick just one. One of my favorites is Lucy's antics on the bus tour of the stars' homes.
This scene only "works" the first time you see it, but I remember that time when I first saw the ep where Little Ricky gets the puppy and the tenants complain so Fred tells them he has to get rid of it. Ricky and Lucy agree that "the one who sees him first" next morning will be the one to tell him the dog has to go. Ricky wakes up, looks at Lucy's bed where she is still sleeping with the blankets pulled over her. He fixes his pillows and blankets to make it look like he is still in bed, then he sneaks into the walk-in closet to get dressed. Then Lucy peers out from another room already dressed.
savy333 08-19-2004, 09:55 PM I have so many, here's a few:
I love the scene were Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel do everything to the beat of little Ricky's drum! OMG this is hysterical!
That episode where they are adjusting the tv for like ten minutes and everytime someone fixes something it gets out of focus and mass chaos ensues! I think this is the episode with Ricky on the radio.
Also, in the Comedy hour episode, I love the "high speed chase" where Ethel and Fred try and beat everyone else to the claim's office and use some nasty tactics! This is like the funniest 20 minutes of tv I have ever seen!
I also love how during the Diet episode Lucy tries to act like one of those younger girl and bares her middrift and tries to dance (unsuccessfully)
LucyCompanyPhan 01-16-2005, 01:34 AM I love when Lucy is on the run away lawn mower and then when she comes back she is discribing her story to Ethel. We didn't have to see it, but its amazing to picture her doing.
Lucille Ball could just simply discribe something and it was funny, like another example was when Lucy is explaining to Ethel how the cars ended up switched while she was driving.
Another favorite of mine is when Lucy pretends to be a chair.
NostalgiaAce777 01-16-2005, 10:41 PM I Loved Lucy as the bull. That was funny. Ethel goes "For one the bull is full of Lucy"
When they are in Italy and going up all those stairs and they're all pooped out by the time they get to their rooms and Fred goes there is a bunch of pidgeons roosting on the ledge and Ethel goes "those aren't pidgeons, they're angels"
When Lucy milks the cow that was hilarious.
Lucy Gets in Pictures" Don't you wanna see me die?"
Don't temp me.
When Ethel and Lucy rehearse Friendship.
Lucy goes to Scotland...I loved everything about the episode. Here are some excerpts.
Ricky: You got a matta prita face
Lucy" I got a matta Pretty face?
Ricky: My name is Scotty McTavish McDoogle MCCardo
Lucy: You're Scotch?
"My name is Lucy" (she looked so cute there)
Fred and Ethel as the Dragon
and last but not least Lucy meets the Queen where she tries tomake that palace guard laugh with all her antics.
Kazza 01-17-2005, 12:07 PM When Ricky is reciting Little Red Riding Hood in both English and Spanish!
I actually have a few favorites:
1) Lucy confronting Madame X thinking that she is Ethel.
2) The Florida road trip with Elsa Lanchester. Laugh out loud riot! Especially the scene where they on the side of the road where Lucy kicks a tire a la Ricky!
3) yes, lord, Little Ricky's incessant drumming.
4) The little play that Lucy and the women put together- only to be taken apart piece by piece at the end. I loved the singing buildup to that scene.
5) The Bonus Bucks episode
LucyCompanyPhan 01-21-2005, 08:21 PM I would like to add the episode when Ethel, Lucy and Fred make a cowboy movie and then it some how ends up backwards. Its so funny!
Frischman_Fan 01-23-2005, 12:54 PM My favorite part is when the Ricardos and the Mertz's went camping and Lucy(as usual) had come up with a sceme that made Ethel climb up a tree in the woods. Then Lucy is all asking her"How'd you get up there?" and Ethel gives her this serious face and is all "It wasn't easy!!" LOL!! Just the look on Ethel's face had me :happyface
ricardo/mertz 01-26-2005, 05:32 PM The Indian Show in season two. When Lucy takes that other lady's place and Ricky starts singing not realizing it is Lucy yet. The look on his face when Lucy starts singing. Then a little later in the song ricky sings "Come here"
And Lucy Relplies AAAHHHHHAHHHHH UUUUHHHHUUHHH!
