I was wondering has TV LAND turned a 60 min Variety Show of Flip Wilson into a 30 min show so that it could fit in a 30 min timeslot? If that's true then the pickup was pointless. Can you imagine all the footage we are missing.

They Did the same thing with the Carol Burnett Show and The Sonny And Cher Comedy Hour when it used to air there. When N@N aired Rowan And Martin's Laugh-In in the 1980's it also was only in a 30 minute format. Alot is cut out.

I do not watch the Flip Wilson either; first I have very episode on tape, and I am disgusted with TV Land's inferior editing, and having the audacity to shorten a classic show like Flip Wilson Show from an hour to just less than 30 minutes...

Its to bad but thats the only way its going to be shown on tv. For some strange reason, Variety shows don't do well in syndication. Maybe it will come to DVD soon and uncut.

Me too; I find it hard to believe that those Western Shows are still popular!..It does not make any sense at all; honestly I just think that the Program Director at Tv Land is a huge Western Fan..

well, some people, like me, LOVE the westurns!!!

If anything, we should be wondering, why the HELL does UPN show "The King of Queens" so much? It's a good show, but not THAT good!!!

Bonanza and Gunsmoke are on TV Land? I thought The Hallmark Channel had exclusive cable rights for those shows. Or are you talking about TV Land showing them in the past?

Hallmark airs the lost episodes of Bonanza. TV Land airs the other package. Gunsmoke is not on Hallmark, only on TV Land. Though, the earlier seasons package is on the Starz! Westerns channel.

As for why variety shows are 30 minutes in syndication, and not the full 60 minutes, it's because of the music rights. TV Land didn't do, that is how all variety shows are syndicated. Carol Burnett & Friends aired the same way on USA Network.

Thanks for clearing that up. I do not get TV Land and I only get The Hallmark Channel for half the day so I am not up to speed on what the channels are airing.

What location/cable system do you have? I'd hate not having a channel or having one only part of the day.

TRIO airs all of the hour episodes of Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In complete and unedited and including musical numbers.

The Carol Burnett Show has ALWAYS been 30 minutes in syndication and has been since the late 70's,it has aired on local stations and TBS and WGN. When they were on The Family Channel in the mid 90's,they edited out cuss words. I don't know why they focus on the 1972-1977 years instead of all of the years, like why they never show the episodes between 1967 and 1972 and the episodes with Dick Van Dyke especially the episode where The Family was playing Password. Surely there are comedy sketches from those eras.

As for The Flip Wilson Show,it was one of the first shows on TV Land when it premiered in 1996 as were Sonny and Cher. I have seen both shows at a cousin's house and they included musical numbers in each episode.

The Carol Burnett Show,Laugh-In,The Flip Wilson Show, and Sonny and Cher are all on DVD but you have to pay a pretty penny to own the DVD's.

And they also would cut down (and most of the time cut out entirely, like they, sadly, still do:angryfire :angryfire her question-and-answer segments with the audience.:crybaby: )
