I saw that CBS started airing the show in June of 79 after being on hiatus from Jan of 79. I thought when a show is cancelled, there is no series finale. Unless it was already planned that the 78-79 season was the last

Another example of this is Hangin' with Mr. Cooper. ABC canceled it in 1996 and aired the few remaining episodes in the summer of 1997.

If it had been canceled in January they wouldn't have had a full seasons worth of episodes or a series finale.