To the tune of the song they are singing. that cracks me up everytime.
And the Florida roadtrip when Ethel realizes that woman has a hatchet. Her face when she stops and says "HATCHET"
Ethel has some priceless looks!
desilu #1 01-30-2005, 01:11 AM I would say the one moment that sticks out to me that I can watch over and over again is the episode "Lucy raises Tulips". When she is out of control on the lawn mower and as she passes by the window when Ethel is on the phone..."Ethelllllllll"! That cracks me up everytime!
LucyCompanyPhan 01-30-2005, 02:03 AM I would say the one moment that sticks out to me that I can watch over and over again is the episode "Lucy raises Tulips". When she is out of control on the lawn mower and as she passes by the window when Ethel is on the phone..."Ethelllllllll"! That cracks me up everytime!
Thats one of my favorite episodes. And when Ethel is on the phone and shes talking to the guy and shes like "she just passed your store?" I love when Lucy comes back and she is describing to ethel about where she was and she says "Ive seen parts of Connecticut I never knew existed" I love that line. Even though you don't exactly see what happened to Lucy, it was just incredible imagining it all from the way Lucy told the story.
cablejockey 01-30-2005, 12:53 PM I remember where Lucy has to dress up as the witch and Ethel gets to be the good fairy in Little Ricky's play--Lucy was perfect flying across the stage.
Lucy and Ethel are trying to buy lingerie at a cheaper price when Fred and Ricky think they are fooling around with the salesman--Fred thinking the guy is nuts if he is carrying on with Ethel.
Gidget 01-30-2005, 08:00 PM Or how about that time when Lucy n Ricky wanted to buy a car and Ethel was yelling out the door for Fred, not realizing he was already there and almost caused him to go deaf.
Or what about Lucy and Ethel as "Women from Mars"
I could go on and on like the Energizer Bunny, but that's enough for openers. :D
*Lucy Performs “Ragtime Cowboy Joe” with the twins.
*Ricky opens “A Little Bit Of Cuba”. Fred and Ethel don’t like the way they’re treated, so they split the store and open “A Big Hunk of America”. LMAO! I also love the pie fight at the end.
savy333 02-09-2005, 06:21 PM I love when Lucy and Ethel see the ad for a Charm School in the newspaper and Ethel says "You think they can make a glamour girl out of me?" and then Lucy says "Sure, it says right here we work miracles!"
And I love any Ethel/Fred fighting. Like when they are at the courthouse and Ethel tries to show a little skin by pulling up her skirt. Then Fred says "What are you trying to do? Get us sent to Alcatraz?" LOL
cablejockey 02-10-2005, 09:19 AM That reminds me of when Lucy lived in Connecticut, and all the women were jealous when someone's neice had all the men dancing attendance on her at the country club{the neice was played by Barbara Eden}. Lucy Ethel and Betty Ramsey, made themselves over to look sexier. Lucy had a dress on that was so tight she had to stand up all evening.
I Love Lucy Too 03-13-2005, 03:50 PM It has to be the one where they live in the country and her and Ricky are dancing and she has all those eggs in her shirt. Then when Ethel gets hit by the door and Fred says Ethel do have eggs too and she said I did.......
But it hard to choose there are so many funny moments.....
I Love Lucy Too 03-13-2005, 03:56 PM I once taped the hour long Lucy Comedy Hour SHow where they have the chase in the desert and my daughter would sit they for days and just watch the chase seen.
Deanna 88 03-18-2005, 11:54 PM Mine is from "The Young Fans" when Lucy and Ricky pretend to be really old. I laugh hysterically when Ricky says, "Keep jiggling, Peggy. Please keep jiggling!" And then when Arthur mentions something about Lucy's hair and she says, "Do you like my hair? Well here, you can have it," and she rips off her wig and hands it to him! :D
That's my favorite episode, too.
