View Full Version : Cheap Celebrity Tippers

I came across this site where servers in restaurants relay their stories about cheap celebrity tippers. Who knows if it's all true, but it's fun. There are also stories about generous star tippers too.

Ahhh, that's disgusting. God, I'm 15 and I type 20% if the waitress is pretty good, more if they're great, and 15 if they're awful. I would never not tip anyone.

what is so sickening about people optionally not paying extra money?

Exactly!... It's not as if they are not getting paid!... Why not tip doctors, nurses, cops, cashiers, etc.?

Browsing the site (The ENTIRE website), it amazes me that the people I'm a fan of...are the better tippers/more friendly of the bunch, by and large.

Restaurant's frequently pay below minimum wage of the area the restaurant is in (I do believe some states have passed minimum wages higher than those of the federal minimum)

No tips means that the people waiting on you, if left un-tipped, wind up making around 60% of the minimum wage of an area

Besides, if they go out of their way to bring you refills without you having to ask for them or something like that, then they deserve a tip. I hate waiters/waitresses that disappear and my drink is empty.

 I know. What if they just did a mediocre job, do you still have to add an extra $7,927?

Agreed.

Story Warning.

You've Been Warned.

...Of course, having one disappear is better than not having one at all. I was at [unnamed Restaurant], and after being seated, waited almost fifteen minutes just for SOMEONE to come to the table. If the restaurant had been packed to the ceiling, I could understand...REALLY, I could. But, there was practically no one there at the time, so waiting THAT long just for someone to come and ask what you want to drink is downright inexcusable. Finally, the manager all but drags her to the table (I was almost ready to walk out at this point), and I get my drink ordered (I, at this point, go ahead and order my food, since I know what I want, to save time). She wasn't prepared to have me order both at the same time, and throws a fit. (If I wasn't as hungry as I was, I WOULD have left). she takes the order, storms off. No drink refills. Nothing. At least she didn't attempt to smash the plate against the table when she brought the food... Finally, eat, and leave. No tip. It's the only time in my LIFE I've NEVER tipped a waiter/waitress (and I'm the type who almost never tips LESS than 20%, and it's usually at least 25%)

If they do a mediocre job, you give them a mediocre tip...IF they do a horrendous job (like in the story I just told), you leave nothing/next to nothing. Great job, great tip.

But, as long as they're not an ass about it, it's generally wise to at least tip SOMETHING.

..........I see you've never worked in a restaurant. Don't say something about the restaurant business unless you've worked in it yourself. I haven't, but I had relatives (including my own immediate family) that did, for many years. They've come home complaining quite a few times about some of the nasty customers they had to deal with. None of the others you listed accept tips, because that's bribing.

Besides - they get minimum wage or less. Believe me, I know.

You waited longer than I would have!

One time I was at a restaurant that had all of 4 people in it, and we never got a waitress. How she couldn't notice us...we were sitting out in the open! We walk out and she says thank you to us. My mom made some snide comment and we left.

Well, every other place where I was was either fast food, or packed to the eyeballs (This place was a little outside the main center of town, hence why it wasn't packed yet. The place was about 2/3 full by the time I was outta there [they started coming in right around the time I FINALLY placed my order)

And fast food wasn't an option, considering every time I eat it, my stomach's acting up within the hour. Besides, 1 good meal has almost 900 calories. If I want to put that many calories in my stomach at once, I at LEAST to do it with GOOD food

well, my sisters a server and they only make like 3 bucks an hour so most of their pay relys on tips...plus they have to put up with miserable people all day!

It would be against the law if their tips and their hourly pay did not in the end at least equal out to minimum wage so I don't know what anybody is worrying about. I'm not a fan of tipping. I can understand restaurants.. but stupid things like pizza delivery is ridiculous. I already pay the extra delivery fee so I'm not giving anymore than the extra change from the bill. Lots of restaurants around here already add in the "courtesy." Maybe the restaurant owners should grow a soul and pay their workers like they're supposed to. I've never seen my parents leave more than 3 dollars (with a bill of about 20 dollars [we dont eat at expensive places]). Maybe we're cheap, but we have to live too. And that's if the person was good. If they were bad (which is often the case) then nothing. Why should I have to pay for their employer's shortcomings even through bad service? Oh and I also find the idea of tipping somebody after they cut my hair to be absurd!

Half of that is a load of crap, you don't know what is true and whats lies. A Britney Spears one says she was with Paris and Nicky Hilton a year ago in some hick state. Paris said she just recently met Britney Spears.

Whether a person has worked in the restaurant business or not is irrelevent. Waiters and waitresses have that job because they wanted it. They know what the situation is going in. If they don't like the way the payscale is-go get another job. Do good and get a tip. Do bad and don't. And yes you are going to come across some tightwads even if you are the greatest waiter in the world. It's all part of the business. And if my doctor cures me of a deadly disease and I decide to give him $100.00 for my gratitude, that is not bribery.

By your own logic you should not even be commenting on this subject. Just because your family has worked in the business doesn't mean you should "say something" about it.

thats hardly true...yes people work in restaurants because they want to but rarely do any of them want to serve...in fact, my sister resquested to be the hostess where she works, because she barely makes anything beinng a waitress

btw...i'd like to see you try to work as a waiter/waitress for one day and put up w/ the nasty ignorant people, bust your ass so the winers get their food before 20 minutes, and then make no tip

I always give a waitress/bartenders a big tip (more than 20%) because I know how hard it is working in the restuarant industry; I used to be a bartender, and busted my ass off more than once, so I know how hard they work...
