SawgrassSteve 07-24-2004, 11:06 AM I was barely a todler when it started, and I was just starting first grade when it ended production, but I remember it well. Steve Lolac 07-24-2004, 01:37 PM I remember it. My parents watched it every week and for the longest time, I thought Alan Brady was a real person! Lolac  algebra74 07-24-2004, 01:57 PM I discovered this show in 2002. Carrie 07-24-2004, 02:45 PM I discovered TDVDS when it started its run on Nick@Nite. Petrie Malone 07-24-2004, 04:08 PM I discovered this show during the week last summer TV Land was airing TDVDS every evening in honor of the animated Alan Brady Show. Even though, the Alan Brady Show wasn't very good, TDVDS got a new fan! jehobden 07-24-2004, 05:17 PM I was born 2 1/2 weeks before the fifth season began filming w/ Coast to Coast Big Mouth, so I'm too young to remember the primetime or CBS daytime runs. I most likely first remember seeing the show in local syndicated reruns. I'm sure I remember the opening credits w/ Rob falling over the Ottoman as a youngster, and I noticed that MTM, who had her own sitcom by this time, which I DO remember seeing in primetime on Sat. nights, was a cast member. I didn't get a real appreciation for DVD until I bought the books that relate to his show and read about its behind-the-scenes development. I've always seen it as more of a show for adults, and I've gotten to enjoy it more as I've gotten older. Now I have the whole series on DVD, so I guess you could say I've become a pretty big fan, though I probably wouldn't have bought the DVD collection w/o all the extras that each set has. jehobden 07-24-2004, 05:58 PM I was born 2 1/2 weeks before the fifth season began filming w/ Coast to Coast Big Mouth, so I'm too young to remember the primetime or CBS daytime runs. Larry Surrell 07-24-2004, 07:15 PM The Dick Van Dyke Show is one of my earliest memories of television. I was born in 1957 and have been a life long fan of the show. calvertfan 07-25-2004, 08:44 AM I'm a fan as of this year :o I've always liked Dick van Dyke so when I saw he had a show and it was on tv, of course I had to watch it! They don't show much old tv here at all - only on one community station "for oldies" and stuff never stays on long. I think the Dick van Dyke show ran for about 5 weeks and that's all but luckily after 3 I'd decided I liked it and I went and bought seasons 1 and 2 on DVD straight away :D vanilla_waif 07-25-2004, 09:27 PM My friend introduced DVD and MTM to me (on Nick@Nite) when we were in jr high back in the early 90s and I've been hooked ever since. jamier42 07-25-2004, 10:20 PM I started watching it on Nick at Night and I also am watching it on TV Land so I have been watching it since it was on Nick at Night then moving to TV Land. I love this show it is one of my all time favorite shows. treky 07-26-2004, 03:31 AM Originally posted by jamier42 I started watching it on Nick at Night and I also am watching it on TV Land so I have been watching it since it was on Nick at Night then moving to TV Land. That was another sitcom that he did in the early 70s, for which he once again teamed up with Carl Reiner (who wasn't in the cast this time). It was similar to "The Dick Van Dyke Show" in that he was married and in show buisness, but this time he was a local talk show host (later they moved and he became an actor in a soap opera) and instead of a son, he had a daughter the same age as Richie & an older son who was away at college. In fact, there was one episode (maybe more) that was a "rehash" of the "TDVDS" episode "Father of the Year" -the one where Rob is named "father of the year" at Richies school-which was a "rehash" of part of the plot of the unaired pilot for "TDVDS". algebra74 07-26-2004, 01:45 PM Does anyone know if this show is on anywhere? I read somewhere that it is on the Goodlife Network, but I don't have that station. From the previews on Season Five, it looked very interesting. jamier42 07-26-2004, 02:35 PM Hey Treky, No I have not seen The New Dick Van Dyke Show but I have heard of it though. I would like to see it though too. JudgeGarth 07-26-2004, 05:56 PM 'The New Dick Van Dyke Show' is on Goodlife TV on Sunday nights. They show two episodes. mstewart 07-26-2004, 09:13 PM Originally posted by treky just wondering: have you ever seen "The New Dick Van Dyke Show"? I got to see the New Dick Van Dyke Show when it was originally ran. I thought it was a good show. It was ahead of its times. I thought the Arizona cast was excellent together. I did not like it when they relocated to Hollywood and whole new cast. It seems as though the cast did not jelled well together compared to the Arizona cast. Hope Lange was underwritten for her part. Her part on the show was what the original show was planning for Laura Petrie at first until they saw Mary's potential and she unofficially became the lead actress much to Rose Marie's dismay. Hope Lange did not look happy in that role. treky 07-27-2004, 12:59 AM if she didn't look happy in the role, it's because she wasn't. She went into the show thinking her role would be more like Laura Petrie. Samme 07-27-2004, 01:18 AM I remember the show during its original run but I didn't really watch it. I liked it but maybe it just on too late or was too adult for me to try to watch it more. But when I was about twelve I started watching the daytime reruns and loved it right away. I sorta think hormones started kicking in too because I thought Laura Petrie was just the most appealing woman I'd ever seen. It just struck me more and more the more I watched. But I did think DVD was great too, the show was great, and I haven't been able to stop watching since. I remember "The New Dick Van Dyke Show" was sorta a disappointment to me. (Although I'd love to see it now.) I thought it was gonna be great. But even the opening was bland. Dick was great but the supporting cast seemed a weak copy of the original show. But I loved the show when it switched to Hollywood and was sad to see it go off. It had Barry Gordon from "A Thousand Clowns" as an adult and I think Carl Reiner started taking much more of a hand in it and I liked it much better. But, unlike the original show, I think we'd all have different opinions on this one. And, I could just never get over Dick having a different wife than Mary. It just never seemed quite right. And I know that's wrong, but... SawgrassSteve 07-27-2004, 11:44 AM Originally posted by Samme ...I thought Laura Petrie was just the most appealing woman I'd ever seen.