KristaLovesLucyJAtoo 03-22-2005, 01:04 AM OMG!!!!!!! There are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO many!!!!
Ricky: Yeah, Jerry I'm trying to see if I can fly out.
Lucy:Yeah, you'll make it Peter Pan!
When Lucy takes the place of the ukelele player in Little Ricky's band....I believe that is Little Ricky gets Stage Fright?
Lucy- I kissed Bill Holden!
ummmm....
When Lucy and Ricky are handcuffed together and he has to sing Santiago, Chile
AND
my two absolute favorite not so famous Lucy moments are....
Angela- I guess I've been monopolizing Ricky ever since you got here! What must you think?
Lucy- Would you REALLY like to know?
When Lucy and Ethel are on the tour bus looking at movie stars homes and the driver gets fed up with Lucy and he puts the mic towards her so everyone hears....
Lucy- ....and I hear that she wears nothing but black lace lingere....WHAT ARE YOU DOING????
OMG!!!! She is soooo funny!!!! :D
GeorgiaboyJeff! 05-31-2005, 08:39 PM The episode Lucy had a trophy stuck on her head was funny to me!! :D
eltonfan80 05-31-2005, 09:03 PM I would like to add the episode when Ethel, Lucy and Fred make a cowboy movie and then it some how ends up backwards. Its so funny!
i agree i thought that was so funny
Coffeecup 07-04-2005, 06:41 PM A few good funny lines in the Episode where Lucy and Ethel raise money to go to Europe. Ethel pulls out the winning ticket and holds the money.. Mr Feldman: "Mrs Mertz and Mrs Richardo worked so hard on the raising the money you think they were keeping the money for theirselves. . Ladies I have good news. I have Mrs Dorthea Goldberg, President of the Ladies Oversea Aid." Lucy standing on the side with the district attorney. Mrs Goldberg reaches for the money. Lucy said to Ethel "give her the money". Ethel says "Is she going with us."
ricardo/mertz 07-05-2005, 01:37 AM That is a very funny Ethel moment. I think Ethel is the queen of facial expressions.
savy333 07-05-2005, 04:11 AM This, I thought, was the funniest thing of all time:
Ethel and Lucy are in the front seat with their travelling companion on their way to Florida...
Hatchet Murderess: You're right, you don't take up any more room then one.
Lucy: Oh, it's quite roomy actually. Isn't it Ethel?
Ethel: Oh, roomy isn't the word for it. In fact, the word for it is cramped!
The way Vivian Vance says that line is priceless! Ethel is the best character!
gidgetgrape 07-06-2005, 02:47 AM Oh wow I have a bunch especially from the second season! I LOVE in The Inferiority Complex when the doctor dances with Lucy and Ricky gets jealous. I like when Lucy tells Ricky it's apart of the treatment.
I LOVE when Lucy's pregnant and she wants Ethel to be in an act with her. She says we can be a couple and Ethel says "A Couple of What?"
The dialogue between Ethel and Lucy when Lucy comes home after wearing the black wig.
TV Girl 06 07-12-2005, 03:36 PM i love the episode where they're living in the country and they get the baby chicks. and lucy wanted to take them out of the boxes so they could have room to move around. then after a while she trys to get them back in the boxes and pretends to be like a mama chicken and does the movements and sounds so they can follow her back.
i also love the episode where lucy tries to get into sculpting (sp?) and she tries to convince ricky that she has the talent of doing it. and while he's gone she tries different things and they don't work out and she decides to sculpt her whole head and has to stay still so everyone thinks it's real.
