View Full Version : Movies you thought were going to be great, yet was disapointed in (no sequels)
Dean Winchester 07-16-2004, 04:29 PM what movies were you really looking forward to seeing, and then after you did, were "this was what I wanted to see?"
Offhand, I remember thinking Divine Secrets Of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood was going to be GREAT. I love chick flicks with all star casts, and with the likes of Sandra Bullock, Ashley Judd and Maggie Smith, I was expecting a great movie, yet the movie was very disapointing
HuntingtonM15 07-16-2004, 04:33 PM Bridget Jones's Diary. I know so many people LOVE this movie and I was expecting great things from it. I ended up being disappointed and bored.
MeMyselfAndI 07-16-2004, 04:39 PM The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. During the movie I questioned my sanity, and thought I needed my head examined for viewing such garbage. Strange, due to my love of horror movies.

which version? the 1974 or last years? I know a lot of people who love one and hate the other. A lot of the 74 fans I know hated the remake, and a lot of the remake fans thought the original was too campy

Ditto to that- for the new remake. Utterly horrible.
I am Him 07-16-2004, 08:05 PM I was disapointed that there was never a sequel to Flash Gordon.
folfreak25 07-16-2004, 09:52 PM I am so gonna get killed by someone. But all of my friends are obsessed with the Lord Of The Rings, and I didn't see it untill like, three nights ago. And I personally couldn't see why it was such a great movie? Don't get me wrong, it was slightly entertaining. But I'm not gonna rent the 2nd and 3rd movies.
Sorry, my personal opinion.

I feel the same way. I cannot stand them.
SBTB Geek 07-17-2004, 12:32 AM Despite a few laughs, I didn't find "Napoleon Dynamite" quite enjoyable. Everyone I went with LOVED it, but I could of waited for the DVD, or even the TV airing.
Nighthawk76 07-17-2004, 01:44 AM The Terminal. Is it just me or have Steven Spielberg's films been getting worse and worse over the past five years? The Terminal was just plane lifeless and dull. In a recent interview Spielberg said that there are many filmmakers of his generation that don't have the touch any longer and should consider retireing. I think he should include himself in this statement.

I agree. I don't personally like many sci-fi and fantasy films. I don't mind films about time travel, but many other fantasy and sci-fi films just bore me. I would mention that I like films about E.T.s and afterlife stuff, too, but I don't consider them sci-fi. I believe E.T.s exist. I don't think I'll even rent the first Lord of the Rings film. I'm just not interested in seeing it.
Superstar 07-17-2004, 05:24 AM I was disappointed in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, I knew it wouldn't be great but I tohught it would be better than it was
G-Force Glockstar 07-17-2004, 01:26 PM 13 going on to 30
and probably a few others....
MeMyselfAndI 07-17-2004, 02:40 PM BuffySlayer79 - It was the new remake which I hated. I can recall watching the original for the first time, and being so shocked by it’s edgy rawness.
Just my own humble opinion, and personal taste. I’m sure a lot of people viewing the updated version, for the very first time will think it, highly enjoyable. I’ve yet to see ‘Dawn Of The Dead’ remake. So I’m looking forward to how it compares with the original. Funnily enough, I watched the original on television a few weeks ago, and thought it dated.:)
Kaffeine Kay - Hehe, superb signature.:)
I am Him 07-17-2004, 02:46 PM I misunderstood the question. I thought the thread was asking which film do I wish had a sequel.
As far as the question of which film I thought was going to be good, but was disappointed in goes, I would say Gladiator and Pearl Harbor.
Sitcomwriter 07-19-2004, 03:31 AM Swingers. I was expecting a great movie but Vince Vaughn totally ruined it for me. His character was so annoying that I could hardly even watch and this is coming from a guy who always says "You're so money you don't even know it"!!!!
G-Force Glockstar 07-19-2004, 07:39 AM Overboad wasn't as great as I thought it would be, but it wsa still alright.

I agree with Superstar, I expected more from Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. I also expected more from Mr. Deeds, The Cat in the Hat, and Down With Love

I mean the movie was ok, but it just wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

Jennifer Garner...the one that played the main charactor.
I like her :)
LucyCompanyPhan 07-20-2004, 10:56 PM Bruce Almighty. I do really like this movie but I was a bit disappointed when I saw it. I'm a huge Jim Carrey fan and I love Jennifer Aniston and the movie was directed and written by the guys behind Liar Liar (my allllll time favorite movie) and it just wasn't as good as I wanted it to me. I liked it, but it wasn't Liar Liar.
Old School. A few people had raved about how great this movie was and so I rented it and it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I laughed once in the entire thing. I think its more of a guy type of movie but even some of my friends love it and I can't stand it at ALL. Thank god Will Ferrell redeemed himself with Elf
Gothika. I was all excited to see this movie and It was sorta scary (when you see it at night in an empty theater) the ending was horrible. I really liked it up to the ending, but it was just crap because of how bad the ending was.
The Cat in the Hat. I wasn't expecting the best movie in the world, but I thought, okay, Mike Myers can be funny sometimes and maybe it will have some good comedy like Jim Carrey's The Grinch. Nope, this movie sucks.
Austin Powers in Goldmember. and I know you said no sequels, but you shouldn't consider this a sequel because its just like the James Bond movies and those aren't sequels, but whatever I'm saying this movie sucks. Okay, I guess I'm not a huge Mike Myer's fan but I did really like the first two austin power flicks and everything I loved about the original wasn't in the third one. He wasn't the sexy/cool 70s guy anymore. It turned into lets make Austin as stupid as possible and bring in the worst villian in history. I mean, eating your own skin isn't funny. Just awful.

SBTB Geek 07-21-2004, 12:42 AM OMG, how can you guys not like "Old School"?!... That movie is classic.

Well, I personally was bored throughout 90% of it. I thought the humor was dull and not funny. The only good thing about the movie for me was the few scenes with Leah Remini.
Castaway. I think I was expecting too much from it. I went in thinking I was going to love it but I just thought it was OK.
*MIBabe03* 07-21-2004, 09:10 AM Twister, and Supernova. Supernova really sucked.
Penny Lane 07-21-2004, 01:18 PM Pleasantville. It was nothing like I thought it would be!:(

A classmate had told me it was great so I had hyped it up to be fantastic. Rodolfo the ferret was one of the only things that always got me to laugh.....
-*Forever*- 07-21-2004, 03:26 PM Memento is one that stands out in my mind. Possibly cos I just saw it two days ago.
I know there's more, I just can't think of them.

Aw, I love that movie! I saw it last year but I just watched it the other night when I had my Tobey Maguire-athon.
Of the recent Summer flicks, "Van Helsing" wasn't so great.

nah sorry I just didn't find it funny at all like it was said. It was full of stupid idiots, it wasn't believable. I was just thinking anyone who liked this movie should grow up. just terrible.

Yeah that movie was pretty bad. At the end where you see her face in the clouds, all I could think of was the scene in Lion King where Mustafa shows up in the clouds.
I'd also like to add The Ring. Everybody hyped this movie up, saying it was scary. I went and saw it with my mom who is afraid of every kind of scary movie, and she wasn't freaked out at all.
AllIWantIsYourClutch 07-22-2004, 10:09 AM XXX. Honestly, I sat there for 2 hours in a movie theater not knowing what the hell was going on.