Brieannas21 07-12-2005, 04:03 PM My favorite episode, was when they all were driving to California and they stopped at this gas station and they had to stay there over night. And when they were in that motel room and Ethel was helping Fred settle in for bed and she had to tuck is night shirt in the mattress, that cracks me up all the time. Also when they are all asleep and a cat meows and Lucy tells Ricky that the baby was crying ((Lucy and Ricky were in bunk beds, and Ricky was on the top bunk)) and Ricky get out of bed and he falls on to the floor. LMAO
Also when they were driving to California, they were pulled over for speeding and they had to spend a day in jail. And they all try to saw Lucy out of jail with files.
Adamantium 08-10-2005, 07:15 PM My favorite episode that I think deserves to be there with all the popular classics, is the episode where the Ricardos and Mertzes are on a plane coming home from Europe. Lucy thinks that babies fly for free, so she takes a 25 pound hunk of cheese and dresses it up like a baby. It was a hilarious episode. Once Lucy realizes that babies don't fly free, she wakes Ethel up. Ethel: "What are we gonna do?" Lucy: "We're gonna eat it!"
I loved the woman's reaction sitting next to Lucy when Lucy took the "babie's" bottle and started drinking it, in order to make it look like the baby was drinking it. Lady: "What are doing?" Lucy: "He doesn't like to drink alone."
MrWalters 08-12-2005, 10:53 AM My favorite not-so-famous moment is from the fourth season. It's in "Ricky Needs an Agent." It's Ricky's blowup after Lucy has gotten him fired off his contract. Ricky breaking things in that scene's very funny.
Edward
Dizzy Arnizzy 08-12-2005, 02:52 PM I love the scene in "Home Movies" where they show how Lucy edited her home movie. And the scene where Lucy, Ricky & Fred are right behind Ethel in "Ethel's Home Town." They do some pretty hilarious stuff, especially Fred with those trees.
Kazza 08-12-2005, 04:42 PM Hey there! Edward and Josh!!!
Dizzy4Arnaz (Karen) here :waves:
Dizzy Arnizzy 08-14-2005, 12:18 AM Hey there! Edward and Josh!!!
Dizzy4Arnaz (Karen) here :waves:
Hi Karen & Edward! I didn't know you two came here. :)
Brian Damage 08-20-2005, 07:07 PM For some reason, I always liked when the foursome sung, "California Here I Come."
Moondance 08-31-2005, 05:01 PM My favorite would have to be with the twins and the amatuer show where they do, "Rag Time Cowboy"! I love that! I love his the kid's pet frog leaps out and lands on the back of Lucy's neck and she goes that dance!!! HAHA! Ricky gets out the conga drum and it's just awesome and FUNNY!
My favorite quotes:
"I'm hungry, I'm hungry, I'm hungry!" *kick*
"I WANT COOKIES AND MILK!"
"Let's play, 'Here We Go Round The Maypole'."
LOL!!!!!!!!!
And at the end where Lucy kisses Ricky and her mustashe comes off!
TheLandfordLunchBox 09-12-2005, 09:56 PM Posted By Savy333 also love how during the Diet episode Lucy tries to act like one of those younger girl and bares her middrift and tries to dance (unsuccessfully)
One of my faves Lucy looks so funny in that scene :happyface

Angelique 2 09-27-2005, 12:25 AM I love the lawnmower scene in Lucy Raise Tulips too and Ehel's part in it too.
Where Lucy and Ethel are changing a tire in Off To Florida
The Scene in Ricky and Fred are T.V. Fans and Lucy and Ethel are in the police station with Sargent Nelson
In Equal Rights when Lucy and Ethel are washing the dishes and realize they have no money to get home on since Ricky and Ferd left them there and don't know the guys plan to pick them up so they call home and tell the boys the place is being held up the way they act it out is so funny. Also when the boys came seeing they had been set up pretened they were the robbers and Ethel drops a stack full of dishe and Lucy dosen't see the yet.
In First Stop when they are staying in that motel where the trains keep going by and Ethel put Fred to be and Ricky and Lucy stare in amazment the look on Ethe'ls face is priceless only Vivan goo do that.Lucy to Ethel You do that everynight?Ethel to Lucy Yeah but it took years of practice!
I am sure I will think of more.
LucyLucyLucy55 09-27-2005, 08:39 AM The best is the "Hollywood" episode when Lucy is up in Cornel Wilde's room and tries to lower herself down to the Ricardo's apartment. Ethel is trying to keep Ricky busy talking so he won't notice what's going on. It's one of Ethel's best scenes ever. Some of the dialogue can't be heard because the audience is laughing so hard.
NostalgiaAce777 11-13-2005, 12:41 AM I thought of a couple more:
Lucy meets Ricky's mom, she doesn't know a lick of english and Lucy doesn't know too much Spanish.
Lucy: Como!!!![thinking it means come here, and motions with finger]
Lucy: How does he say that[chicken and rice], Rice you know [deddedede]
MrsRicardo: Arroz con Pollo!!!
Lucy:Yeah!!!....well that's what we're having
even though it is LDCH
Lucy and Tallulah
Tallulah finds out the jam she had was strawberries and Lucy yells "Suprise!"
with a very pleased look on her face.
From Lucy gets homesick
Fred:Hey honeybunch, there is a flock of pidgeons outside our window
Ethel:Those aren't pidgeons, they're angels!
The TrainRobbery
Conductor: Madame, did you stop this train by pulling that chord?
Lucy: well I didn't do it by dragging my foot!
Lucy tells the truth, when the girls put her on the spot at their bridge club.
The Indian Show:
Lucy is reading the book ethel sneaks in on her and lucy jumps, then the doorbell rings and Lucy screams.
The Black Eye:
When Lucy reads aloud she gets really into it, then Fred and ethel are jumping to conclusions.
The New Neighbors
Lucy is convinced the new neighbors are criminals and she is in their apt posing as furniture.
I don't remember what episode this is from, but Lucy is trying to make Ricky jealous so she looks up on of her old boyfriends that owns a dress shop and she finds out or thinks he is bald and short and doesn't want Ricky to know, when she sees Ricky coming to the store she quickly starts acting like a mannequin and ends up pulling the male mannequin apart and dances with his torso. "he isn't half the man he used to be!"
leroykevin 12-31-2005, 12:11 AM The one with Fernando Lamas.
Ricky: Lucy wants me to be yelous (Jealous)
Fernando: YELOUS?
(Ricky says it in spainish)
Fernando: Oh... YELOUS!
maybe not the exact wording But I hope you get the idea
Madame X 09-23-2006, 12:15 PM All the moments mentioned are classic. I laughed just reading them! One moment I really like in particular is not comical. It is at the very end of "Lucy is Enciente" at the end of the song "We're Havin' a Baby" where Ricky cuddles and kisses Lucy. She is teary and at the end she looks down as a shy response. That is so touching and real. You can see they are in love. The picture is on the back of the season 2, disc 2 DVD case. Watch Lucy during the entire song and you will see something real.
TV Knowledge Fan 09-23-2006, 04:16 PM ....when they were filming "We're Having A Baby", somehow Lucy and Desi got caught up in the fact that they WERE going to have a baby in real life, and were in real tears of joy as the song ended. At that point, director William Asher stopped the filming, and insisted the song be performed again, this time with a more "upbeat" finish from Lucy and "Ricky" at the end. However, all involved agreed that the first version was the "better" take (and couldn't possibly be "improved"), and that's the one everyone saw that Monday evening in December 1952....and continues to see to this day.
:tv:
TV DVD Fan 09-28-2006, 04:54 PM All the moments mentioned are classic. I laughed just reading them! One moment I really like in particular is not comical. That is, quite frankly, the most touching scene of any show in the history of television that I have ever seen.
One of my favorite lines in the show's history came from Fred---
Mr. Potter- Ethel was big back in Albequerque.
Fred- Ethel's big anywhere!
Another great one---
Ricky- Don't make fun of my English!
Lucy- That's English?
comedyfreak 10-10-2006, 09:42 AM My favorite was the tango routine while Lucy had those eggs in her shirt and the eggs got broken when Ricky pulls her in closely to him.
These are all great! One of my Ricky favorites is when he forgot their anniversary and he's on the phone trying to get a copy of their marriage license and the person obviously can't understand his full name.
Ricky: Acha... Acha... Thank you but I'm not sneezing... Well, it's not funny to me!"
I also love the beginning of Lucy's Italian Movie when they're all squeezed together and Fred ends up in their lap. The producer of the movie says to Lucy, "Have you ever considered acting?" Fred, Ethel and Ricky together: "Has she ever considered acting?!?"
Tap Dancer 08-23-2010, 02:01 PM I'd never be able to remember all of my favorite moments - each episode has so many great ones! :) Some of the best ones have already been mentioned here, so I won't repeat them again.
I really like the episode where they're in Florida and bet to see who can catch the biggest fish. I especially love the end when Ricky goes overboard and as he's climbing back into the boat, Ethel asks, "Are you wet?" Ethel was always my favorite!
"Ethel Mae Potter, we never forgot her."
When Lucy has a horrible sunburn and she's in the Don Loper fashion show. The way she hobbles around in front of everyone is really funny.
Lucy, Ricky, and Bob Hope singing, "Nobody Loves the Ump."
Coffeecup 08-26-2010, 04:58 PM Another episode I like is the "Lucy tells the Truth". The scene at Caroline Appleby's house is funny. Lucy admitting to the girls what she thinks of them. Caroline "you cheat. I would have said something but I was your partner, How about getting a new deck of cards, you had this same deck since I known you.
I also like Lucy plays wolf. Lucy on the ledge and the scene where they know she is outside. The 3 some talk about what they would like of Lucys At the end "Fred I was tied up, Ricky there were two men. Ethel listen". Poor lucy. The whole episode was good.
Lucyeth's 10-26-2010, 05:13 PM Here are a few (not so noted) Lucy favorites -
- Lucy acting as if she was a seal when Ethel asks how she was after locking her in the trunk; The Passports
- Lucy (and later Ricky) fighting with Madame X, both believing her to be Ethel. I love Ricky's tumble while trying to tackle Madame X; Too Many Crooks
- Fred cracking Ethel's eggs in her back pant's pockets; Lucy Does the Tango
- Fred and Ethel being covered with food over and over before finally wearing raincoats on the train while they try to eat; The Great Train Robbery
LucilleBallfan 10-26-2010, 08:48 PM - When Lucy and Ricky pretend to be REALLY old, so that Peggy and Arthur will leave them alone. The Young Fans
- When Fred asks "Who's JoAnne?" like 4 times and nobody answers him and Ethel asks "Who's JoAnne?" once and Lucy answers her right away. Then Fred says, "Now, what was I doin' wrong?" The Diet
- Whenever Lucy or Ricky holds the toaster @ an angle towards one another and the toast pops out and they catch it.
- When Lucy and Ethel try to UN-SELL the "Aunt Matha's Old Fasioned Salad Dressing. The Million $$ Idea
- When Lucille Ball and Harpo Marx do their little skit when in Hollywood. Lucy and Harpo Marx
- When Lucy and Ricky are in the kitchen and all their actions are to the beat of Little Ricky's drum. Little Ricky learns to play the Drum
- When Lucy, Ethel and the lady in the car, are driving to Florida. She offers Lucy and Ethel, Watercress sandwiches. When Lucy complains about her sandwich and says it tastes like buttered grass. Ethel starts to take it away from her and Lucy says "I love buttered grass!" *cracks me up* Off to Florida
- (Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour) When Ricky and Ernie Kovacs make Lucy do all that stuff, pretending that they dont know it's Lucy and not Krandall, but they DO know it's Lucy. Lucy meets the
Mustache
- And, i LOVE when Fred and Ethel insult each other.
